Why can't West make something like the ones on the right?

They could but they don't. You see the one on the right is Spider-Man it was designed to be Spider-Man. The one on the left is a body painted to look like Spider-Man but it could be painted to look like any one in the marvel roster so it has to be generalized and not designed to be any one specific. It's just a buck body.

The west creates the price point then makes the figure to fall under that price point
Asians make the figure then set the price point in relation to what it took to make it

The best Spider-Man figures are the Revoltech (1.0 and 2.0) and the Sentinel Peter B. Parker
Mafex doesn't come close, put all 3 in poses and see which look the more natural.

But, articulation aside, American companies can make really great sculpts. I mainly do imports on the whole, but I loved how DC Direct did sculpts or Diamond/Marvel select. They can really nail some specific artists looks. And they're fairly cheap

DC Direct could have decent articulation depending on the figure. Not every character needs to be put into Nightwing or Spider-Man poses. Yeah, I would like to get a bit more articulation from this Superman as Shazam figure but it's got enough to satisfy me what with everything else (comic accuracy, good looks, true to the art, etc.).
