Anytime I go to Target is see something 20something normalfaggot with a zoomer haircut and airpods checking out the lego aisle. He is eyeing the black boxes and thinking "Oh, yes, this is made for serious adults like me. I think I’m finally growing out of legos. I’ve reached the wall.
Nothing being released from Lego excites me the way I used to. I looked around target toy aisles and visited a bunch of Lego stores in nearby malls
And I felt nothing. No joy. No whimsy. Not even a “oh dude I HAVE to buy that”. Just “Heh I guess that’d be cool to own” at best.
I’m very satisfied and happy with the Legos I do own. I have a bunch of of (the ‘66 one is my all time favorite), all of the Lego looney tunes, a Ghostbusters echo 1 set(the 2016 version. The best version), and Optimus fucking prime. I tried to get back in that Lego collector vibe with recent acquisitions of a fantastic four and Toy Story set. But I didn’t feel much out of it other than the feeling I blew money down the drain.
Man. Maybe I should just stop collecting legos. I have everything I could ever want (Lego wise)

Like, Universal had for over 5 years rights to make new lego movies and only a Pharell biopic releases while others are in "development", why is it taking so long? And they are live action for some reason!!??

Lego had highest sales in 2014 during the movie craze, why can't they replicate it?

I say the old one is too compact

It's look more like a remote fortress rather than a full castle with individual compositions.
You need to open up the whole set to have it presentable as some kind of functional castle with the silhouette

The new you don't have to open it up to have the silhouette to look like some kind of huge castle.
But to be fair, unlike the old one, the opening interior of the new ones are open in the back instead of a pointing toward of the courtyard.
So the old one do have the benefit of able to present the castle in all 360 view from the outside

What do we think about the description for the anniversary set that appeared a little while ago saying something about connecting to the monastery? Is it mistaken, could it mean the 2019 version, or could we actually have a new one coming out (alongside a Garmadon's dark fortress if that one dubious list that mentioned a monastery is to be believed)?

the first The Lego Movie was a brilliant masterpiece of writing that was going to be impossible to replicate. similar to the first Matrix movie. it replied on a surprise reveal, and you just can't re-do that. the LM2 sequel was honestly not a bad try, for what it's worth.

but... Lego DID re-capture that writing brilliance with the Star Wars Rebuild The Galaxy story. except they chose to release that as a Disney+ 4 episode thing instead of mashing it together into a 1-movie theater release. part of the brilliance of the writing, was what made it NOT possible to actually release in the theater! it was such a striking criticism of the way Disney handled the Star Wars story, that they dare not make it popular. it's sort of a miracle they showed it at all.

Lego were idiots for not making a Lego movie tv series spin off, no, not Unikitty. A lego movie series featuring Emmet and other characters from that universe like Benny, Metalbeard, etc. This theme could have been evergreen like Ninjago thanks to set sales alone. A show like this could have added more iconic characters from other classic lego themes too in main roles!

And now to continue my rant, I personally like Dreamzzz but when I heard of this theme coming I imagined something like pic related, a theme with yes, 2 in 1 builds but based on various classic themes in more wacky fashion like castle, adventurers, etc. You know, things you would dream. Because for sure as hell I wasn't dreaming of giant rabbits.

I am dissapointed with the current status of original themes, by the end of the decade we will have 3 original themes if we are lucky (creator, ninjago, friends). I don't count city because its more real life and doesn't have named characters. But it would be 4 with city.

the audience is meant to identify with the father, not the kid. it's such a twist. like, Star Wars being about Darth Vader's journey all along b-but Vader was the villain? Oh, that's what you thought? Lego did that all in one movie.

Lego probably could have made one more round of sets though. there were a few things they missed. Lego should have gone the extra step and sold real-life (not Lego version) cat posters

Why was there never an Ancient Egypt theme?

Before you say it, yes, I am aware of both Adventurers and Pharao's quest. That's not what I'm talking about, those are modern day characters exploring ancient ruins. What I mean is a theme that is actually set in ancient times. We have had several "ancient" themes such as Castle, Pirates, Vikings, Western or Ninja, so why not Ancient Egypt?

considering Lego ninjas started out as non-themed, they added colors, like the Space figures. and kids were drawn to it (more colors! oh! there's a green one now!) we could have easily wound up with Space-go or Castle-go, the original gimmick of spinning was more like a Ninja move, so here we are decades later with Ninjas

I thought the snake bad guys looked the coolest, but I kinda liked the steampunk air pirates, too

This is what I don't get, Lego did Nexo Knights which was supposed to be Castle but Ninjago, but it got it all wrong, me personally, I would have rebooted Knights Kingdom 2004, that was perfect for an action theme and had the colored heroes. I would have made a GOOD show and give them fantasy villains like orcs, skeletons, dragons, ghosts, etc. Wanna give them vehicles? Don't do technological ones, make things like steampunk or rune magic shit like fucking Zelda has vehicles now. And don't give me the excuse of kids don't get steampunk that Nabii keeps telling, they did steampunk with Ninjago sky pirates! Hell, Metalbeard was all steampunk!

Am I the only one who thinks that if Lego made Heroica a minifig scale theme with playsets and a tv series with the quality of Monkie Kid, that it would be a hit like Ninjago? It has all the right elements.

No, unless they completely reworked it to be a "TTRPG Game Master kit" type of theme that gives you sets, pieces and figs to create props for campaigns for various RPGs. The orinial Heroica sold like ass for a reason. Board games (outside of DnD) are become more and more of a niche. Making a Lego board game means you're asking your niche demographic to not only find other people to play with, learn the rules, etc, but also build the actual game.

And if you mean removing the game element entirely, then they already did that with things like Elves, Castle, Creator, etc. Stop being a retarded secondary.

So for me it's cool - i dont spend that much on Lego and always ready to buy stuff when i want because its on discount/etc

Old for all but Anakin. That Minifig always kinda looked fucked. New isnt that great either but its better. Old Batman and Spider-Man are peak. The hat piece for Indi doesnt look good with hair. It does look odd on the old but it looks terrible on the new.

I love it, but I do wonder if they can build it out much more without repeating themselves. A smaller daily bugle would be nice, but the big one just came out. Maybe a mini Chrysler building for the Kingpin with spider slayers and the scorpion like out of the animated series? I feel like a lot of villain lairs would be basically the same thing as the oscorp tower but without the recognizable facade. Like if you make a lab for the lizard, or octavius, or a miles warren cloning lab, what would the building actually be? That said I hope they crack it because I would love to see more.

This is actually a really good idea and I would love this, but I feel like it would be way too hard for modern Lego to make since everything has to be hyper detailed and have a thousand 1x1 tiles and plates on it. They would end up skimping on the size of the monsters/castle mecha and there would be no room for minifigs to stand on them.
