Is that the case? I was certain in JP-G1 the original Matrix was still treated as reverently. It's just that in JP-BW (incl. Car Robots), the Convoys/Primes are all outfitted with "Energon Matrix"'s, which can have similar mystical powers, but are just less-powerful imitations.

Yes and no, but the Japanese canon constantly retcons/shifts stuff around to essentially homage the franchise as a whole, so what ended up happening is that the Japanese canon has like dozens of Matrices but they are of varying power. The Matrix of Leadership we know of actually is a fairly powerful one even in the Japanese version as well, but there's even stronger ones. The ones that Lio and Big Convoy have are even weaker by comparison, just souped up batteries essentially. Where the Matrix of Leadership is in this era is probably deliberately kept vague.
The Zodiac that will get packed in with Star Convoy is also vaguely related to one of the ultra powerful Matrices in the Japanese canon. Obviously it's with the toy because it's what Star Convoy had in the Japanese canon, but who knows what it technically represents in an American Transformers context. This is all very much a "don't think too hard about fucking Transformers lore, nerd" sort of thing.

I have been meaning to pull Trypticon out for a cleaning. He is probably the #1 most unloved figure in my entire collection because my dogs are terrified of him. :(

His robot mode has empty slots all over it. Looks basically guaranteed to me. Even if they are meant for his transformation to truck mode, they’re still there ready to be used by some armor. This is a request the fans have been making for ages. Hopefully this is it. However, as an initial hype-man of this figure, I definitely have some sticker shock. Kind of a major flaw with Weaponizers, who are basically all support pieces for Titan Cityformers (recalling Sixgun and Slammer for Metroplex, Brunt for Trypticon, Cog for Fort Max, Red Cog for Grand Max, Fasttrack for Scorponok, and Black Roritchi for BlackZarak), whereas some exclusives are their own thing.

Their logistics and dates are all over the place now. Both a good and bad thing. Good because I want my toys NOW. Bad because I see people getting things I preordered that won't be released till august and they're showing up at the local Walmarts or whatever so I get FOMO frenzy.

Anyways, the Target sale allowed me to get SS86 Bumblebee and I'm surprised how much I am enjoying this guy. I never gave a shit about G1er toys until now after getting Prime and Menasor I'm kind of all in whatever comes next.

My guess is all this tariff shit is making them race stuff out before the original dates, figures that are coming out late in the year have already been made and are just waiting at docks and what not to be shipped, we learned that in 2020 when the lockdown chaos lead to some of the strangest outcomes of people finding toys that weren't even up for their late Nov preorder in March. Legacy Dragstrip, Arcee, etc in the summer of 2020 when Dec preorders were all that was up online. Expect similar here or even as crazy as October preorders star shippingnext month. All these companies are getting jumpy as fuck over it where a lot of retailers both online and brick and mortar are just saying "no" to stocking and absorbing the costs.

Consistency is king. Color separation is great. Painted accents? Okay that usually looks fine too. Nothing beats a fully painted figure IMO if you pick good colors, but of course that's usually pricey. The way Hasbro does it though...it looks so bad. Like 86 Brawn's for example...does no one else think that orange and grey just looks like it'll rub off on your hands every time you touch the guy?

Best thing about Brunt is that you can use it to make the base mode look less bare. Mine stays together perfectly fine in both robot and tank modes so I don't regret getting it at all.

Still wish they actually tried to make it integrate better with Trypticon, though. You can store it in tank mode inside Trypticon's tail but you need to remove one arm and the cannon.

It's not the best truck mode, but the fact that the rear axles are uncovered dualies is something that actually makes it more real-world accurate than most. I like that the wheels aren't hidden away in robot mode, either. I always hate when Prime toys do that. The slight stylization of the cab is nice because it suggests this isn't supposed to be a "real world" truck model, so I'm more inclined to give a pass to some of the alt mode's scrappier parts.

And robot mode just looks hella fun. I love the shoulder cannon and myriad of callback weapons to other toys. I'm glad MPs are finally going to be good toys again.

IMO 40th Lio is probably the best version of the guy you'll ever get barring shelling out for the MP. You can fix the lion head of the Legacy somewhat by painting in some eyeballs and whatnot but the sculpt is just bad. Really down to if you really care about the guy that much but I can't wait for him to arrive and putting him next to Tazmania Kid.

So I've thought about this for a while as a long term custom project but do you guys think the Generation Trypticon would look good if I tried to make it to look more like the Zone version? We all know we'd never get an official one anyway. Obviously I'd need to 3D print some horns to plug into the sides of his head and a big shield but that's simple enough, I probably wouldn't bother with the finer details like the skirt armor and such. Rest of the job is just the paint job and honestly the Zone design is fairly simple as far as that goes.

