On another note
I wasnt really surprised with Rio being delayed today. I figured if it actually went ahead today it would have been a cluster fuck. No announcements,pics etc, being on a monday and all, holidays and the other drop just didnt make sense. I was thinking maybe they didnt make allot and were being all quiet about it perhaps.

tq: I'd like to see laser light/power this year, some powers of grayskull. Ready for Dinos but suspect thats not happening. Only ladies from CC and pass on togs and any other crossover

I am looking forward to BBTS finally putting my Moduloks and Horde Prime Troopers in my fucking PoL.
Seriously though, ToG Rattlor might be top of the list, with ToG Ninjor just below it.
Mainline Vintage characters, we know about nothing but Rio, but I really hope we see Dragstor and Blast Attack this year. I got a feeling we might see Hurricane Hordak too, but those two are top of the list.
Everything else: Strobo and maybe Plasmar, but I've given my reason why I think he's a long shot. Add Brainbug and those Horde Scorpion fucks.
Also add Stretch Nek, Toxoid, Cham-or and Dart-os, just because I want to start this thread by putting a noose around your necks and reminding you THIS IS NAGA COUNTRY.

Same here. This is the first year I don't want to wishlist a bunch of characters because I know we aren't going to get them. I hope that we at least get some PoP cast and make some progress on finishing Vintage. It would be great to see lost 88 finish, as well as He-Ro and Eldor. Updated NA would be kino. But realistically I know its more cross overs and more snakes.

Split this list between this year and next, (maybe even save the Laser fuckos for the movie anniversary since the toys had heads inspired by the movies) and it works out to the exact same amount of vintage as we got last year, that's if you count the Zoids two pack as the equivalent of the Modulok/Multibot UPC
I honestly think all the movie guys will be saved for 2027 for the anniversary, and might even be retail along with movie versions of the mains plus the ones we never got like Karg. CC will have run its course by then, ThunderCats will be over, so it makes sense.

You want to be really pessimistic? Wish for a vehicle. Bashasaurus or Spydor.
Fuck, I'm starting to doubt we'll ever get Mantisaur.

Just to clarify my stance, it's not that I think we'll get nothing after Two Bad this year. I think we will get more vintage
But, it's that who I think is MOST likely to get those spots are a leader variant (I don't buy those unless they have new extra heads) and a rock (which I've already skipped one of those because I have the same attitude to rocks that you have towards Gwildor and Zoids), so there's nothing to particularly excite me.

Do they have to be extra heads? Cos I think the Laser boys have different enough heads to not be the same old thing since they were based on Dolph and the Langella mask. As for Hurricane Hordak, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an alt head since his counterparts got them. So you should be safe there.

No, that's understandable. Even as a kid, Stonedar was more boring than Rokkon in my eyes, but they were both less impressive toys than Rock Lords.
So I can see your point. I'm lucky that out of the last 12 remaining including the movie guys, only the Zoids will really disappoint me if they come before anything else.

Aren't Masterverse usually 4 per wave? So maybe 4 basics and 2 or 3 deluxe, with one of the deluxe being oversized Goatman.
Hopefully also Goatman in Origins to jump on his hype from his movie appearance. But they will be lazy and just use the Classics head. Which I will be fine with, but I know others won't.

Anyone that had Squeeeze on preorder at BBTS is shit out of luck. Just got an email saying he's cancelled because the supplier is out of stock. Most of you won't care because Serpentphobia is rife in these threads, and I will live because I was just hoping to score another one for a future custom if Stretch Nek gets released. He would have had the neck from Stretch Nek and the arms of Squeeze, and I would have called him Constrict-or. Got some other snake customs planned because I want to beat Axel at his own game just with part swaps.
Also, I shat myself when I saw it was a MOTU cancellation because I thought it was going to be Horde Prime Trooper. Thank fuck it's not.

