Gave weist articulation and hands to my roodaka, still not satisfied with the hands, but those are the pieces I have for now. The weist turned out great. I'm sure pohatu nuva won't mind his shoulder pads missing.

I've considered moving the /biog/ general and a couple others on some other boards to another imageboard. The problem is a). Very few IBs aren't full of feral spergs or dying themselves, b) The more moves from one site to another, the more users you bleed out, and c) 4channel is full of redditors so the risk of bringing more attention to those sites and getting them shut down for muh wrongthink is high and I don't want to be responsible for that.
Considering that the funding was cut for federal IB psyops recently, we might see an improvement but my fear is that the damage is done.

They're still used occasionally in Technic but appear more often in System sets these days. And ball joints were never big in Technic to begin with outside of constraction, since it's more focused on fixed mechanisms as opposed to the poseability that ball joints offer.

I don't think you understand how toy development works. Most of the season 1 and 2 designs were already concepts in 98 and sculpt manufacturing began in 99.

Hell, the lore was almost finished by 2001, and it included vague concepts for most of the sets that came later on.

Reboots never actually get what made the original popular, and are always just a shallow bootleg of the originals. Transformers is the worst at this, as they just keep rehashing the same handful of characters over and over, instead of innovating like the unicron trillogy.

The problem with bionicle G2 is no one liked the hero factory build system. The panels hiding a shitty stick figure made them all feel cheap. People wanted the raw robotic look of the original bionicle elements with exposed technic holes and the little hydraulic piston details all over them. Not to mention they super simplified the story to make it braindead. The g2 bad guys had generic boring names and the series had zero mystery to it. The most captivating part of og bionicle, even after already knowing the story all these years later, is the mystery and the big reveal that its all inside a giant robot. Easily one of the biggest plot twist reveals of all fiction, partially because they were able to slowly reveal it over years with subtle clues. But lego today wants to treat everyone like toddlers and refuses to do anything subtle or intricate.

This exact thing is what killed the lego worlds game. The multiplayer was restricted to two players only, and lego refused to allow any form of private servers like Minecraft. If they allowed the community some control, it would have exploded. The terrain systems and the way everything works in that game is amazing, but it was strangled by lego's paranoia and killed after being "completed" and abandoned.

Well, for the last couple of years, every august 10th, the fandom pushes a bunch of fan made content, and a lot of it is catching the eye of young kids who are amazed by this new thing they discovered, and then realizing its an old thing with a massive backlog of lore and media, and they are going crazy over it just like the original kids did back in 2001. Lego is the only company that refuses to just remake stuff. Nintendo, hasbro, mattel, they just keep remaking the same reliable toys and games over and over, and it sells, but lego simply refuses to do a remake without way over designing it like the castle and space set the begrudgingly released after decades of begging from fans.

Shitposting and trolling about Transformers aside, Transformers did something Bionicle-like a while back that I thought was neat.
In Transformers, some Transformers are "Headmasters", where their head is actually a separate little guy (organic in mech armor or just a smaller Transformer, depending on the series) that transforms into the larger robot's head for robot mode, and helps drive/guide the larger robot's alternate mode. The idea being that two heads are better than one, and all that. The heads used a universal connection, allowing for characters to switch heads.

When the concept was revisited in a 2016 toyline, they added some lore that the little head guys gave the larger bodies powers, finally giving them an actual reason to switch heads around. The heads were like living, transforming Kanohi.

Kind of a neat idea. Never was one for Headmasters (I'm a Mini-con guy as far as little dudes go), but gimmicky shit like that is always fun to see in toys.
Considering we had the Inika masks and things like Krana, Bionicle did kind of touch on that. Adding a weird transformable aspect would be a cool idea if Lego ever revisited things.

These are 30 Minute Missions, they're modular kits, they have lots of different colors, a couple different themes, but they're made with really high quality tooling, parts fit seamlessly, and ironically, they also have masks that can be swapped out. They're covered in 3mm holes and there are lots of accessory kits to stick whatever to them, these two I made one a tank, and one a jet. They can also transform if you get the correct accessory kits, or you can cover them in guns and swords and all that fun goofy stuff.

Presumably, anyways. So far they have their elemental cores but to my knowledge none of them have explicitly used those powers. Like the Rosan Knight isn't shooting fire out of his hands, or at least lighting his sword on fire. At least not yet. The elemental cores is definitely something they haven't touched on much yet, though they do stress their importance.

As someone who has a ton of them they're honestly overrated. Conceptually cooler than the toy they resulted in. Probably the least reliable of the disc-shooting functions, no "defeat" play feature like prior recolor hordes, very bare frame, unconvincing quadruped mode. I wish they'd leaned into the bug thing a little more. Nidhiki is more or less what I wanted out of them conceptually.

