Basically jack was a mercenary hired by the crime master to do jobs and extend his influence, supposedly he killed everyone who wore the pumkin before him because he didn't think they were hardcore enough.
This is, he wasn't actually hired, when he was a troubled kid he went trick or treating, to him haloween was the time he felt he could be the freak he was born to be and not be ostracized for it. Anyway, he went to the wrong house and got gassed, this is where he met the crimemaster for real, who raised him since his youth. treating him right, and cultivating him into his personal bodygaurd and assassin. So by the time he meets corporal Thompson, he's been raised by the guy into his adulthood.
He likes to cut folks heads open and put candles int them after he hollows them out as his calling card, hence he took the name, and the suit, of jack o lanturn.
He becomes Venom's nemesis after he stuck a live grenade in his mouth. He's actually kinda interesting when you see his interactions with people, between his fucked up life and his face getting blown the fuck off, he has to take drugs to not go schitzo.