I keep hearing this rationale and it makes literally zero sense to me.
If I want to buy vintage only, I'm not going to be buying anything not vintage regardless of how you space them out.
If you've got 10 figures left and release them in six months, I'll buy 10 and walk away
If you spread those 10 over 12 months and release a bunch of shit I don't want in between to "stretch it out", I'm still only buying 10 figures and just being annoyed besides.
And the folks that DO want the non-vintage stuff are gonna buy it all anyway and stick around anyway after vintage is done, so you don't need to stretch it out on their account.

Surely the market of NPC minded consumers thatd be like "must consume all product to kill time until vintage finished. Only stop collecting after vintage. Do not buy anything after vintage" like their preprogrammed can't be that big, can it? Because that's the only kind of person I see it being an effective strategy to use on

It's not just about unit sales for individual figures, though that is important to a degree. It's also about customer retention. Regardless of whether you buy Vypor or ToG April, there is a subsection of the customer base that will buy Vypor and ToG April to fill the gap while waiting for the next vintage, but once vintage is over, the majority of them are probably done too. Until then, you are all a customer on Mattel's charts.
Stretching it out means you will be a customer for another 2-3 financial years instead of just one, which is better for profit forecasts (even if they are inaccurate due to the fact that some customers are limiting their purchases to just vintage), which incentivizes investors and keeps the shareholders happy. The line must never go down.
You are only looking at it from your side of the fence. Look at it from the point of view of a Mattel executive that knows for a fact that there will be a mass customer exodus the second that vintage is done. Do you want to blow your load now, or do you want to enjoy the full hour with the $10000ph escort that you hired?

Yes because vintage motu was such a retail powerhouse they had to move it to Mattel Creations only.
Mattel should just do a subscription again. Think of how handy it would be to get shipped a wave every couple months. They could do whatever character they wanted and would put some weight because the idea of "people dropping vintage" because there would be an actual meteric to gauge whose still buying any of this shit.

It happens with every line, it is a natural process of how toy lines go. I think they should've gone made to order instead however as that's less frustrating for collectors, who they have pretty much accepted are their primary audience now with the low run exclusive and online strategy.

I'm pretty sure the 100,000,000 cases of wave 7 at retail that stopped retailers from ordering any future waves was a contributing factor in that decision. This way they could better control production numbers, which was why some of the earlier MC vintage like Grizzlor had to have an extra made to order run so they could fine tune production numbers.

Honestly, I wouldn't be against this. The international flat rate shipping is too much for a single figure I don't care about, like Geldor. Two figures would make it more palatable. A full wave would have me on board, even if there was a dud in every wave like Geldor.
Of course, you know they would slip an Axel snake in every wave and doom the idea within a year.

Once they moved to make most vintage only available as MC exclusives, it was like when the Mouth of Sauron threw the Frodo's Mithril chainmail at Gandalf.
We got 18 Origins releases last year (not including Cartoon Collection and Turtles of Grayskull) and only 4 were actual vintage figures (plus one vehicle/mount with Night Stalker, and one playset since Eternia shipped), and only one of those wasn't an MC exclusive.
We got two more Lost 88 figs, but they were originally Walmart exclusive nightmares, and even BBTS has been sporadic getting them out to customers. The remaining consisted of 3 Axel snakes (which the majority of anons hate) a Horde Trooper repaint, Geldor and Demo-Man (both MC exclusives) two Stranger Things two packs, and King Grayskull shipped with the Eternia playset. I think that was it.
Also, Jared Leto was cast as Skeletor in the movie, so add that to the list of reasons people think it's fucking dire right now.

Yeah this was madness. We've armchair quarterbacked this to death over the years, but really was a bad play.

Up here in Canada distribution really fucked Motu's chances at a revival. Pretty sure that Wave 1 (excluding maybe He-Man and Skeletor) didn't even ship to leafland, but then we got hammered with endless Clamp Champs and Ram Mans. Getting big fancy Motu displays at Wal Mart filled with nothing but Clamps and $30 Battlecats without a He-Man. Seriously, who dropped the ball on not having a He-Man and Battlecat gift set, reasonably priced to get people into the line. just meant kane was an alt to his masters of the wwe universe version, sorry. just the one new kane with his reverse colors and cape. razor has his full debut purple razor pants and gold vest. he'd switch to alternating between purple trunks and blue trunks afterwards so the full pants was a unique one-off look.