My biggest grip about TR Tryp, besides the explodey joints, creaky sounds and wobble articulation, is that he came out at the same time as super tiny robots were being pushed as accessories and yet they made NO attempt to actually integrate them with Trypticon's alt and base mode. Like it would've been so much cooler if Tryp had a cockpit/main bridge space to seat a bunch of Titan Masters, or had some fold out turrets for em to sit in, or compartments to store the pretender armors, or a repair bay or launchpad for the smaller vehicles. Tryp came out at the absolute best time to make a playset Transformer figure and they almost entirely ignored the main feature of the time outside of some random foot pegs and the vore gimmick(which should have led to the prison cell!).

IIRC they've changed their tune about SS86 ending next year and instead said "it's mostly ending next year and we'll get some minor releases here and there". I'm going to guess that when Evan Brooks first made that statement he didn't realize just how many characters they hadn't done yet. Even if they went full speed and did nothing but 86 characters in the line it'd probably take like 3 years to do literally everyone like they said they wanted to. If you want to be autistic and retool all the Junkions from Wreck-Gar that's like 6 releases.

3P is great if you like spending like $150-200 per figure, as opposed to that amount to getting you the entire set of Constructicons or whatever. That and you never like playing with them because 3P shit is usually nightmare mode for transformations and they're painted display pieces you would feel like shit for chipping. They also have no gimmicks or fun shit you can do like weaponizers etc. I like Transformers but not that much bro. If I had infinite money (and space, more importantly- MPs are big motherfuckers) I'd go buy all of it sure, but I got other toys I want.

I think people buying the standalone 86 Prime are missing out unless they really, really just don't care about the trailer at all. $35 extra is a bit much but it's unlikely you'd find as comprehensive of a CHUG trailer at that price anywhere else. The Earthrise trailer has almost nothing in it and 3P upgrades are usually absurdly expensive.

I bought their FT/RP Soundblaster because I always wanted a Soundblaster and it's just not fucking worth the time or money to deal with it.
Everyone fucking sucks off the FT/RP Soundwave mold but the way its hips are designed means that you will be flexing a pinned piece of plastic over plastic for hip articulation, and I know that shit is not going to fucking last unless I never use the hip joint to its full potential. It actually has fucking less articulation than the MP-13 mold in the hips because of that. Out of all the god damn reviews I saw of it, nobody ever fucking mentioned it because they don't play with their god damn toys.
Out of principle I'm never going to buy anything from that company ever again, and I think you should steer clear after you've dealt with their Hoodlum. It shouldn't be a gamble if their shit is randomly half-assed or not, and I'm also saying this as someone who actually fucking likes their Stunticons and owns four of them (the wait for Deadend has been so long that I don't care anymore). And honestly it's kinda fucking embarrassing that a 3P MP has less articulation than a legends 3P but hey it's heavy :33333 so it's okay to be a literal brick I guess.

Just got this guy in the mail. Freaking loving this figure. I thought they were retro paint and had original toy heads, I no idea the packaging was retro and it leaves a great first impression when opening the shipping box. IMO Greebling is only a problem when they don't bother actually filling in the details with paint. It's the same reason so many of the SS Live action stuff look really off. Even a simple wash to bring out the details would probably make them look 10x better. Whatever the case that tends to not be an issue on MPs.

I think the thing that really bothers me about frameshit is that you would think that would make scrambling even easier, because you aren't restricted to making a bunch of members needing to conform to having a specific limb mode shape, you just need to have a mode where you have the ports line up that plug into the frame. TR Blitzwing's Robot mode looks terrible and I'd say the tank mode is a wash between the two. TR has those really obvious jet pieces folded all on the sides while the Legacy has that huge COCKpit. I'll agree the Legacy jet mode looks like absolute dogshit though, the TR clears easily but it's still not that great honestly.

I can't stop transforming and whooshing Optimus around in all his modes, his transformation is easy to remember and all of his modes are fun, he's particularly hefty in vehicle and super mode. I wish Rodimus somehow did this
He didn't have tight joints for his mega fists, so that's a plus. The wheels for his legs/arms don't like tabbing in, since the piece is a bit bent, which is unfortunate but rather minor

I guess I give a quick review over what I have experienced with this for around 2 hours

First some assembly comments.
I don't know whether it is because the toy is brand new or not. I had a very hard time getting the legs to locking into the sockets (ship or dino mode)

I ended up have to ask my coworkers to push in the buttons for releasing the locking mechanism as I push the legs into the torso using my whole body.
But
Once it is assembled it does look God damn impressive

The hips
I don't know what the original is like but for this one it does have a slightly light feeling rachet system. If you trying to turn the hips before connecting the legs to the torso you're not going to feel the joint correctly.
The force has to be applied properly by connecting the legs to the body.

So I think the issue is resolved . I can only pray the issue is fixed or else I'm a very stupid man spending 190 USD on this.

The chest plate does not hold at all. Searching online, the chest plate not holding does seem to be a problem. At the moment right now I'm using a sticky tac hold the door in.

