Much like collecting any other CHUG, yes you could go to MP, but even with 3P factored in that simply doesn't exist for a ton of characters...this is even moreso for Bayverse because like 90% of 3P Bayverse stuff is just making Optimus and Bumblebee over and over.

Got me my first Super7 Transformer Bombshell.

Decent articulation compared to the RED line save for the arms due to the shoulders. But his guns have such oversized handles that the can't fit into his hands.

The Action Master partner is kind of lame; would have preferred a mini version of Bombshell's bug form.

I've passed on Legacy Vector Prime a few times now, thinking they'll release a redeco for AotP so I might as well wait- I have seen him on sale a few times though, no guarantee we'll get that with the AotP one. Mainly he'll have an extra stamp on his relic I guess, not sure if they'll do anything with the deco since the Legacy one is already pretty close.

They already reimagined Onyx's mask as his spearhead so they'd probably handwave it by printing an hourglass onto the sword or key he comes with (or just say cybertronian hourglasses are shaped funny). I think the more immediate is if as designed they actually already considered Legacy Vector's accessories as part of that combined super relic thing they were thinking of. Of course they could just gangmold some tiny accessory somewhere and throw it in with a Vector PR.

the original concept had him wielding two clock-hand themed swords, which is where "the blades of time" came from. For whatever reason they decided to start depicting them as... an hourglass.

Challenge of the Gobots is technically considered an alternate universe in the lore now, so there's that.
But anyway I like to think she's there in the background somewhere you don't see them, the same way I like to imagine characters like Tarn and Bulkhead are there. That's one thing I like about G1 having a shitton of characters and people would just appear and disappear episode to episode, it just feels like this huge conflict. More modern shows tend to have smaller casts and I get why, but there's something to be said about the illusion of scope.

I see her as running her own separatist faction of Decepticon deserters. She was was part of a third party group called the Renegades that was led by a warlord named Cy-Kill that was neutral when the civil war broke out and intended to wait out the conflict to destroy whichever side won. Prowl saw the Renegades as a threat and arranged for Megatron to destroy them. Only a handful of Renegades survived and Crasher found out that Prowl orchestrated Cy-Kill and group's destruction so she vows to wipe out both sides.

She's also a big time bad ass, to the point that the DJD, Tarn in particular, fear the living shit out of her and she personally killed Star Sabre.

The later caused one of the Renegades, a young Drift, to reject Crasher and her crusade and him joining the Autobots after Preceptor managed to convince him to reject Crasher's vendetta. As such, Crasher wants Drift dead as much as she wants Prowl.

I want to say that sacrificing a mode on a triple changer is common, but I don't know how much that applies to this guy because really, the centaur mode is kind of just him half transformed if you think about it. Wish the hands could be flipped into hooves or claws or something, I think that would preserve the illusion better.
But otherwise we all know like 90% of people are going to display this guy in centaur mode, it's why you get him.

It makes sense to prioritize the toys for a currently-running piece of media like One or Earthspark, but the problem is that their planning even within these lines is often nonsensical. We didn't need like 6 different toylines for TFOne (none of which you could complete the main 4 characters with I should note), they should've just focused on either the 1-step Cog Changers or the Prime Changers.

It's because Japanese canon micromasters are not very micro at all. They're small compared to everyone else, but everyone else just got insanely big like Star Saber is combiner sized or whatever. So Micromasters ended up basically around Bumblebee sized.

You don't need flipformers and fingerpuppets and onesteps and twistformers or stompformers or a billion other gimmicks that change line by line
Just make one big Optimus and one small Optimus and they can both transform in 3-5 major steps, no fiddly bits, not fake parts. You don't need an Optimus in every size class and gimmick, let alone every other character. Just one flagship and one budget option.
If you look at it, historically, the whole reason all these kids gimmick lines popped up was with the movie, when the designs became so complex it meant the main movie line needed more complex figures. So you needed a line closer to the pre-movie UT in complexity, and we got Fast Action Battlers.
The bigger market the movies bought in also meant pandering to kids who wouldn't be interested in puzzle toys like TFs, so you make basically foolproof figures for them or nontransforming options. But those days are over for now. Bring back the superfluous stuff for big audiences, but yearly you don't need all these gimmick lines
As the media has all been designs show/movie first(with the exception of machinima/netflix) it's only gotten worse.
Just go back to this:The toy designers make designs for the shows. Designs easy to make transformable, with no fake parts. Sturdy, robust figures with some gimmicks that don't take 5 minutes to transform.