That would make sense. The motu collectors I know irl, none of them had wave 1 and they don't show up locally at nerd stores or on marketplace. There were some who got lucky an found wave 1 He-Man and Skeletor. I remember seeing pictures of US Wal-mrts with walls of those two but it was nothing like that here.

WWEternia was similar issues, we skipped wave 1 completely but after 2 there was spotty availability after that.

Leatherhead is plentiful in some areas if you ask around for someone to grab you one. Shredder isn't out yet. Slash & Splinter have come and gone from Target. Those were discounted out to make way for 2-Bop. Gr'asp was Jul/Aug to find.

The other problem is a legal consideration. Canada stuff MUST display both french and english writing on packaging. Now maybe marvel can throw out the dreaded "international" packaging with six languages on the back Canada's way, but they're not going to bother with niche characters, so we're only getting every third or fourth wave when there's a movie or something. And a tiny company like Super7, they're not fucking around with alternate french language packaging, fuck it, canadian collectors will buy direct if they really need it. So as a casual part time collector, not seeing it in stores means I miss stupid shit like meme prince adam, who I totally would have bought but not for ebay prices.

Modulok's imminent release is pretty much the main thing that has me back now, and my excitement is slowly returning, but I don't think it'll ever be where it was prior to last year. Back then it was "I can't wait to see what the future has in store" and now its more "I can't wait to be finished, you think you could just release last few guys I want so I can go home?" And half of what they are cross selling isn't even readily available to buy. I've had my pre-order in for Grasp and Terroar since the first day on bbts and still haven't got them. Before that they were a US Wal-Mart exclusive. So 50% of what's supposedly for sale, I can't even buy. Weird strategy Mattel. Even people in the right country who gets these exclusives can't find them.
Make these guys available like Viper and Repltix and the Infilarors and repaints the exclusives. the Executives probably won't know or care if they are getting a cool exclusives. Especially if you can't buy them in stores anyways.

NTA, but i'm gonna interject here, because this is how I view it
Of that number of vintage line releases you're talking about, half of those (including 3 of the 4 vintages we got) were locked behind MC where you get a couple hours of a window to buy, or you miss out completely and either don't get it at all or pay scalper rape prices.
Of the options that are (relatively speaking) more widely available and easier to get, where you're not on a hard timer to buy as soon as it goes up, 5 were snakes, and if you don't like them, you get Modulok, a trooper repaint, and a basic bitch He-Man or Skeletor in Stranger Things set

And THAT, hyperbolic or not, is what's fueling the "it's all snakes" mentality. If I want new unique characters, and don't want to deal with MC, my options are limited to almost exclusively Snakes. And this is over a year after Snake year ended.

I can almost guarantee no one would be bitching (or it would be reduced) if you even did something as simple as swapped it so Sy-Klone, Rokkon and Extendar were the BBTS exclusives and Reptilax, Vypor and Necro-Conda were the MC exclusives.

And the Snake Lair debacle didn't help matters either

I can understand many anons concerns, but all that most of them ever do is complain about snakes but offer no alternatives.

Now as much as you guys complain about MC, let me tell you my side.
I'm in Australia. Every MC drop is between 2 and 4am local time, usually in the middle of the week. MC has flat rate shipping of 30 dollarydoos, which in Burgerbux is about $20. Which means that if I just want one Rio Blast, I'm up for $60 AU minimum, or $40 US.
I have to get up at 2am in the middle of the week, and hope the fucking captcha doesn't shit itself for 40 minutes like it did when Sy-Klone went up, and then pay the same as the figure costs just in shipping.
Now guess why I didn't bother with Geldor. Yeah, I fucking love MC.

