I have an extra Skullgrin (was missing a weapon and got it for dirt cheap) which I'm gonna use with Mavs' D-16 kit to make a pre-war Megatron. Also going to model up and print a new turret and weapon for him to make his vehicle mode moderately less useless looking. Torn on whether his former occupation should be a miner or a gladiator though. Gladiator could be fun and would be pretty simple as it would basically just involve giving him a tankier tank mode, but drill tanks are fun too and I do like the idea of him being an honest hard-working miner prior to becoming the tyrant we all know and love.

weird that there's so many hinges in the beast mode neck, yet when it's all together and tabbed in, none of it moves. and also the tail doesn't flatten out. seems like one more accordion of plastic was in the budget, but maybe not.

I got the Megatron off of HLJ; he's already en route, so he'll be here in a week or two. Waiting on the DNA kit reveal for him - assuming it wasn't just a mockup in their teaser, it looks like they'll at least be making proper back spines for him; even if that ends up being a bust, I like Grimlock (and that particular mold) in general, so I won't mind him just being a weirdly colored version too much regardless.

You say that, but for me it's not about having Transformers toys, it's about the fantasy becoming reality. When I was a kid in the 80's, it was a dream of mine to have a robot Transformer. What Robosen has done is make it a reality. I have no intention of getting any toy, but a robot is a different matter entirely, which is the point no matter the cost. I could buy a flagship right now, but even I'm hesitant to for how much it would hurt my wallet.

There's also another thing. I'm hoping that Optimus and Megatron get a revision down the line to refine their looks. Megatron is near perfect for me, and has the best looking tank mode to date, but I want a lighter looking grey body, and I want the base of the feet to have a cover-plates to hide the screws as they do kinda spoil the tank mode look. As for Optimus, it's the gaps in the body that irritate me, and I would like to see the wheels rotate into the legs when it transforms into robot mode, but the latter I'm not so fussed about considering the difficulty it would be to pull it off.

Later down the line I'm hoping for a transforming Soundwave into a Stryker vehicle. The mode fits with Soundwave's militant espionage archetype.

I mean, yeah, but I'd be buying that for the Kiryu figure at that point and not the Laser Prime. As it stands, other than the paint scheme (and only in robot mode), he has absolutely nothing to do with Kiryu, or Godzilla in general; the least they could have done was try to tweak the trailer to give it a Maser turret or something, but as-is I don't see what made them think he was an acceptable mold for a crossover; at least Megatron/Grimlock is saurian enough that he can pass as 'maybe Godzila if you take out your contact lenses and squint a little'.

I don't think the Marauder Megatron design was ever given an official color scheme. (At least not one that was made public.) A quick Google search suggests that anon's picture was made by Josh Perez, who was good friends with and worked closely with Derrick Wyatt years after Animated was canceled to produce art for other characters and concepts that might've appeared in a fourth season, such as Shattered Glass stuff. So it's possible, maybe even likely, that these colors are about what Derrick Wyatt had intended. Plus, I've also seen a commission by Eric Siebenaler using a very similar color scheme for the character. But there's still no guarantee those would have been his final colors if the toy had been made, especially since Hasbro seems to have been interested in increased synergy with the colors/designs of the live-action movies if a fourth Animated season had been made, as evident by concept art showing them wanting to give flames to Optimus, make Ratchet green, add Jazz and Ironhide to the main cast, etc.

We only ever saw a gray, resin prototype, but the most obvious design cue taken from Beast Machines Megatron was the mask. If they ever actually made this figure, I'd buy it in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, budgets for these toys are so much worse than they were back in the days of Animated 15+ years ago, that Hasbro would probably completely redo the figure from the ground up to cut as many corners as possible, rather than just try to faithfully replicate the design that already existed. So there's no way it would look nearly as cool if it was produced now, as opposed to if it had never been canceled in the first place.

The forward-placed turret is one of the biggest defining factors of USSR-built tanks during the 30s/40s (Second only to sloped armor) Most other countries put their turrets closer to the middle, with only a few weird example like the Porsche Tiger coming from non-USSR countries.

I've literally not heard a single report of this and this picture doesn't even count. TMNT fans are so bizarre to me. All their reboots barely stray at all from eachother, and at most just put a bit more emphasis on some aspects than the others.
You'd think their fans would understand eachother better? Yknow, versus TF, where the series at its peak basically reinvented its entire genre/appeal every other year - at least we have an excuse for being autistic.

Furman and Roche's comics are the peak for sure.
AHM is hit or miss, but I enjoyed it as a "Dreamwave G1 Vol 1 if it was good".
Barber's comic had an interesting setup but never quite capitalized on it, and progressively got worse to the point I'd call it the worst TF comic. But, Scott's Windblade/TAAO comic took that setup and actually wrote it interestingly (and was the thing that finally made me like Windblade as a character).
Roberts' comic eventually got a bit too self-indulgent for sure, and like all TF IDW had a rushed ending and left a couple plot threads unfinished, but I really enjoyed its setup as just, fun space adventures. I know why people might not gel with the irreverant dialogue, but I enjoyed its sense of humor.
That focus on episodic sci-fi adventures, plus its focus on obscure characters, really made it feel like a piece of TF that was trying to push the series in new directions (like all the 90s-2000s media), unlike basically anything else since the 2010s that has just been trying to cheaply recapture the popularity of Bay and G1.

Yeah I'd agree with that evaluation. The only vaguely g1 style Megatron I've ever owned is the old wfc deluxe but I've been in the market for a more classic styled one for a really long time. Plus I think this guy looks a lot better than siege or earthrise. It'll be nice to pick him up when I get the chance.

Nah, I think we need a Baiwei/Weijiang level rework. Most fixes be easy like tweaking the knee joints, better paint, swapping the head and turning the wing kibble mass into a tail. Hardest part would be adding a step where the front of the car chest flips and reveals the tits but I'm not sure if that's possible with the space in the chest cavity.
