Looking at sets over the years you can pinpoint the moment the brand went to total dog shit. It's when the sets went from blocky to being smooth and curved with lots of custom parts. What happened between 2000-2007 that made this happen? Was it the Bionicle autists who only wanted to collect action figures? You can see the sentiment went from having creative options to only build the thing on the box.

Lego sucks because it is almost exclusively designed for the rich/people bad with money. There's no point to me paying 200 for some small legoset when I could buy a detailed limited statue for less. I scoff when I go to a place with a lego display and see honestly miniscule sets for triple digits. Fucking robbery, especially when they aren't limited preorder shit.

Because Lego marketers don't want to make toys for kids, that you can recombine and use as a basis for storytelling and creativity. Now they just want to drain adults with large disposable income who don't play with toys, but either "invest" or just want to build once, glue the set and the display it to show everyone how much "geek" they are. The problem started with Star Wars, when Lego discovered that licenses sold actually a lot more than original collections. Then we had MBAs smelling their own farts that emptied the bank with various failed projects, and they had to abandon their mission to survive.

Lego hasn't gone to shit. What has happened is that Lego earned the reputation of being a multi-generational toy. Combine that with themes and IP's from all around the world, and you've basically created a base for all kid brands to be a part of. Basically, Lego is the best toy on the planet that will probably never go out of fashion. If anything, you're just bored of the themes because you've had your fill. That's okay, there's nothing wrong with moving on.

Ironic. By failing to properly introduce the next generation of kids to the brand (gen alpha doesn't give a fuck about Lego), the brand will die with millenials/gen z. There won't be nostalgic adults to blow money on Lego sets in 20 years.

Almost every major new IP they Lego-ify is geared towards adults. Pokemon? All adult sets. LOTR? All adult sets. Zelda? All adult sets.

Perhaps I should have said all ages instead of kids. Still, my point still stands about brands wanting to be a part of Lego because it has the reputation of being a quality hardware product. That matters.

Quality is going down, the new Death Star is a piece of shit for the price they're asking, riddled with stickers and questionable design choices. Their new Star Wars sets are smaller and smaller and with worse designs than previous iterations. They are riding on that retarded price per parts ratio which means nothing when they can artificially inflate prices by including 1x1 bricks and you don't care about pieces either because they design display pieces meant to just sit on a shelf forever.

The best example of this is their new Christmas tree set, which is fucking 300 dollars and meant literally as a display piece. It's not a toy, it's a decoration.

Stickers suck, they should be abolished, but I'm talking specifically about the plastic (as well as color). I'm an 80's kid, so my own first hand experience of Lego has already shown me the huge improvements to its quality over time.
