if I paid (I forgot what the most recent DS was... $500? $600?) for a Death Star I'd be very upset at the thought of buying a new one. the new one better be a freaking work of art, for real, to make me want to spend a whole thousand dollars on it, when I've already spent so much before

and realistically, anybody who WOULD buy the new one, has already bought the old one. Lego is somewhat insane to rely on everybody buying it again.

Lego could use the sales stats to calculate the number of people who buy every set no matter what. honestly valuable data to have for them

Don't forget it comes it 40 (?) minifigs and most of them will probably be exclusive (Luke and Han will have slightly different clothes creases that make them exclusive). And currently a lot of LSW afools are obsessed with minifigures to the point a $1000 set will sell extremely well just because it has a bunch of Glup Shittos.

Predictions for LEGO Pokémon?

I expect more sets similar to the How to Train Your Dragon Toothless set, and possibly new pieces like the one shown in the picture for Poké Balls. I believe we'll see a hybrid theme that includes both brick-built Pokémon, minifigures, and molded Pokémon figures.

I can see LEGO releasing $40–$50 chibi-style, cute Pokémon sets, as well as 3-in-1 evolution sets. There may also be playsets featuring minifigures and molded Pokémon like Pikachu, Meowth, Bulbasaur, etc.

Thoughts? Expectations?

Was originally planning on buying Party's Bar for the Shanks minifig and the molded Gum-Gum Fruit piece, but I'm pretty sure its just 2 eggshell pieces in purple. Was also hoping to see a new molded mutton leg instead of the reused drumstick piece, and I wish we had Luffy's rubber arm torso and the transponder snail available in something cheaper than Arlong Park for $80. Still an incredible thing to see done in Lego though, a classic wish realized. Makes me feel like an anime rewatch for the classic pre-timeskip atmosphere.

Truly. It feels like the stars aligned and Lego put the most effort towards and nailed the authenticity+value for this one set out of the wave in particular, was pleasantly surprised to see they even included the detailed interior kitchen/workshop and storage hatches. I don't hate any of the other sets, but I'm not a fan of facade sets, plus I didn't like the live action and this set looks the most faithful to the anime/manga. Outside of some relatively minor details (placement of the tangerine trees and the rear mast being switched, no curly eyebrows on Sanji/no nose on Usopp, all white figurehead) both the Going Merry and the crew really look like their iconic designs and its a blessing to see. Hope Chopper looks good in the 2nd wave and isn't gated behind a $330 paywall like Mihawk.

the Netflix version is "based on" the anime version, so there are differences. enough to enrage the anime fans. go read some other essay about those differences, I'm not going to do it here

the circle argument is that Netflix would not have done it without the anime having first been so popular, so stepping over the anime to do Netflix version Lego sets, instead of the original anime version, is slightly insulting (to the original core fans)

having said that, I've only seen the Netflix version, it was great, and I'm glad it's getting Lego sets.

if it helps, the guy who made One Piece (Oda) is HEAVILY involved with the Netflix version. he approves like, everything, about it. several scenes are shot-for-shot remakes of the anime (so I've heard, I don't know)

so it's quite different than most IPs. the creator's intent is still maintained in the essence, it's not somebody else thinking what it should be

pic related was one of my favorite childhood sets and I simply have a hard time believing lego would be willing to put out something like this at a $5 price point anymore. I've yet to have one of those mutants or Axl in my hands, but I think it's weird how they have minifig legs but are so detailed upwards, and maybe too big. Especially Axl, Nexo Knights cockpits can't house him. Maybe if he were a tad smaller or a stud or inch less wide. They kind of need a new intermediate minifig size to make characters like this work, like the Woody/Navi parts but wider as well. New molds for legs, torso, and arms. Heads would be either a standard minifig head or a special moulded one depending on the character. Footprint would be 1x3, legs ~1.5x wider than a brick. Arms would be appropriate size. They could use the same connection as standard arms like those flashlight minifigs.

Anons who buy used sets, what kind of condition do you expect to get them in? I've finally decided to start selling off my childhood collection. I kind of thought I was sitting on a small gold mine because I think most sets I have are selling for at least double their original msrp. But I realized everything is really dusty and a lot of pieces and mini figs are cracked or yellowed which I'm guessing lowers the value. I've been trying to clean them up because I don't want someone to feel scammed but idk if it's worth the effort and I kind of want to sell as is maybe for lower price just to get rid of them quicker.

