At the end of the day most games are just a template, a palette, a theme to loosely build something off of. Like you said most are more interested with interactivity than story. So when you've got people only interested in making a product and capitalizing off of recognizable IP nothing interesting is going to come from that.
I think monster hunter is a good example. Game itself isn't too occupied with storytelling but had an extremely strong art style and plenty of lore. Movie was dogshit because they didn't know or care about that, but I know for a fact that if you gave it to someone who loves and understands the series they could take the basic visuals and themes and make something decent. At the very least an animated short story or something.
If they're this hellbent on digging up existing IPs they should probably just focus on storydriven games that they can just 1:1 convert into a movie. Still artistically bland and uninspired but safer and less likely to produce dogshit