Inflation has really fucked up everything here (along with Hasbro greed of course, but I guess they sell well enough to justify it). 20 years ago deluxes were $10 and legends classes were like $5, but wages have been pretty stagnant for the poor or middle class families that make up the majority of people buying toys at retail, or at the very least, the wages have not gone up enough that parents are going to spend fucking 2.5x the money to get an equivalent toy.
If a parent is gonna spend like $50+ it'll be for that big ticket Christmas item and frankly most Voyager/Leader classes look kinda pathetic for that price when you consider what else you can find at the toy aisle.

The toys being bricks wouldn't even be a big deal if they were big solid bricks like a lot of old school toys were. But a lot of the kiddy Transformers are hollow pieces of shit. Would get almost as much enjoyment out of just drawing your own fucking transformer, or making one out of cardboard or something.
I'm waiting to see how much that Cyberworld Scorponok costs but I bet it'll be like $80 or something retarded like that. If it was like $30, even $40 having a big brick of a toy is a nice novelty for a kid sometimes.

It would be one thing if the lack of articulation was because of a focus on some other fun gimmick or play feature, it could even be charming in the same way those older toys are. And now you've got retail chains like Walmart cutting the Generations stuff entirely to make MORE space for this stuff, things aren't looking good. The thing is though, this throws the gauntlet down for another take on G1 because this isn't show, toon, comic, or even hybrid- it's clearly doing it's own stylization like the antenna. Similar to MP-10 but adding toyetic elements like the 5mm holes. I get that it just feels like another G1 Optimus, and for the most part it is, but it complicates things in that it means you'll still have some people unsatisfied.

Cool. That's what the aftermarket is for. You can grab pretty much any Optimus Prime ever created, there's so many of the damn things. When do some of the lesser known characters get a turn at a new toy? How many times do they need to reinvent the wheel with the same five or six characters before anyone else is allowed to finally get an update?

My personal feeling is that they realized that the Japanese market just can't take so many massive TFs. I collect other JP mecha lines , and while MP-10/44 aren't an unheard of size, G1 Optimus is only around medium size for how big G1 characters go in comparison to him. And some of those sizes are basically unheard of for most mecha lines-and the combiners, Omega Supreme, and so on are bigger than almost anything short of jumbo machinders(and those were cheap by design). The Takara design team reworked the MP line because they wanted to make everything they could into MPs- this makes it more viable.
China was pulling off massive MPs when their economy was great for making big, plastic and metal figures, but even that's cooled down in favor of Legends and more stand-alone pieces. Japan has a weak economy- and frankly TF is less popular there than other mecha lines
This, imo, feels like a way to entice Japanese collectors who are interested in transformers, want better quality than the mainline, but don't want to devote space to 2 foot tall Superion or Defensor, because relative to more popular JP mecha, it's waaay too much of a footprint. I think this is less of a case of 3.0/44 doing poorly, and more that Raiden did well enough to keep this size going

A stranglehold so strong that it gets passed down onto the next generation so that they will continue that torch. And also as far as I can see, the early 2000s aren't viewed in a favorable or positive light. Yes, we're getting Armada/Micron Legends toys in Generations but I fear that's the most we're going to get. It's a case of 'hey at least they noticed us' and then they'll forget about it for the next 20 years or so as it goes right back to G1 again.

Don't fret too hard, There was a time us BW kids thought the same thing. BW has always gotten some more love than other parts of the franchise, but I never thought we'd get MPs, or 3P MPs, the way we've gotten.I remember the fat guy who runs the Allspark said BW toys would never be valuable or raise in price, it wouldn't get the same attention G1 got, and while it hasn't been the same degree as G1(and may never be) it's definitely gotten more and more nostalgia attention

that said, the biggest hurdle the UT faces was each series lasting only 1 1/2 years or so. Armada/Energon are connected and Cybertron still has the returning characters even though the show continuity is a can of worms- but since people only had about a year to get attached to a line, it's inherently a smaller market.Changing the line tends to fracture and audience.
It's like G1 and BW both had 3 years of the show, with G1 lasting after that in the toys and comics- the movies had a solid 6 years of comign out every two years, with designs holding for 2 years. But so many other lines are fleeting relatively. I think in part why Prime managed to stay relevant was lasting almost 3 solid years.

Yeah, you're probably right. The upgrade kit for dragon Megs seems kind of mandatory because of his fucked up face. I'll try to pick them up relatively soon. I regret buying the Beast Wars figures, for the most part.

