>>11315430But they did. It was re-colored once a bit into the 2012 line, and it was recolored with a few changes for both Bay movies. 4 releases from Playmates, just like the Batcave (Batman Returns, BTAS, Forever, and B&R. Then Mattel and Hasbro both acquired the mold and released it a few times IIRC, but Playmates did 4) just instead of new stickers they added or changed elements (Out of the Shadows had a slide and 2014 had a full tunnel section instead of the computer) Rise got a new mold, which I think was the right choice, but that one had a lot of dead space. I think the 2003 lair is still the best. You have an area for the turtles to train, an area for them to chill, vehicle access, an area for Donnie to work, two platforms with breakaway pieces, and it folds up nicely for storage and transportation. The 80s set is in a close second but I always found it to be a bit cramped.
But I'd like to shout out the pizza box playset from the 2012 line as an underrated budget set. A lot of people hated it at release because it wasn't another fuckhuge set, but I think its a good diorama for displaying the Turtles and their allies or for kids to just play with. And for collectors Turtles of any era look nice posed on it so that's a good bonus if you just want to make things pop on your shelf.
