>>11412377The modern ones suck. I played with both sets from the 00s and older ones. Older sets were better simply because they used simple pieces and patterns exclusively, no preformed pieces and often mechanical bits too. I know of a brand that makes stuff like the older sets called Merkur, but they are rather pricey since they are made in the Czech Republic and not China (though Meccano/Erector sets were made in France until recently).
Meccano would have been in much more competent hands if someone like Hornby Hobbies bought them instead of Spin Master (who should have just focused on Air Hogs, mind you).
