you can't blame anybody for underestimating the demand for something as wild as K-Pop DH, it's not a mystery that there's not tons of merch available instantly.

as much as people hate on Funko, give 'em credit for getting stuff DONE. quickly.

How hard it can be to make funkos? half of the figure it's the head and they probably cost pennies to produce

they probably have good (fast) artists and a boss who can shout "you have 4 hours to design this character, I don't want to talk about it, make it happen." you... match the colors. you... call the factory and tell them we need the machines this afternoon. let's go people! Seriously? Their Pops are insanely simple, made of just two materials most times. Pvc for the bodies and vinyl for the heads. Design and sculpting can be done in a couple hours. They just need approvals from the IP owner. Something like super articulated figures is many times more complex, expensive to manufacture, and takes much longer. Fully designing an articulated figure will take a couple dozen hours from a skilled artist, then they have to do all the back and forth with tweaking the joints to make sure the engineering is good. Those figures have many more types of plastics than the simple Pops so production and tooling is longer and more costly. The biggest hurdle holding up a speedy production is probably getting retailers on board. Pops that are just like $10-12 can be an easy decision for any retailer to carry. A Mafex or Figma type figure will retail for at least 7x the cost of a Pop and is a much tougher sell to retailers to get them to order in the proper quantities for the manufacturer to make their money back.

Funko's 5-6 month turn around for Pops like these is already a super fast, almost unheard of turnaround time from design to being on shelves. The turnaround time for an articulated figure is longer than that since tooling is so much more complex and takes longer. Lots more things to get right too including part/joint tolerances, deco, assembly, etc.

They could partner with Barbie and make Made to Move figures which already have a variety of body types that can fit the Huntrix.

Then they need to make the head sculpt or use an existing sculpt, face paint, hair, and clothes and other plastic accessories.

SHF may at least do Rumi since they do Netflix things but maybe not all 3, most outfits looks like they could translate to a toy well. They’ll almost definitely get nendos, statues and various other ugly plush and plastic chibi forms.

Since there won't be any K-pop Demon Hunters fashion dolls out in time for Christmas, and the only official merch will be Funko Pops, does anyone have any suggestions for some DIY or chinkshit Kpop Demon Hunters toys that I could make or get for my nieces? I have a 3D printer (FDM) and I've ordered stuff from Ali Express but I don't know if they have anything good that I'd want to give to the kids in my life or not. It doesn't even have to be just the girls either, I'm pretty sure they'd be happy with the crow or the tiger characters too.

I don't think DIY fashion dolls would really be within my skillset to do, at least not with an unfathomable amount of work, and I'm sure dolls will be coming next year which I think they'd be a lot happier with than anything I could make myself even if I had the time and patience for it.

Little girls have gone nuts over it, that's what the big deal is. It's this year's Frozen and it's entertaining enough for adults and non-Kpop fans to get into it, and that's why it's a huge hit. It's got broad appeal despite having a very specific focus.
