>>11363385That doesn't dismiss the point, none of it was new per say, and you likely had some knowledge of the show and what happen. If it was September 1984, you just had to catch it on TV and there was no frame of anything like it before. It be like saying you don't understand why Disco was a big deal listening to the music in the 1990s. No shit you don't understand it, you are in a world where you get to hear all of it all at once rather than when it was novel and growing.
>>11363394>G1 characters had character arcs in S1-S2They do, Dinobots, Tracks, Blaster, Cosmos, Red Alert, and others I'm missing, had changes, growth, and call backs of the same level as Season 3.
>a huge chunk of characters simply appeared in the middle of S2 without any explanationNot as many as you think however what help them get more warmly received was they were introduced with the cast rather than replace them. When a kid got to see Hoist and Grapple for the first time it wasn't at the cost of losing Prime, Jazz, Ironhide, ect, they were just new friends to the show. Start of Season 3 you are just following nothing but new bots with only a few such Blaster, Soundwave and the Aerialbots reminding you this was the same show as the first two seasons. Can't even count the Protectobots for how near absent they were in Season 2 only appearing in two episodes one being the awful B.O.T
In their attempt to sell the new toys in this big feature way they basically alienated the old base having nothing that resembled the established brand, comparable to the same errors as New Adventures of He-Man or TMNT The next mutation