Yellowed pieces are always expected, especially on white bricks. If anyone whines about receiving 30 year old used yellowed bricks then that's his problem. As for cracks and other defects you should always let the buyers know. I personally don't care about stuff like that, if I can choose between a $100 and a $90 listing but one minifig has a crack I'll take the cheaper one.

Well, we got a Spider-Verse set and a CMF based on Across the Spider-Verse after that movie came out in 2023. Now it’s 2025—two years later—so I wouldn’t be surprised if Superman is a hit and LEGO decides to make sets for it. the moment they start discounting those $300+ sets, it's over. you might get, at most, 20% off on Black Friday door buster only for 3 hours. but even that is something Lego has carefully written into sales contracts. they would rather burn those sets than discount them.

IF Lego ever did a clearance sale on a $300 set, they would NEVER sell for $300 again. people would seethe and wait for the clearance chance. it would take decades to recover, as they reverse the clearance policy, people still wait, $300 sets never sell, eventually people realize the clearance won't happen again, and start paying full $300 again...

Look, I get it—people will say, “But if you buy 10 smaller sets, you still end up spending $300 and getting about the same number of pieces as one big $300 set.”

But I’d much rather spread that $300 across 10 different sets over three months than blow it all on one fucking set that I finish building in an hour.

For the smaller, more affordable set, the winner is Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

We’ve known this for months, ever since LEGO announced the five finalists chosen by the design team. It was pretty clear from the start — with two Buffy sets among the finalists, it was obvious they were aiming to go with that theme. As for The X-Files, it seemed like a no-brainer. LEGO allowed it on the Ideas platform because they consider the IP relatively safe. And with a reboot on the horizon, now is the perfect time to release a set — before the franchise either gains new popularity or fizzles out depending on how the reboot is received.

There have been many X-Files LEGO Ideas submissions in the past that reached the review phase but were never approved. With the timing and renewed interest, it finally makes sense to move forward with it now.

Thoughts on adding decals to minifigs? I was thinking of buying some from Saber Scorpion to make KOTOR minifigs. Wasn't sure if anyone else had experience with them, or how they hold up under handling and light play.

Are waterslide decals more sturdy? I was thinking of even trying to design my own decals in photoshop, and then using waterslide if those are better

I have experience printing my own decals, but never bought SaberScorpion's. I have bought from BrickStickerShop and they're good. I advise you get A4 sticker paper (you can get a pack of 20 sheets off eBay for reasonably cheap) if you want to do your own. To avoid smudging, you may need clear spray paint to seal the ink after it dries.

No, the only advantage is the transparency and thinness (useful for faces). The paper is more expensive than sticker paper too. They come off pretty easily if you just nudge them with your finger. Ideally you're supposed to 'bake' the decal onto your mug or bowl or whatever in the oven which bonds it to the surface. Obviously you can't do this with Lego but you can use a hair dryer, though I'm not sure if that actually helps.

Why is Lego incapable of giving any iteration of Ahsoka the correct lightsabers? They always give her two normal sized blades instead of one normal length and one shorter, and her TCW costumes never have the correct yellow blade on the offhand

I mean acrylic spray paint. Varnish is different chemically, this stuff is just paint but clear. Picrel is the one I used, I find the satin works well to blend in with the plastic finish. Lego pieces are kind of shiny (at least since 2004ish I think) so matte would stick out, but I think a glossy paint would be too shiny and also stick out. Keep in mind though that I'm no expert on paints and I haven't tried any other coats, I just found that this works. Maybe spray varnish would work on stickers too, I can't tell you. If you already have varnish it's probably worth trying before you go and buy a new spray can. Anyway if you end up using paint, use only one coat. Using too many on my first try soaked into the sticker paper and made it partially transparent. Waterslide paper does require 2 or more coats though otherwise the ink bleeds when you put it in water.

I genuinely don't understand why lego seems to be so uncaring towards Star Wars like not giving them cloth pieces or unique molds.
