Can't be any worse than Target cancelling Steel two months after preorders sold out. I'll still try to get orders in on Amazon and the McFarlane store but I'm feeling alright about risking $75 on a scalper, they seem to always get whole cases of these super rare chases and collector edition variant figs weeks before everyone else, somehow.
Am curious how ordering from Mr. Chang in China goes compared to ordering from Amazon and Target.

It absolutely can be. At least with Target and Amazon and all the rest, they don't charge you until the item ships, meaning if they cancel your order, you're not out the money the figure cost. With Ebay, you pay upfront, a random person at that too. After three months, even if you don't get your item, the seller is under no obligation to refund you, even if it's a pre-order. Even with Ebay's presale policy I wouldn't risk it.

Unfortunately given ebay's rules for preorders, I don't think it's possible that he is following them, as they seem to indicate the seller must list the date the item will be available and that it will be shipped in 40 business days. And we don't even know the estimated release date for this figure yet from McFarlane.

I think the DCMV shelf is DickBats, the new Action Comics reprint, Dark Knight reprint, and frozen George Clooney.

Now that I have a scalper bounty hunter getting a Power Girl for me I think the next thing I want is just a normal female body I can use for Lois Lane. I'd be a bit scared about attaching Milliput to the soft chest material but I'm no Milliput expert. The costume otherwise really does suit Zatanna pretty well since she doesn't always wear fishnets.

Every Zatanna with cloth fishnets is bunched up at the seams, if you're lucky it's only on the back of the legs. Ideally, for the Zatanna figure that no one is making, they'd print the fishnets on instead.

It's fucking abysmal, and the only way to know how bad you've been fucked is to take it out of the box, and some of the older figures were blisters so you couldn't even cut open the bottom and retape it for a full refund. The Alex Ross version had cardboard sides.

If they were printed you'd have the issue of them breaking at the joints, but if they used a grey tone for the legs it wouldn't appear as jarring when the knees bend.

This has been easy money for years, even these botched ass fabric fishnet figures can still sell for over $50 easy. Hell, I had the fever for one and was bidding but backed out when it crossed $86.

You and I might agree that waves of 1940's heroes like the Freedom Fighters and Blackhawks with army builders like Nazi soldiers and officers, effectively creating a GI Joe sub-line for DC, would make sense and be awesome, but there's no Batman involved so it'll never happen.

I can't help but wonder if the mandate for only Batman and other big name characters comes from WB or if it's up to the toy company. I have a feeling it's a WB thing since this is consistent across several past lines, not just DCMV. There is a phenomena where the licensor can "force" the toy company to make certain toys. It's why toy companies can't opt out of supporting a movie unless the licensor allows it. That theory as far as I understand it says that because WB has no DC movies between Aquaman 2 and Superman, they're subbing in some random past movies rather than giving the toy companies a free ride without meddling until Superman.

Well they never put related characters together to help them sell either. Just take the Teen Titans as a example. And, yeah, I'm a casual, so I'm going with 90s/00s animated cast. I don't like those characters equally. I'll never buy Beast Boy by himself and I'm not sure I need another Robin either. But if all five were in a box set, or split across two adjacent waves (and that was communicated beforehand), I would be more inclined to buy them all.

But fucking Toddler does Cyborg and lets us hang. Then he does a Doom Patrol beast Boy. Later a modern Starfire that's also impossible to get. There's probably a Robin that fits with each of them but none that fits with all of them. No Raven at all of course.

And it's like this all over the line. Missing sidekicks, missing arch-enemies, etc. He's relying on _each_ figure to sell itself, a massive enough handicap when distribution isn't a complete shitshow. It's a fucking miracle that he managed to get Booster Gold and Blue Beetle into the same box. But of course only Beetle got a single issue because fuck you.

I'm not entirely convinced it'll skyrocket like that. I've been able to pick up some these "hot" figures for basically retail at toy shows. These are figures I've never seen at retail, saw sell out in minutes at BBTS, etc. Once the really rabid FOMO people play through, there doesn't seem to be much real demand for them.

Not the best example but take the Arkham City Catwoman they did. I know some don't like it because it shares parts with the purple one that had some weird...proportions...but it did sell fast. Anyway, saw it at a toy show for $20, didn't make it back to buy it, kicked my ass over it all year. Next year, same show, same dealer, same shelf even, same $20.

I also plucked a Nolan Catwoman right off a table at a different show for $20. And Starfire at another show. And the Knightfall Batman that "sold out." About the only one I haven't seen is classic WW. But there, I had an extra to get free shipping wherever I ordered it and couldn't sell it on. Oh, sure, it _lists_ for $100+ online but good luck getting $40 in person.

I know a dealer who was really all-in on DC before McFarlane got the license and he won't touch the line. As cool as the hot figures are, the rest of the line is colder than ice. He'd lose his shirt in short order.

That said, I won't be surprised if it does skyrocket. Just not convinced that it will.

It sure does seem that way at times though. Generally speaking, TransFormers seem to hold value better in that situation than either Marvel or DC. I think it has to do with face sculpts. If you collect any Marvel or DC line over a long enough time, even the best faces on the older figures start to look a little weird. Robot faces, I don't think we judge them the same, so they don't suffer as heavily from that. Plus the cape stuff seems to improve build-wise while the opposite happens with the robots. The only people that really crap hard on old robots are the nutcases worked up over not having toe tilts or rotating wrists on every single figure because everyone from Bumblebee to Fort Max is an Olympic gymnast in their head canon.

Wow that Power Girl Returns comic is fucking awful. She meets some psychic named Omen who unlocks some bullshit psychic astral travel powers for Power Girl. The whole book takes place in one room with characters having psychic adventures.

This is so weird compared to the Conner and Palmiotti run. It's like reading someone's OC insert with Power Girl being a side character in her own book. Are all modern DC books like this?

Hope none of us get the weird jacket version. Also, she starts wearing the jacket with Superman's symbol all over it before she has the psychic journey where she bonds with the rest of the Super Family so internally it makes no fucking sense that she would arbitrarily start wearing it. This was the strangest, most nonsensical shit I've ever read in a published, supposedly edited book.

DC is out of ideas. The nostalgic fans don't want new adventures, they just want to feel the same as when they read the runs they loved. But fundamentally those feelings can't be reproduced. Those fans are not in the same stage in their lives, and times change.

So the writer is given an impossible task. Rather than try to recreate the past, some choose to go for a different audience, and I think that is the type of book you read there. It's trying to reach manga style readers who want variety in plots Rather than super hero fare.

Not that anon but was she supposed to be dead the whole time? On the first page she says she's dying but then it's never brought up again and she wanders through a bunch of multiverse and astral plane stuff. There were a couple times where I thought the book would get interesting and pull an Inception where she's so used to being dumped in alternate realities that she's fallen into some psychic villain's trap, but then it would immediately go back to sitting on a couch with her girlfriend.

The frustrating part is there are glimmers of interesting ideas but they're clearly not something the writer was intentionally developing. I would totally read a series about Power Girl wandering the bardo through a different multiverse every issue.
