I just recently bought a makai kado Kiba figure. He's really big, at least 8 inches I'd say. He has a really cool sculpt, great paint, awesome accessories. The only downfall, in my opinion, is the hindered articulation. The legs are very limited especially. I am very much thinking about grabbing Garo, myself.

Another downside, and this is a pretty big one, is how pricey some of the figures get. Many are well over 10k yen each.

Yeah, the price point is rough, so i'm trying to grab quality ones, especially in the articulation area. Lost Shine and Crow are what i'm currently pondering over, though I'm curious about Kokaku Jushin Garo.

Was Garo Shou any good for that matter?

Except for the part where the official romanizations of their names always go with arabic numerals for the names. Even the fucking logos for Taisen GP and Rider 4's miniseries use them so this should have never been an issue in the first fucking place.

Which one was it?

And usually that's not a bad sign for a shoulder, in my experience the joint is just as tight as ever but at some point it might have gotten some moisture trapped inside. Unless it starts to become loose later you don't have anything to worry about, and even then there's the floor polish method.

Apply a tiny bit of Shock Oil (the weakest grade you can find on eBay; can't remember what was recommended but I'm sure somebody can inform) inside whatever joint that's squeaky. The squeakiness means that either not enough lubricant is applied inside the joint, or the joints are being strained a bit because one part is too big for the other.

It might not be an actual problem, but the last thing you'd want to do is snap an exclusive Ultra-act given their bad aftermarket.

what are you talking about? yamiterasu was the best garo series.
ryuuga is fun, the black armor is pure sex, the drama is gutwrenching at times, armorless fights are awesome. the only real downside is the lack of armored scenes.
raiga's series was utter shit however. same goes for goldstorm.

You mean Renewal/2.0? The original figure never really got a reissue iirc.

Original figure has shittier sculpt, articulation, and quality, isn't in-scale with modern Ultra-acts. He does have the Emerium Ray effect though, and his shooting Slugger effect (the only good things about the figure, really.)
There's really no reason to bother getting the original, unless you just want the effect parts.

Even the show mishandled its main gimmick. How often did we actually see the mix-and-match gimmick used effectively? The whole "combos are dangerous" thing was thrown out the window quickly, and I'm pretty sure he used nothing but Tatoba and Ratoratah in the last ten episodes or so. I mean, I get they didn't use Gatakiriba more than once because they episode decimated their budget, but they could have easily used the individual parts or gave it other abilities.

Hard color to capture I would imagine. People nkt setting their camera up or PSing the hell out of their photos to make them look "better" to the eye is most likely what you are seeing happen.

It is the light source. Rider 3's coloration in the film is all over the place thanks to the shade of teal they used for the suit. In some shots, especially the grainy, retro-style teaser for the film it's a darker green, and in others it looks more like a light blue. It looks like the figure's paint job was based on the early promotional materials.

The downsides are only really the somewhat limited head movement...mostly from the design not the actual joints.

Articulation is what you would expect otherwise.

The Sakurajima Figuarts is great though. The design itself was used only briefly in the show, for a few episodes after Hongo returned in episode 40. It's essentially the same suit as his original from the first 13, but with a darker coloration.

Yeah. There's also his Double Rider costume which came along shortly after and is what's used in all of his modern appearances. It's got a brighter shade of green with two silver stripes along the sides, silver gloves, and silver boots.

I got a Skyrider RAH from Mandarake. Might not be the best example, since mine was never taken out of the box before and is eight years old, but the synthetic leather they used for parts of the suit have almost turned to dust and would break if I ever got rough with them.

The leather that was under one of his gauntlets straight up tore off when I tried to change his hands, though luckily I can hide that.

I don't know how the new ones are, but yeah, if anyone out there wants to get one of the older ones just be delicate and use lady hands for any synthetic leather parts. Hamhands would destroy them.

There's an original release and a renewal yeah. The original has the general proportion issues a lot of early Ultra-Acts did, and the renewal fixes a lot of that, including the details, and comes with a lot more accessories like an alternate, smaller chest plate for cross armed poses.