Cheetor, Primal and Rattrap were ass. Rhinox was so bad I bought a T30 Rhinox (and Waspinator) on the aftermarket, so much better. Scorponok had a better third party figure from Transforme Element but there was just no alternative to Terrorsaur, such an awful figure. My Tigertron predictably yellowed too.

The only new BW figures I'd still get knowing what I do now are T-rex Megatron, Tarantulas and Inferno. Those ones are good.

Funnily enough that's exactly why people usually group up those 3 animes into one Unicron Trilogy even if continuity doesn't make sense for the last one, each series is considered by most one season and thus 3 years of UT much like BW was 3 seasons and 3 years. If Cybertron was connected to Armada and Energon then yeah it would've been one continuous story where each 'season' everyone has a different body and new and old characters get introduced and rotated but it never came to be in the end since Gonzo was the first to defy Hasbro's orders and go their own way and they certainly weren't the last either. Also:
Armada Optimus = BWS1 Optimus Primal
Energon Optimus = Transmetal 1 Optimus Primal
Cybertron Optimus = Optimal Optimus
And funnily enough, both Cybertron Optimus and Optimal Optimus did get a toy a few years ago (Cybertron was unfortunately a retool however) while we now have the definitive versions of both Armada Optimus and S1 Optimus Primal in Generations. Energon Optimus and Transmetal 1 Optimus Primal are conspicuously missing and barely mentioned by anybody.

Hasbro already confirmed a while ago that they weren't making Transmetals. TM2 Megatron was the exception. At this point, they're done with Beast Wars for another 20 years - time to go back to making more Optimus Primes and Bumblebees.

To be perfectly honest I just wouldn't have bothered with an incomplete figure. Usually if someone's selling a figure "for parts" it's of a very vintage figure. You're highly unlikely to find anything that recent being sold piecemeal.

Stacks are a little loose as most others have reported with theirs, but no issues besides that and the energy axe/blast effects being a little warped (really hate the plastic Hasbro uses for parts like that across all their lines). But this will only work if they start releasing figures overall more regularly. You're pleasing nobody by taking up "slots" in the MPG line with this stuff because that means both lines will come out at half speed.

Not that I disagree with your point about MP-10 being unavailable, but saying MP-10 is a brick is just wrong. It's 15 years old and it still shits on some of the things coming out now. Mostly it can't do some deep kneeling poses and maybe some more complex poses with his arms if you like doing "command" stances. It's hilarious when Takara always goes out of their way to post MP-10 awkwardly in every photo to make it look like shit compared to modern stuff.

MP-10 can be improved for sure, but it's not hard to understand why it's praised. It really was an outstanding figure for the time it came out and it's a solid figure to this day. It doesn't overcomplicate the transformation and has minimal fauxforming so the experience of transforming him still feels like how he actually transforms in the show (that's one kind of "toon accuracy" that doesn't seem to get appreciation- Optimus never had his legs explode into a dozen panels in the show).
As for the overall look, yeah maybe you could improve the proportions but I never needed the toys to look 100% like the cartoon, and I don't need robots to conform to purely human aesthetics either. I think MP-10 looks cool on his own even if he's not toon accurate.

This is bait, but I'll bite. I imported MP10 from HLJ when it released. I back into collecting TF when Galaxy Force was airing in Japan and imported some of those figures too. People were calling him Munky Arms prime among other things on messages boards. Also Emgo is notoriously over positive unless the figure is just a plain dog turd.

Ironhide and Red Alert are starting to hit saturation. Everything else is still impossible to find. Sounds like you got lucky and simply went hunting on the day everything dropped. I guarantee no Aerialbots or Constructions are there. It took me two weeks to find some. Even Devastation Op is selling

Well, theyre never gonna be Japanese import level lol m, but seems like theyre woking on it. The plastic quality and density on this Air Raid is really nice. The entire figure has more nylon in the blend. Makes the CW feel more like Styrene. Also I actually cant find a single flaw in the paintjob. Wow! Only took 40 years.
Speak of 40 years, how were combiner limbs distributed in the 80s? By this I mean did they have their own case assortment? Combiners should be their own series and retro packaging. Im tired of sifting through all the bullshit for the good stuff.

