I loved those MotU figures. Would have been so much nicer to collect 100 different characters in this scale than 5.5" Origins, considering scarcely more than a dozen of the big ones have action feature mechanisms that can't scale down.

They look to be grey versions of the small terrain pieces, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone know for sure?

Pretty sure they're actually two pieces; the terrain piece likely has a green top like the other pieces and on top of it is one of those triangular rock pieces that made frequent appearances in Halo sets.

On second thought it's possible the top is grey like the rest, that same piece appeared in EVA's Last Stand in a lighter grey.

I found a listing under the term "Building Block Rockery" but I can only find the small rock pieces and not what seems to be the big piece he's standing on. It could also be a camera trick, and he's on a bunch of them side by side.

Oh I see, yeah it's hard to say with the angle but the stud spacing suggests it could be a larger plate, possibly the one from EVA's Last Stand etc. Would think they'd be selling it too alongside the smaller parts, unless it's just a prototype or was scrapped but repurposed for displaying other stuff.

Mattel bought them.

Suddenly, Mega Blox was only allowed to produce sets that sell 500k and above, thus killing all creativity and relying on licenses alone.
And since Mattel is notoriously greedy, budget cuts were made to all sets. Pieces/minifigure count was lowered and prices went up.