Their translations are often inaccurate, and they tend to leave things untranslated and include honorifics (which a lot of people don't like).

They're not as bad as pic related anymore thankfully, but there are better subbing groups out there.

No sub group is perfect. T-N leave too much untranslated with notes, don't have the best quality and the effects can annoy some people.
Others like Over-Time translate TOO much, changing things to be overly Westernized, awkwardly directly translating character/mecha/prop etc names (Ninja Ichibantou = Ninja #1 Sword for example) or doing things that are just plain unneeded. (Things come to mind like changing the title of Dekaranger #1 that's called "Fireball Newcomer" _in actual English already_ and changing it into "Fireball Newbie" for no reason.)

No group translates every single word into the exact equivalent English because languages don't work that way. The varying groups all get the general point across in their own way, and that's what matters. All groups have different pros and cons. All people have different tastes. Who cares if someone else uses a group you don't?

I just got this guy in today, my first Figuart and I'm completely blown away. The red is perfectly smooth and glossy while the black has an almost softer feel to the plastic. His musculature in the arms and legs is modeled perfectly.
God damn, I'm in love. I have zero complaints, all of the paint apps are perfect. Even the small details on the belt are clear.

Now I just need too work on my posing.

I've heard good things but it's a pretty old figure and most from that time have kinda fucked up proportions compared to the newer stuff. If you're looking for quality releases though, most of the modern lines like the Drive, Gaim, and Blade Figuarts are all pretty damn high quality.

There's also this beautiful motherfucker from the same set as renewal Kuuga.

Wasn't that because it wasn't initially going to be attached to the kamen rider brand? I remember reading this somewhere but I can't find an actual source for it.

I still really like how they manage to stay consistent with gloss levels as they were on the actual suits. Like, Proto-Drive's armor was matte black, but the Drive undersuits were all this glossy latex-looking stuff. Meanwhile, Kugga's armor was glossy, but his undersuit was matte spandex.

There are rumors Hibiki was supposed to be a revival of another Ishinomori series but that's not the case. As far as I'm aware the show's producer just wanted to do something different. His original concept for the show was a Kuuga retread that shifted into the Hibiki we know now.

There are two Shadowmoon releases, the original, and a renewal. Original Shadowmoon was pretty much perfect but the new one has slightly more accurate proportions. Original is left, renewal is right.

Zyuranger did really well in Asia, actually the reason why Power Rangers decided that was the one to take the costumes from. The subplot with green ranger was way more fucking gripping than locker room drama.

I grew up on Zyuranger before Power Ranger came along, that was one of the most popular series. The only other sentai I like more than it was Jetman (also red Jetman is red Zyuranger).

I have both and they're some of the best SIC Takeya has done. I almost wish he'd go back and redo Black and Black RX so that they're individual fully articulated sculpts instead of take-apart-replace armors on the same basic body (as amazing as the sculpting and planning is for that old SIC).

Agito is fantastic. There's no contest between the renewal and the original. Agito even has a completely unqiue sculpt compared to Kuuga. Shins, thighs, and arms are all different despite being possible clone pieces. G3-X is pretty great too but he's a tad dated and looks out of scale next to the renewal. Honestly though he's pretty cheap and he comes with a ton of accessories. It's up to you I guess.

And, then there's Gills. Probably one of the best aged figures despite his tiny head.

Except that's wrong. Kuuga's armor wasn't glossy and had more of a matte look to it in most shots and actually glossy in others. It wasn't until Decade where they started using the glossy armor full-time.

Except that's wrong. Kuuga's armor was meant to have a sheen to it like shiny metal armor, and it did in a number of scenes. This was dampened by the use of soft armor sets in stunt heavy scenes that were a dull color by the nature of the material.

Kuuga always had a shine to its chest and shoulders. In some cases for stunt work a more flexible chest piece is used that doesn't have the shinyness.
I took a couple reference screenshots just because. If you look closely though his forearm armor is a different material too.