Same nice plastic as Air Raid. Same sub-par articulation. Seems they decided 90 degrees is it for everything. Also I did not realize he lacked a waist joint. His proportions are pretty wonky. His shoulders are too big and sit too low. Also I feel like his knees should have been green. Despite my complaints I feel like they did a much better job of giving us actual stand alone figures. The concessions you make in your head for the fact they are a limb are not very severe here. His sculpt is very nice and the colors are great too. Finally “shrinkflation”; yes they are smaller than in the past but I do actually feel there is an extra $10 worth of toy here vs. a deluxe

Not me. I can't get behind the new combiners, them basically just plugging onto a ready-made frame seems kinda dull and defeats the point of a combiner. Also Slingshot's jet mode looks legitimately awful.
That said, as far as Computron goes that one 3P one by Craftsman Toys looks like it might replace my UW. It's a bit smaller (looks to be a touch larger than the old Energon combiners) but I'm kinda OK with that, and the reviews for Nosecone have been solid so far.

For all its faults I still like CW Devy for the size and it's probably the most scale accurate as far as that goes. I think having CW Devy for combined mode + the SS86 as individual bots works pretty well. Until we actually invent size shifting tech there's never going to be a perfect version.

That's what I meant by peak generations commander. Generations engineering is simpler, more accessible, and makes a quality product.

Ss86 Optimus is just borderline masterpiece Junior. They might not be fun to transform but it's hard not to get excited about the genius of it all.

Ive seen a few trolls here who never purchased either complain, but that's just trolling or 3p shilling.

The main reason to chose between one or the other, IMO, is which one do you like the LOOK of. Do you want a top notch super robot Optimus? Well, your option is Armada or ster convoy later this year.

Do you want a great Optimus that visually fits in with the rest of the generations or ss86 line? Get ss86 prime

Yes, get him. He's one of the best Commanders, and as someone with no real attachment to G1 Optimus' design, one of the best looking Primes out there as well. His joints are sturdy, his transformations are both pretty satisfying, and his trailer actually does something this time around. He should be a no-brainer.

Yes, I think so. Though I love G1 optimus, I just wasn’t sure how to feel about SS86. The oversized backpack kibble, and limited articulation compared to commanders of a larger size felt difficult to ignore on such a small and expensive toy. The trailer battle station that inflates the price also just isn’t as fun as armada’s battle suit trailer, though I have to admit, commander armada prime’s battle station mode is pretty awful. Both of armada prime’s other alt modes are fun to mess around with though, and they’ve filled the core bot with some extra joints to make up for the lack of waste swivel. That, combined with its size, just makes for a more satisfying commander.

That's entirely a matter of personal taste. I always thought G1 Optimus looked like a weak noodle, not someone I'd view as the leader of what's essentially a rebel faction. Armada Prime is built like a brick house, even in his non-Super form. He looks the part of a strong leader in my eyes, and like I said, he has a pretty satisfying, if simple, transformation scheme akin to Laser Prime's, plus the Super Mode transformation. Unlike the original toy, his Super Mode 'pants' actually have some good articulation to them and look fairly proportionate this time around, so it's a major plus; he can also store his big blaster either on the roof of the trailer or inside the gap in the front, so he's actually armed in alt mode. Whether you see these as good enough reasons to get him or not is, again, up to you.

Those wrist guns are pretty strong - they're basically the same thing as BW Primal's wrist guns (by the way, Armada Prime is voiced by Chalk as well). The wrist guns attach to the big gun for his Super Mode's weapon, plus he has a built-in rocket launchers on his Super Mode's backpack. Trust me - he's got more than enough firepower.

And the Legacy Armada Prime is just an amazing figure of the guy and I seriously doubt we'll get a better one any time soon.
The original toy of Armada Prime toy is really cool too but it's more a gimmick figure (which was a lot of Armada stuff since that was just the style of the time). Legacy Armada Prime is just a solid ass figure. There's one third party alternative from FansHobby and it instead looks like ass- it's not a bad figure or anything but the way they stylized it just makes it look worse. One of the few times mainline put something out something that not only is better in almost every way than a third party, but they accomplished it at less than half the price.
My only real problem with it is that if you want his nemesis for him to fight, I think the Armada Megs/Galvy is kind of a meh figure.

Commander Class is the most consistently good size class. I think the closest to a miss is Rodimus, and it's not so much that he's a bad figure as it is it felt like they made a really good Leader class then threw in a bunch of stupid shit to upgrade the price point. That and his face sculpt looks like he's seen way too much shit, really hope the SS86 of him will be a slight retool so he doesn't look like he's 65 years old.

