The GI Joe designers were introducing one new black character each year, and Doc was 83, between Stalker and Roadblock.
Colonel Courage was the last one, 93, with another version of Stalker being "good enough" for the line's death in 94.
There was also one woman a year for diversity through 87, but that was a weak year and it spooked Hasbro, so no more after Jinx.
There may have been a new Asian man every year starting with Storm Shadow 84: i.e. Quick Kick 85, Tunnel Rat 87, Budo 88, but I'm not positive.
