Modern God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and especially Horizon Zero Dawn (the most astroturfed IP in Sony's history) do not spark anywhere near the kind of nostalgia people have for scrimbo bimblo IPs from Sony's past. Hell, even classic Kratos would have been significantly more successful than reboot Kratos. None of these modern IPs are what shaped Playstation into the world phenomena it became, not in the slightest. There are so many more iconic characters than these. Ratchet and Clank, classic Kratos, a Hellgast soldier, Nathan Drake, Sly Cooper and his gang, and Jak & Daxter are all what I think of when I think about first party Sony IPs. Sony runs away from their past instead of celebrating it, and they want to treat the right now as if it's the only thing that matters even if it's something nobody gives two shits about like Horizon or Last of Us Part 2.