IMO the combiner commanders are rough spots on an otherwise solid size class.
Motormaster feels really lacking in a lot of areas but he looks good at least.
Silverbolt looks terrible, and as do the constructicon duo. Definitely a skip year for commanders.

I think Motormaster is pretty cool, making his trailer the combiner frame at least makes sense with the guy, but they clearly did not give a fuck about that alt mode because holy shit that looks bad lol. I really don't believe this was the best they could do. I don't really know what they could've done with Silverbolt honestly. I guess it's neat that they tried to do SOMETHING with that combiner kibble, and admittedly I can't really come up with anything better than "big booster for the plane".

My only "complaint" (if you can even call it that) is that the transformation is so complex I almost never feel like doing it. But that's not because it's a bad transformation- it still wows me every time I do it. It just takes too damn long and I know I prefer to display him in bot mode anyway.
The only thing I can imagine from this new MPGenerations line if they made another Gun Megatron is if they emphasized ease of flipping him back and forth, which I'm all for as an alternative, but it's hard to imagine accomplishing that without it looking silly because that's just the nature of Gun Megatron. Either you do some engineering magic or he ends up with hilariously bad kibble and noodle legs etc. But I seriously doubt if this new line pans out they'd make Gun Megatron, they'd do the tank for sure.

I'm sure I'll get shit for saying this, but paint for paint's sake is really overrated in this community sometimes. I always see people creaming themselves over some MP style figures where they paint the thing head to toe with like grey paint on top of grey plastic or whatever and it just makes me scratch my head. I'm not talking like metallic colors or whatever that can only be achieved via paint, but painting those flat dull colors with a flat finish on top that achieves a look that's almost indistinguishable from if you just sprayed some matte coating on plastic or something. At least with the latter I don't have to worry about scuffing it when I touch it and getting that slightly different shade of plastic poking out underneath. What's even the point.

I think if you're concerned about liking Optimus in the show, Micron Legend would probably surprise you (make sure you watch it subbed, etc etc u know the drill). Thing is, it's one of those shows that immediately becomes peak during the last ten episodes, and that completely recontextualizes the first 40. I'm exaggerating a bit, but that's definitely what it feels like with Optimus; he's got a great character arc in the show, but you'll only have it be hinted at for the majority of the run, until the climax/finale reveals why he is the way he is. That's generally how the show is though; like the first 20 eps are good, but it's generally agreed that you can kinda leave those on fast-forward, until literally ep 21 and it starts going real hard into its story and characters arcs.

Otherwise, just know he's really not a team-dad character; he's capable of levity and trying to be a team-dad, but at heart is really more of a serious team leader. It's almost like he's trying to be Sunbow OP, but his nature is more as a Bay OP, and I find that interesting.

The proportions on 86 devy are significantly better. He's universally chunkier and his limbs are much better sized. CW devy has a tiny button head, paper-thin t-rex arms and evern smaller thighs with mile long shins. It's bad.
Toy vs toon deco is a matter or preference and the inevitable boxset will probably be toy deco with all those extra details just like menasor.
He's also still bathed in molded detail, as most 86 figures are despite the implication.

Yeah, it's more like he really loves the thrill of battle deep down, despite all his work to move past it, and the guilt gnaws at him because of how much it's plagued his race. I guess the moment stood out to me at the time because, for the majority of the show it was shown as Optimus having to make a decision and struggling with some moral quandaries, and the kids remind him of what the right thing to do is - and I had assumed that that was just it being a kids show, yknow? But then the show gradually began to chip away at his character, and I realized "oh shit, that was intentional? They were playing the long-game with a character arc this entire time, with Optimus no less? That's awesome!"

If you're curious then def compare your favorite scenes with the dub later, if maybe only to understand why ppl like me are so viscerally against it. The UT was really one of the most rushed dubs in the 2000s, and that's saying something. Makes me sad that the trilogy still lives in the shadow of terrible translations, voice direction-less actors, poor sound mixing, and unfinished animation, that people think is just how it was supposed to be.

Yeah, being up-front the kids are maybe some of the lesser-written ones in TF, but I will always like the role they had with Optimus. And Super Link (Energon) immediately makes up for it with Kicker being based. I also really like Optimus' older police chief vibe going on in there actually, you could tell he's tired and experienced, but also quicker to judge/be at the draw because all the warring taught him to be that way. Super Link's hella underrated in general, honestly.

