I just can't get into Car Tuned. I know they're really popular right now but aesthetically they just don't do it for me. Even the JDM sets aren't really sparking my interest. I'm not really a truck guy and it feels like a majority of them are trucks, so there's that I suppose.

There's definitely a way to do SD/"toon" cars without them looking utterly ridiculous. Hot Wheels forgot that somewhere.

I saw some Muscle Machines at a thrift store once that were 9/11 commemorative models like pic related. They were kind of baffling.

looks like the greenlight one, quite nice! for vinyl top, you could either paint it like some do here

or you could use black masking tape, anything thin and adhesive that looks like a vinyl could work, for the wheels its abit harder, either you could get them 3d printed or get from another diecast with wheels you want, or if you dont mind exact accuracy just color the red rims over with a chrome pen

For Wheels you'd need to swap them but about roof, try vinyl tape. This is how I saved Escort. It had huge scratch on hood. So huge that it would need to repaint whole car. So I used vinyl Black tape to create sport stripe.

And this is how it looks now. Tape has nice glow. Not fully glossy but not totally matte. I'm very glad of the results.

The rest of the world hoveres suffers. Macthbox, Majorette and Hot Wheels are only wide distribution ones. Some countries are lucky to get Welly - they have sweet details for their budget.

Mini GT are scale models, they are fragile and to avoid damage things like mirrors or spoilers are sometimes made of almost rubber.

Hot Wheels or Johnny Lightning are pure toys, Mini GT are scale models, step below Inno64 or so.

better details quality, worse durability (?) quality can't find right word for it
you can throw hot wheels at wall and expect nothing more than a scratch. when you grab minigt wrong way you can damage mirrors or some bodykit details like front cannards, diffusers etc
they are for display only really

Here's a 3 way comparison of the same car.
A mainline Hot Wheels Ford GT from the pegs.
A 'Premium', pay extra HW
A Mini GT

The mainline isn't 100% stock...I colored the tail lights and a few other details, mostly on the tail. As sold those are just painted over with body color.

I've never been a "mopar guy", but Matchbox's '62 Plymouth Savoy is a favorite, especially since it's contender for the unofficial title of "first muscle car". It's got some interesting lines that harken back to the 50s and even the 40s while still embracing the futuristic look of the 60s.

The mainline releases are all plain color, but there are some cool race decos if you're willing to spend a bit more on premium.