The paint

Most of the paints are fine. But this... (The chipping around the corners)

I know this is not a "premium" toy. But it does get my nerves when you can clearly tell this is the result of the assembly line being a bit rough with the figure which is avoidable
Even my haslab starsaber has this type of corner chipping paint problems

To be fair Hasbro seems to be know how embarrassing it is to have shits like this with haslab figure. My deathsarous is like 100% perfect with the paintjob

I know there's a lot of excitement about him, but is there anyone here that's not getting Titan Star Convoy, actually? I thought I really wanted him, but I'm having second thoughts now.
On one hand he IS gigantic and extremely impressive, and JPG1 OP's ultimate form. On the other, I'm not sure if I really have that much emotional attachment to him, despite having read his appearance. And while he's cool, I dunno if I like the idea of OP being a giant (and $150 is still a hell of a price).
I like G1 OP, but if I want a toy of him I'd sooner want a normal or Powermaster version. If I wanted a cool Optimus that looks like Star Convoy, then I have more attachment to either Animated Optimus or the UT Primes lol.

I still think he's definitely awesome, but I feel that I'm maybe being caught up in the hype and especially FOMO to get him, more than anything. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Hmmm...that giant painted part sucks. Painting entire parts a different color is bad enough on smaller figures, but that much real estate just sucks. No matter what anyone does, it's gonna get chipped. This is the real main reason I skip releases like Slipstream where her legs are just painted over completely.

This problem you have is likely fixable with a paint marker, but you shouldn't have to.

Kinda glad I didn't impulse buy this guy, even though I really like the color scheme. I'm just tired of shitty QC issues on expensive figures.

Sorry, should have clarified "if you are in the US" I have no idea what that set was like else where but US Pulse that didn't sell out for weeks when it went up and was even in a sale before it was gone. Also they are now reprinting more and more exclusives in the main line, (Cosmos, Galaxy Shuttle, Crasher, Dirge, Ramjet, Origin BB, Earthrise Soundwave, etc) it could be likely they will sell those two later down the line.

But usually the colors are much darker. A Gundam marker , some Tamiya TS cans I can pretty much cover the problem without any serious colored discrepancy

I did something like that to SS 86 Prime's blue crotch

The problem is any light colors, there is not much I can do to match the color.

I guess I just have to over look it because- trust me, if you think QC like this is bad per the price your are paying, you have not seeing the really bad stuff and the even higher price you are paying for Bandai' toys.

Overview for full tilt

The thing is a combiner wars toy pretending to be a TR figure

Talking about extreme tip toeing

deluxe/Voy TR figures at least design their feet to have a slight slant. Full tilt is like nope, none at that. Other CW figures usually have a few millimeters of connections between the feet and the ground. Full tilt literally only have 4 points of contact.

I do like the color. The original purple seems to be too dark (from videos and pictures).
I just wish they molded the gun in the same color as the body to avoid and paint damages.
Oh and the shoulders pop out way too easily.

I probably won't buy him. I have the reissue of the original from 10-15 years back. Sure, it's a product of its time and I would've liked a modern update. But I feel all they really focused on was making it bigger. The truck mode manages to be even worse and HotRod is bizarrely oversized for a "micromaster." That's very exaggerated. I think Cosmos in the Walmart line was the last shortpacked one I can recall over the last 4 years. Also they are now reissuing more and more figures like said Cosmos that it feels like a fools game to worry about FOMO. It's a safe bet all these combiner will have "toy accurate" box sets next year and I even expect them to do comparable with the 13 Primes.

This seems to confirm MPG-17 will be standard MP-scaled. So they want to create a CHUG-compatible Optimus that's nearly the size of Siege Jetfire? Getting beyond any discussions of how people feel about Raiden and Ginrai that's something that makes me scratch my head at the end of the day. MPG was basically another line/a subline at first but now it's basically the replacement for MP and it often reissues/redecos stuff from the MP line, not to mention Ginrai was basically released in both lines in a way that didn't make a whole lot of sense. So basically it's just been a really long drawn out rebranding of the MP line and I really wonder what the entire point was. I think they genuinely have no idea what to do with the MP line right now.

Conversely, I am starting to think maybe gun Megatron really is dead and gone. If for no other reason than the fact that many websites wont even let you post a photo of a gun or write out the word. MP36 is almost impossible to sell on Facebook. Thats reason enough for them never to try again. :(

That's because the door gets slightly bent when removing it from the mold at the factory or something like that. I just removed the purple part and put the door in almost boiling water to make it more malleable, then put it on a table and piled several big books on top (better if you put some cardboard in between so the titanmaster little peg doesn't interfere).
It's still not the most solid connection but it stays shut now.

yeah no shit dude, we're trying to put words to a very esoteric thing, but the THING is still real. it's the feel of how it plays. the combination of the physics, obstacles and tools, risks and rewards, all that shit. it's just like saying 'how a car drives' like you can't describe it, you just have to test it out.
Fun is important. Not because it's a broad thing with a specific definition, but because of what it precludes. you can't have fun while you're frustrated. you can't have fun while you're constantly being reminded of what more fun could have been. and yes, that means just about anything can be fun, if you're just... rational enough. but that kind of 'this is fine' mindset does not lead anywhere.
