So I'm a casual toy collector, I collect mostly xenomorphs.

But with starwars fever running rampant, I think I caught it.

What should I be getting into?
What brands are best quality for dollar?

I keep hearing about black series and stuff and I have no idea what any of it is about.

Anyone wanna post suggestions and specs for good figs?

Depends really. Don't ask to be spoonfed and look up some of the stuff yourself. Lurk /toy/ or look up various preorders. It's all dependent on what you want.

On a budget, and don't mind some sloppy paint or iffy headsculpts? Prefer cloth for robes and not plastic? Black Series might be for you.

Want a higher level of detail, don't mind a higher price or plastic robes? Look into the SH Figurats. It's really up to you, there's a ton of options

Black Series are 3.75" and 6" line of figures by Hasbro that are aimed more at collectors (though at the end of the day they're still kid's toys). The line has a greater emphasis on the 6" figures right now, you can see reviews of them below (or just search on youtube if you want to see them in action):

Not looking to get spoonfed. Just for opinions on what's good and what's not. After seeing the disaster that was Jurassic world figures I wasent sure if quality was still the same.
I have some old 30th anniversary hasbro figures that I love (kaleesh Grievous, kasyyyk trooper with movable visor) in the 3'75 scale. I'm just not sure if that's a series that's still being done, or if its called something else now.

Overall body sculpt and paint job is still significantly better, articulation is too. The face isn't perfect, no, but Maul's face is (even though you'll point out the indents because you're stupid) and many other characters are very close to it. Or, rather, again, much closer than the black series.

these are the good black series figures, obi wan is great for a basic jedi custom if you want, easy to swap heads, and unless it's a black you want, he's alright.

Finn is actually pretty good, and that jacket hides his torso well enough that you can even carve out some forward motion room for a more natural gun holding position.

IG88 has double jointed knees, TRULY, but the upper part is less obvious, and also somewhat difficult to get un stuck, if it's resistant, do the heat/cold trick to get the joint freed up.

and the best ones here are in monochrome.

I saw the latest 3.75 Black Series Vader and he has that angle cut arm joint. If the rest are like that I'm out for those. Luke looks like the last released Jedi luke with his tiny hands that swivel and hinge but different directions each side. I've only seen Luke, Vader and Chewie of this line. Regardless to her quality I'll most likely try to find Phasma 'cause reasons.

Between magic the gathering and xenomorph collection, this is not the wrong hobby for me, just one that has minimal disposable income after my other hobby's. $5 dollar per figure is pretty affordable.

At a convention and they all luke the same. That's what good quality control does: one figure should luke identical to the next so everyone is Toby McGuire.

Also everyone who said they can't see the doteam are blind or lying. You can see it through the plastic window even.