Yeah Im still here though I mostly lurk now. I'm still praying we see Fuerza T before origins dies. Its the one thing I want more than anything else. More than the PoG dinos, more than Gygor, more than any other nostalgia crossovers, I want Fuerza T. The CGI series they teased seems to have died in the water, so if I can just have this I can die happy. Fuerza T deserves better bros.

Incase anyone was curious, I finally managed to score Wundar, Terroar, and Zodac over the christmas break. Unfortunately alot of the ToG figures I wanted now seem impossible to find without paying scalper taxes. I've also yet to get Slamurai or Gr'asp. Debating on whether or not I should grab vanilla Rattlor orToG Rattlor these days too. Fwiw I was really looking forward to the street sharks line but none of them ever came into stock in my nearby stores and by the time I was willing to buy them off the net prices had tripled or they'ed gone out of stock.

I hear that. After my initial hype over the set existing died off, it just kinda dawned on me that even if we get more, they're totally only gonna use the subline to put out new versions of He-Man, Skeletor, Teela , etc. rather than any new characters. Mainly because virtually all options require massive new tooling, and to this day I can literally only think of ONE example in all Origins of a figure that is both not from vintage and has almost zero reuse, the Skeleton Warrior.
So besides variants, I think the only shots we might have is the skier since they can just stick a new head on the beast Man/Grizzlor body and give him his skis, and the witch since they can a bunch of basic lady parts like toon She-Ra skirt, the new "naked" lady torso with a "shirt piece" armor, if Shadow Weaver really gets made, her forearms, etc. But even those two I'm not exactly optimistic. And I'm gonna veer on the side of caution and not expect a single OC concept Horde like Wrap Trap, Dylamug or the brain.

I hope you get Fuerza T, though bro.

I have no nostalgic connection to Fuerza T whatsoever, but I would buy the shit out of the weirdo monsters like Carnivor and Destructor. They would fit in with the weirdo Lost 88 Snakes, and although I'm the outspoken unapologetic Snakefag, at the end of the day, I'm in it for all the weirdo monsters. I'd probably even get Tekno because he looks awesome.
The crazy thing about Mattel not doing them is that there is barely any work required to get them happening. Certainly less work than RotS. Just some paint masks and bam. Easy money.

ToG Rattlor looks way cooler. The nerfing of vanilla Rattlor was a crime, and he is probably the least impressive snake other than his repaints from the snake 4 pack, but at least they are supposed to be generic grunts. I've got a feeling if they ever do a CC Horde Rattlor, the Origins one will be demoted to generic grunt as well.

The appearance of Brainbug in a recent minicomic gives me a sliver of hope, and I still feel like the tooling of Mammoth Chad was also intended for Skiing Yeti as well.

Definitely.
I still consider Photog an unreleased vintage, so he should be on the list with the remaining Lost 88 and PoG. Cy-chop and Draegoman are cool designs. Laserlot might be the weakest, but he still feels like an actual MOTU character unlike Spector. I'd even take some of the runners up from the competition Grayskullman won.

I am very biased on the subject of Fuerza T. It's ties to MOTU and Argentina reserves it a special place in my heart. However even divorcing the line from that context, the characters are perfect. Every single one still manages to inspire a child like awe in me despite being such simple recolored part swaps. They really would fit in well with the 88'ers too. The way I see it Fuerza T is the true end of vintage MOTU. Which makes Mattel's quiet refusal to acknowledge them all the sadder and more disappointing.

TOG Rattlor does look really cool. He ended up reminding me more of the toybiz ghost rider figures than a traditional tmnt mutant, but thats part of his charm. Still there is a simple joy to the vintage origins Rattlor I cant ignore. He looks like a sesame street character in a way. I cant resist that quality about him. CC is starting to tempt me too in all fairness. Clawful and Hordak especially so.

Skiing Yeti would be such an easy sell in the Thundercats line. I'd rather see characters like that over more variants of the Heroic Warriors. (Not that I dislike the one's we've gotten in ToG but still). Imagine people's surprise if Brainbug, Yeti, and Wrap Trap were included in the Thundercats line...

