This might be a bit of a stretch for /toy/, but I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on buying a Ganesha (the Indian deity with an elephant head) statue. I'm looking to get one that's about 8-12 inches tall, sturdy, and will last a long time. I want an actual statue rather than an articulated "action figure" type thing.
I'd prefer to buy something new (buying antique statues, especially from western art dealers, is a good way to get ripped off if you don't know what you're doing). I think I'll probably have to buy something online because my local Hindu community is really small. I'll be in Chicago and Houston later this year. Which probably have better places to buy Hindu sculptures.
What material should I look for? Bronze, stone, resin? I want to put my statue near a window that gets lots of sunlight so I think resin is probably not a good idea. Do any of you guys know good places to buy or have any tips to make sure I buy something good quality and long lasting?
I could also wait until I go to India again to buy something, although I'm not planning to go until 2026 and would prefer to buy something sooner.