Credit where it's due, i think they're actually way better in the Armada PS2 game! My main complaint with them in the dubs is just that they deliver most lines the same exact ways, same intonation/cadence/etc, and of course working with oft-nonsensical scripts. Garry Chalk and David Kaye and pretty much the rest of the voice actors are solid, it's just a shame they were given a really bad and rushed out script thanks to Cartoon Network demanding it be aired earlier than it is ready. If they were given a proper script things would've been better and Armada/Micron Legends could've been one of those animes that you can go dub or sub either way and still be satisfied. Even though I love Armada and a couple of the dialogue changes they've made I found superior over the Japanese version, I know Micron Legends is far superior for having finished animation and a more clearer and concise themes and messages on robots programmed for endless war finding purpose once said war ends if ever and putting grudges aside to work together for a greater purpose. Something the dub absolutely butchers in their attempts to keep the war between Autobots and Decepticons more like G1 where it's good guys vs bad guys/

Just a heads up once you get your Armada Optimus, you'll probably need to shave off a couple of things. There had been reports when the toy first came out of breakage on the Leg/Super Mode Arms flaps due to Hasbro's QC being too tight. I don't know if the QC has been fixed with the reissues but so far I haven't heard any reports since the reissues, you might not need to do this but a word of caution just in case.

Because “Big Prime” just sounds weird, we’ve been over this. It’s not just like “lio prime/convoy” where you can just switch it out and expect it to sound right. You’d probably have to change it to something completely, like “mammoth prime” but that might be too much of a departure for those who are familiar with the character. tigerhawk could have been great, but they chose to not only not fix the problems with the original (goofy beast mode head, kinda awkward proportions with the upper body being too big, small hands, small beast mode bird legs) but in fact, push them all further in the wrong direction

Exactly. Tm2 megatron was also my favorite. I wanted to like armada megatron and tigerhawk, but they were strangely held back in areas that the voyagers of the same line didn’t suffer from. Skyquake isn’t terrible, but could’ve been way better. And laser prime is just the worse. The rest are rereleases and voyager sized leaders. The Aotp leaders have a nicer balance in both size and articulation, along with less obvious hollow spots, last time I checked?

Alright, the name makes sense enough. I remember feeling bad for Cyclonus, Scorponok, and Alpha Q, hating poor Demolishor for his weird eye, liking Kicker even though people generally seemed to dislike him. Slept on Cybertron though. Seeing Optimus in Energon would be interesting even though that's the most low-budget one. The direction and scripting for Armada is unfortunate, although I didn't know its animation was rushed as well. The name for Armada makes sense, not so much me having to open a $100 toy and fix yet another QC issue. I had hoped that adding glue to Rodimus' trailer for better friction would be the end of it. FUCK.

For context, dubbed Armada aired an entire 6 months prior to Micron Legend in ita original language. So yeah, there was plenty of art/animation errors or just shoddy rushed stuff that got a lot of fixes in ML, eapecially in the DVD releases which is what you'll find for any upload online. There's still a few obvious cut corners, but it's without debate better than Armada's art, yeah.
Super Link -> Energon has basically all the same issues as ML -> Armada but worse, which sucks, because i think it's a genuinely good continuation of ML's themes but the dub script is fucking incomprehensible, and the unfinished animation makes the CGI stand out even worse.

Immovable shoulders that limit his articulation, not a part of the original toy, the designer just likes using them. Also if you try to fix the shoulder with upgrades, he’s unable to transform. Overcomplicates the original toy’s transformation, even though the original holds up very well and only needed some small updates. Worse proportions than than the original, as the legs are just reused from a previous optimus. Does not have the budget to recreate the original laser prime trailer, so you’re just left with a lackluster voyager and a worse trailer shell. It feels better to buy it at an extremely cheap price, but I still get jealous looking at the original laser prime toy as it just looks cooler in comparison, and looks so easy to update with modern articulation.

They don't suddenly make the show look mindblowing, but eh, from the start I think it's overblown; I actually think the cel-shading makes it look better than Galaxy Force, plus whenever it does use 2D elements (usually humans, emotionally-important scenes, etc) are some of the best-looking 2D art in anything TF. The humans in GF look amateur by comparison to literally any shot of Kicker, honestly.
I think most of my props to SL have to go to the VA's, though. The returning cast from ML and the new guys all had very good emotional range, and they were the biggest role in making me believe these were real characters, versus rigid models that belt out voicelines. Cough cough dub. Funny how "good voices" can suddenly elevate the visuals, lmao.
(Makes me realize but I never said, I adore Megatron and Starscream's VAs in ML, holy shit they're way too good).