I think there's about four or five mounts Mattel really should remake. The PoG dinos, Mantisaur, Spydor, Gygor, and the Fright Fighter make up my choices. The PoG dinos, Spydor, Gygor, and Mantisaur seem like especially easy sells around the holiday season (what kid would say not to a bunch of giant cyborg dinosaurs and bugs?) but mattel's growing disinterest is plain to see.

Going forward Grayskull-man should just forever take the place of spector in that line up. Memes aside there just isnt anything noteworthy about the character, and he deserves to be forgotten.

Remember how Panthor's box at nearly the beginning of the line had the rhino centaur? And here we are nearly 5 years later without the slightest hint it was anything more than an Easter egg. I think at this point we can safely say art isn't some glimpse into future of planned toys, it's just art. Yeah, they MIGHT make something, Frog Monger got in, but for every Monger, we've got at least a dozen on the pile of undelivered, and there's no reason to view the brainguy any differently than the rhino, or the cyclops, or the witch, or the Obelisk demon, or the Medusa from snake faces comic, etc.

Yeah, ever since an anon did the opening theme song of The Muppet Show but with MOTU figs, I haven't been able to look at him as anything but a Muppet. There is something slightly more Muppet-like about the head sculpt compared to the original vintage.

I've always counted Spydor as a vehicle, but he and Bashasaurus are at the top of my wishlist with Mantisaur. I had Bashasaurus as a kid and it was probably the most fun vehicle I had as a kid. Land Shark was cool, but Bashasaurus bashed shit. The only other vehicles that came close were Spydor and Blaster Hawk, which I got to experience from friends that owned them. I did track down a Spydor in my 20s that might still be at my mother's house if she hasn't sold it.

I'll take your word on that since I don't own Beastie. The torso looked shaggier than Beast Man's when I compared images online. It could just be that the detail seems more defined in brown than orange, but I also questioned if Mattel would really sculpt a second hairy torso.

I still say Khan looks closer to his vintage counterpart than Rattlor's derp head, but they both suffer from having their action feature nerfed. Khan more so because at least Rattlor rattles.

Really? I'm off the exact opposite opinion. Reptilax is the best of the bunch to me because he's not a straight repaint of existing guys like Terroar and Grasp are, and Vypor doesn't gel well with the look of my vintage figures for me to want to include him. I guess he's ok as a standalone in isolation, but you put him next to Hiss, Rattlor and Tung Lashor with their more goofy looks, and he veers too much into realistic looking in the head sculpt that he's no good for me.
Reptilax does it just right.

So I always interpreted Spydor as a living cyborg spider just like mantisaur is a giant cyborg mantis. I still think it would be cool if the vehicles we dont get were turned into new figures, but I can just as easily see that ruffling feathers. I say as much because Bashasaurus would especially lend himself well to that idea given his function. Who could say no to a heroic warrior dinosaur man with a giant mechanical club for an arm?!

Good to hear you are still around. It seems like some of the regulars have changed lately.
You enthusiasm for Fuerza T wore off on me and I hope that Mattel makes at least some of them. I still think that a half blind madman chose some of those repaint colors but they still have a fever dream charm about them. Platino would be a really good MC exclusive. But I'd probably buy a complete set if they made them all.

From a personal collection viewpoint, what won me over about Fuerza T was the heroic team. In most of the many knock off lines, it's hard to get the humans to stand out but FT's are memorable. Titano is probably the least interesting and Tekno and Platino the coolest.

That was also my theory about why MC Trap Jaw got a FF reissue before the toy version, since Randor also got a FF reissue. Wish they would do the same with Whiplash, but with CC Whiplash on the way, I doubt it will happen soon.

I’m a Mattel guy, but I have some insider information I want to share. In 2026, Lego and Mattel will join forces to release a line of Barbie and Masters of the Universe sets.