I think it's pretty rad that he has every single bionicle set, darkhunter, combiner and fannon set. As a kid I ate everything up, really. If we don't count Stars, 2009 is the one year I dislike, but then when something happens that reminds me of the time I first saw the preliminary images, the ads and the 2009 website or when I first got Gresh and put him together, I immediately "get" the whole feel/atmosphere and aesthetic of that era the same way I did as a kid. So I understand why I liked 2009 Bionicle at the time. And it's really the case with all waves of Bionicle for me.

As a kid I disliked the limited articulation. I wished you could bend the limbs and move the head the way they were shown on the box art. And the mask falling off easily was also something I disliked.

Idk, I liked them a lot as a kid so I didn't care at the time, but having the exact same build just with different shields and a different colour scheme. I guess.
>Toa Nuva
Same issues as the Toa Mata. Plus I had a love-hate-relationship with the organic looking masks. Pohatu felt like an afterthought too, with that huge thigh gap.
>Rahkshi
Having the same build, I guess. I didn't care about it as a kid because I thought they were cool, and I loved that you could move their heads and bend the knees.
>Toa Metru
I never owned any as a kid, but some friends had them. I felt like I was missing out on something, so that might make me like them more than I would have if I owned them. When handling the ones my friends had, I disliked the limited shoulder articulation (which was tied to the gear function) and the limited neck articulation of the ones with short necks. And in hindsight the waists looked awkward on the taller ones. None of these were deal breakers for me though.

I felt like vamprah came the closest to looking like a bat and antraz not at all, just looked cool. I must agree on chirox and mutran both looking like spindly retards. I dont agree on the launcher considering they were never meant to launch the sphere instead dropping it from above and we have squid launchers which I think are objectively the worst launcher. Pohatus claws have grown on me for sure especially in flying mode and him not having lazy jetpacks was a real neat idea.

It was more honorary because it isn't like Greg represents all of Bionicle, but if some character's design was being canonized for LotR by fans, and they had the chance to get Tolkien's buy-in, would they not jump at that opportunity to involve the author?

Everyone is entirely free to play how they want, including designing characters the way they want to be designed, which is exactly why there are so many MoCs of Tahu and other characters with canon designs, yet people play around with those nonetheless. It seems like you're the one that's having trouble playing around with your own imagination/sandbox if something like these canon contests bother you that much.

Mostly I'm just mad at how those contests fucked aftermarket prices for a while. Like, look at this shit from 2022. For a while this was the going rate for black Metru torsos because the canon Bomonga build uses 5 of them and every autismo under the sun needed to add it to their collection. Prices have since stabilized a bit but these still average $5 a pop when every other color averages a dollar or less even though their availability is about the same.

As ass as the Duckbricks fanon builds are they don't seem to have the same adverse effect on pricing. I attribute this to said contests being "fanon" rather than "canon".

as an aside, do we know who actually made these animations? most, if not all, of these themes cannot have been sourced directly from the files of templars completed projects as the audio quality is significantly higher, and in at least one case (the telescope theme) the theme is missing tracks known to be present in the only publicly available version of the theme (it was included in some promo-disc). additionally some of the cgi renders feature assets from the cancelled pc game by saffire which templar is also known to have been in possession of (tohunga/rahi models, etc.). It's not impossible templar gave audio/art assets to some other company but it seems equally possible they made the animations themselves?

I think some other people have dug into this a little bit too, I should review their findings.

Granted, the Tarakava are the more like mantis shrimp than "lizard like", but all the rahi from the Mata Nui era except one are clear representations of real world animals.
The only exception is the Hikaki, and even then it's a clearly a dragon thing.

He couldn't, the Jetrax is a construct made by Artakha so it does some extra broken shit just by touching it. I imagine when it was designed it didn't specifically need a Toa to operate, and back then Makuta weren't evil as a species.

I believe they're casted from the original parts. The quality is very good, the website says they're made from similar plastic to the originals, so probably a type of ABS. I got a prototype of the movie Kraahkan and I'd even say it's better quality than the original, since it's made of a harder plastic like the 01-02 masks instead of the soft stuff the originals use.

I've bought Socketball. They look and feel pretty nice, although they're noticeably lighter than ABS. They have about the same amount of give as ABS when you squeeze them. Apparently resin is pretty fragile but I haven't had any issues with the ones I've gotten yet. Injection molded ABS is definitely superior but it's more expensive to get into.

But probably because it got in the way of poseability as you can see it in Metru era sets, which was an in-between state of the Mata era and the Inika build. They also tested Bionicle prototypes with kids back then, so their feedback probably had to do with the gear functions being removed.
