Shit I have the same wish. I collect tons of different stuff but my autism makes it hard to display disparate unrelated toys and so stuff goes in boxes for awhile. I wish I could only collect 1 type of thing.

I bought up a quite a few of the basic peely when they started showing up at Ross because I wanted a bunch of bananas. I got one of each of the additional unique skins because I thought the character design was cute. At first the white jacket Peely was Top Banana, but then I got Emperor Potassius and now the suits are his enforcer goons.

For me, collecting only Optimus Prime in every iteration except the lame cartoon ones with odd proportions or big chins.

I guess Ghostbusters comes in second. It's usually the same 4 guys in different suits or gimmicks

I'd collect more figures of specific characters I like, but they get maybe 2 different figures at most.
I don't see the appeal of cheaper character products like those plastic standees. There is a baseline.

I collect Optimuses too, but it's not easy. When I buy toys, I try to instill them all as my own characters. I could try to project multiple Optimuses are a heavy trooper infantry for some leader, but I'm all too acquainted with his main character status

I only do it when army building, but the character needs to be a generic enemy.
It sucks many lines don't do the opposing teams at all, leaving the heroes in a void.