The Masters of the Universe sets will be based on the upcoming live-action film directed by Travis Knight.

From what I know, Mattel plans to phase out the Mega Construx line over the next two years, gradually releasing fewer products until it's discontinued. The final releases for the Mega sets will be Pokemon-related sets in 2025, after which Lego will take over the license to produce sets starting in 2026.

Mattel has determined that it’s more cost-effective and beneficial to give Lego the rights to produce these sets, similar to how Hasbro has done with their own IPs.

Mattel and Hasbro have also recently collaborated on crossover toys, so this isn’t entirely new. I hope lego leakers who are into lego company will confirm this soon. Or in time.

I really want him. He's Woody and Buzz mixed into one in terms of a cowboy with a bunch of gimmicks. His design with modern articulation looks awesome from the few pics we've seen.

A new headsculpt for starters. I've been a detractor of head reuse for a while. I will generally rank a character with a unique head over one that reuses someone else's in most cases. So I would give her a marginal lead on Golden Rod there.
(and for what its worth, I'd also take Golden Rod over Razz as a toy, but again, NONE of the figures we're discussing are ones that I'm chomping at the bit for. All I was saying to the original guy who included Razz in his list of characters that would be better than Robo Woman is that I'd actualy take RW first, given the choice)

That is the thing that I hate about Goldenrod so much. That head IS Roboto.
The worst thing about the Lost 88 is the lack of new heads. I can sort of tolerate Strobo because of the Zodac/Zodak Cosmic Enforcer retcon, and White Ninjor is fine, but Plasmar is just swarthy Fisto and it's obvious. Terroar is worse, and Gr'asp is only saved by a really nice paint deco. All of the laziest 87 figures like Scareglow and Clamp Champ at least had new heads.

For some of us, the nostalgia is in the toys, otherwise nobody would want Blast Attack or Dragstor. If it invokes that cool toy feeling of the 80s toyline, it's fine by me. I'd rather get Brainbug or Axel's scorp dudes than Melaktha or Ananda just because they were in a cartoon I watched when I was 4. The cartoon got me into MOTU, but once I started getting figures, the cartoon took a backseat to the toys and the minicomics.

So for last figures I predict movie guys, Two-Bad and Stonedar to be normal and Multi-Bot, giants, leader variants and Energy Zoids to be Deluxe.

The grey area are Dragstor and Blast-Attak.

I think if they'll fully recreate their gimmicks or if they will have to include 2 torsos (normal one and gimmicky one) they might be Deluxe. No gimmicks, spinning wheel without pull cord and splittable torso without detonator would be regular.

Not for everyone. I've noticed with every other release some people get them within a week and others wait forever.
I know personally I've never received an MC release I've bought until at least a month later. Frog Monger was the worst. He went on sale in Jan or Feb and I didn't get mine until like May

My idea was to use the Barbarossa custom set set for upgrading Snout Spout, but then to use Snake Armor He-Man's arm witb Fisto's fist on it, bit if I've got to also buy a Mouse Jaw just to get the adaptor piece to make this work, I'll probably not bother buying any of it at all.

Recall someone mentioned wondering why Rotons always fly. I just noticed that Jet Sled ha the same issue. Why make a device that flies in 2 different ways? Well, according to the box, the rocket slet is for the ground combat (it has wheels after all) and jetpack is for flying. And yet everytime I see it's used it's just a flying sled, no one really bothers using it like a oversized jetpack.

At first it kept rejecting my orders because for some damn reason it kept changing my fucking shipping address to my Finnish one instead of my US one and, instead of doing something sane like letting me change it, it immediately just emptied the damn cart, and now on top of claiming I've already reached the limit of 3, I can't even buy any more because they did reserve the fucking money on my account so I don't have enough left to buy any by checking out as a guest instead, either!

I would hope that production is up and that more new people could jump on with the cc stuff. Its certainly easier to collect motu than it was at the beginning, you can just go buy the core figures at msrp barring a few exceptions like scareglow or fisto. Even orko is plentiful.
