A Stryker is a pretty cool alt-mode, but I don't think it works for Soundwave.

I had an idea that Soundwave could transform into a supercomputer that rivals Teletraan-1, seeing as how the Decepticons don't have one and Soundwave is their communications officer while his minions are intelligence-gatherers.
Imagine something like the Batcomputer, where Soundwave's chest folds out and becomes the main monitor. His arms could become smaller peripheral screens while his legs would make up the base of the computer and its keyboard. His cassettes would now be circular data-disks like the Fall of Cybertron toy, which can slot into "drives" near his keyboard. The only question is how his eject gimmick would work. What do you all think?

kind of sounding like a cool alternate take on his titans return toy honestly, I kinda dig it. I could see it sliding into a story where his body gets damaged and hes put into the ship to stay alive or something like that

my personal favourite modern alt mode for soundwave is a drone/spy plane. I like him being away from the action, gathering data, air dropping his minions to gather intel. I think the prime look is cool as a one off but too monstrous. The earthspark design is peak, I also really love his jet mode from unicron trilogy, hell even like his satellite from the movies

I think a satellite is another ideal alt-mode for Soundwave that the movies did very little with. Heck, maybe he splits into both a computer AND a satellite, interfacing with it from orbit like how Teletraan-1 has a little probe. Or maybe Soundwave himself is the computer, and he can merge with his satellite for a super mode. I think it's about time Soundwave had a badass super mode.

I dunno. I've only really started to become interested in this stuff since Robosen made robot transformers. That's been my dream since the 80's when I was a kid. I'm totally fascinated by the fact that we're living in a time where my child fantasy has become reality.

Hasbro called me today about my Omega Prime. My Optimus had the crack and had some lubricant leaking from the gray piece. They want me to send the whole thing back. I don't think they even care about the cracks, but they really seemed concerned about the leak.

Yeah, i wasn't expecting a call either, or any response outside of a bot email. I said fuck it and displayed it too. But now, they want me to take photos of the leak too, which made me think that was all that they cared about, and the email wants a bunch of other info too, like the age of anyone who would handle the figure, which was weird. I wasn't expecting such a response anyway, so this this is all surprising to me. But now I have to dredge out the box and put everything away.

Ive had Armada Optimus for two weeks and he is one of my favorite toys Ive ever owned in my life. He is so awesome looking and super fun to transform. Ive been playing with him and flipping him between modes over and over. I highly recommend anyone interested in him who dosent have him yet to grab one up before he gets any more expensive.

With that out of the way I have a little problem and Id love to hear from fellow owners. I noticed the edges of his silver chest have developed blemishes all over them. He did not come out of the box like this. My theory is its from going to and from truck mode. I think these parts are colliding with his shoulders during transformation. Can you guys check yours and see if you have these marks

I really misspoke in this post saying “he came out of the box like this” considering I got him secondhand. I just got my holy grail MPG-09 and in some ways I like Armada Op better. I see a lot of similarities in them that I never realized before which is interesting. Armada Op is a better value. By today’s standards he was underpriced. I think it was a love letter to or from Warden. Also he’s probably more fun to play with because I have no concerns about breaking him. If Powermaster Prime wasnt my all time #1 favorite character I think Armada Op might just be straight up better overall, pound for pound.

Yeah, it is pretty neat. but keep in mind, like most modern technological advances, it's... kind of cheating. It's like how "your own personal robot" was just a gimmicky toy throughout the 80s and it could only do the most basic of things.. we're still LIKE that, relative to what we legitimately can do. Yeah it's fascinatingly complex and it's reprogrammable, but I have zero faith in the longevity of these toys because of all the motors and failure points..
What we need to do, really, is what animatronic amusement parks did, when they replaced pneumatics with servomotors, and suddenly had a lot less weight to work with and didn't have to always be hooked up to the pneumatic fluid. but like, a step beyond. because motors also kind of suck and need lots of maintenance.

That's probably one of the most solid Tank Megatron transformation schemes I've seen to date. With just a few tweaks and adjustments that could easily make for a fantastic Leader Class Megs to finally put the Siege/Earthrise layout to rest.

