I've always thought a game that used the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon basic plot layout could work pretty well with Digimon - the player gets yoinked into the Digital World at the start of the game, converted into data, and turned into a Digitama that hatched into a Baby stage Digimon dependant on the outcome of a brief questionnaire you take in the prologue; you meet and build a team of other, actual Digimon while navigating the world to try to solve whatever the issue was that landed you in the Digital World and try to find a way back home, all while raising your party and learning how to Digivolve yourself. What you end up as depends on your actions and dialogue choices, and so on. The game wouldn't have to be a Shiren-style dungeon crawler like PMD, it would just follow the basic plot skeleton.
