I'm also going by what was said from the horse's (Emmerich's) mouth on G-98 being female, but the argument 'slit = female' doesn't work with animals where both sexes have a cloaca, especially when the males have retractable dicks/hemipenes.
On a similar biological note:
What's everyone's headcanon on the incarnations of Godzilla being sauropsids or synapsids? G-98 is obviously a reptile, and based on the skull of Legendary Godzilla it would appear the Monsterverse Godzilla is likely a sauropsid too (pic related). But G-95's skull has a more synapsid-like design with a singular fenestra behind the eye socket.