That just sounds....boring. The Cassete deck worked back in the day cause it was essentially a 1:1 toy prop that turned into a cool robot. Nowadays the whole 1:1 toy to robot thing don't fly and having your main computer system just be a dude who hangs out with you seems kind of silly. Vehicle modes or gtfo as far as I'm concerned, and some sort of ground surveillance truck, whether it be a Stryker APC or some other suped up SUV, works great for Soundwave's blocky shapes and gimmicks.

Hell, just the basic idea of Soundwave being an Infantry troop transport is perfect for him because that's basically what he is.

I'm on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada and I've seen sporadic stocking of the newest figures. I've happened to be in Walmart at just the right time on 3 separate occasions where I came across the various size classes or sublines having just been put out. First I came across a lone Scrapper, then on another visit I grabbed Age of the Primes Air Raid and Slingshot, and most recently I found they had put out the Studio series deluxes so I got a Bonecrusher and picked up Jazz too.

The figures are coming to shelves, but in my experience at least, in small quantities like a case at a time so they get bought very quickly.

Every part of every mold has injection points, seam lines and sprue marks which can give you an idea of how they were molded. Worth noting that they aren't always molded flat in clean halves, some things are made at an angle or with multiple "bumps" between both halves of the mold

Nope, they got the license for the VG mold, which royally fucked over robotech since they didn't have their best toy available. Meanwhile, it's possible Macross airing wasn't considered a possibility, so by the time the show was being prepped, Jetfire was quietly redesigned and used sparingly since it would promote Robotech had they stuck to the toy design.

Speaking of Prima, what's up with those shoulder pads, anyway? They're on little pieces that can be extended and can be completely folded out, but I have no idea why they have that much articulation - you don't need to move or unfold them at all for his transformation, and they don't obstruct his arm movement in their default state enough to warrant being double-hinged. He also has a weird 'reverse ab crunch' that, again, is completely unnecessary for him to transform. It's weird, like they had some other transformation scheme planned that they aborted but forgot to remove stuff from.

I thought the same ant first but it turns out it’s entirely necessary for him to transform. The backpack hinge slots into the space made by that ‘reverse ab crunch’ allowing it to sit slightly further forward, which gives just enough space for the legs to fold in without mashing into the backpack.

2 theories
1) the 13 molds are mostly just halfway aborted molds of other characters. Fallen was Devastation Megs, Alchemist was TFPrime Ratchet, Vector is from Jhiaxus, who himself is pretty obviously a scrapped seeker design
Solus and Onyx were obviously made JUST for this line, but I get the feeling that Prima, especialy with his shoulder pads, was based on some IDW character and they decided to pull it when IDW lost the license.

Remember too, they designed a wierd abomination Straxus for legacy pt 1 that they had to scrap and go a different direction, which seems to be why we got junkions, so there's a precedent.

Found wave 2 locally of these little guys. Picked up 5 boxes and Got Starscream Grimlock bot and beast, Cliffjumper bleh and Mixmaster. These things are addictive, may as well at least go for all the seekers and Dinobots.

My only experience was a Mirage I got from a lot. He was literally crumbling while transforming it. I couldn't believe how bad he was.

Aside from that, I've only bought some nonnef kits, and one dna kit (a cheap Snarl kit with 2 swords, I only wanted the weapons).

Thanks Sherlock. Now my question is why. When every other Soundwave EVER leaves the head on the torso, so ya know he can do the chest door thing that even the Core class figure manages. My other gripe is this figure’s plastic is so damn thin he feels weird, like a bootleg. He feels like a styrene model kit. The previous Earthspark figures aren’t like this. They thinned every wall of this figure as much as humanly possible.

Context: In War Dawn, Megatron having the power chips of the other Decepticons would have let him transform into a jet mode too. This model sheet got drawn for the scene, but it whole thing was ultimately discarded. A lingering part of it stays in the final episode: after the Decepticons give their power chips to Megatron, none of the ones that did transform (because they can't).

I understand the argument of not wanting to buy another toy that is similar to the one you've got, but I thought the whole appeal of SS86 toys is that they're more refined to match the show designs than previous models. I mean, Optimus' legs and feet look incredible on the SS86 model. Plus, if you're new to collecting, then this new figurine is a no-brainer purchase if you're after that TV show look.

Glad I never liked that mold and didn't buy it. Got the SS86 and love it, it's just better in every regard.
