Anyway, I've been thinking about next year's "pair-theming" in regard to set design.
What I mean is that this year we've seen a kind of "pairing up" of the Toa based on weapon molds and general set aesthetic:
>Lewa and Gali share the same ax-mold in complementing colors; Lewa has silver armor and gunmetal blades, Gali has gunmetal armor and silver blades
>Both Lewa and Gali have long, slender builds and non-main-color chestpieces

>Tahu and Kopaka share the same sword mold
>Both Tahu and Kopaka have tall, armored builds and gold chestpieces

>Pohatu and Onua are the odd-one-out manlets
>Unique weapon molds
>main-color-chestpieces

The Uniters also kinda have that going on, but now it's respective of their weaponry and digimon
>Lewa and Tahu have dool-weld swords
>Their Affinity Animals are volant and both have Two-Winged Angel Burst Modes

>Gali and Pohatu are armed with Staves of Shitwrecking and have Armament Upgrade creatures (Gali gets Dakka shoulders, Pohatu gets, like, a stinger I guess?)

>Kopaka and Onua get guns, and literally share the same creature (which gives them extra armor.

Shit...now I can't stop thinking about how this shit fits together...

Here's how it works:
>Lewa's weapons use a tan low-friction pin, rather than a blue one, allowing the blades to spin freely around the axis of the pin.
>Blade 1 has a higher mass than blade 2, and will therefore have a higher inertia than blade 2 when in motion
>As the torso-action accelerates the entire assembly forward, then stops, blade 1's higher inertia carries it forward, causing the entire rig to spin.
>this is fucking AWESOME in action.

I mean, there are a couple of caveats:
>Caveat the First
The Rahkshi-based body doesn't have as much leverage as Lewa's final build will (the shoulders ain't as wide), resulting in less force transferred to the blades
>Caveat the Second
I'm using Lewa/Tahu's backup swords, which are lighter than the Uniters' crystal blades.
This means that there's disparate inertia within the system.

Both of these together mean that it's harder to achieve the "swingaling" feature, but it's still VERY much there.
I fucking love it when Bionicle sets use simple action features like this that utilize elegant kinetics rather than needlessly complicated technic builds just for the sake of "muh tekneek."

I want to like Pohatu but his three shades of brown (mask + torso + staff) is really killing it for me.

Looks like Gali has the 4m shells in both her new blue as well as trans dark blue, so that's nice, much more usable than 5m.

Also nice to have the new blade piece in a solid color.

Keep in mind that these new images seem to be just cropped from the retailer catalog that we already got leaks of, including some errors like Lewa's blade on Pohatu's rock (see >>5271378).
These are most likely still not the final sets.

Yeah we spotted them on Ikir, they look like they will be super useful if you want to give functions to MoCs and stuff, one thing we can't see though is where the hell the activator is and what its going to look like. But it does seem like the creatures have different functions, Ketar's arms move like the master's arms do, Ikir's wings flap, etc.

When else have we seen dual-injected molding on Toa masks? When the Toa are powerless.
Consider the following:

There're a few reasons this could work
>lack of elemental powers puts the Toa at a disadvantage, and mirrors the Hordika arc without giving us godawful sets
>focus on mask-mastering mirrors the most-advertised aspects of the Metru arc
>If the Toa need creatures to have elemental powers, then it boosts sales. Gotta buy both if you want the REAL Toa, kids!

and that's that. Pretty much speculation at this point.

Lychir confirmed Kopaka's blade hilts are silver instead of gold, that should mean that the other color changes in the poster, like Onua's torso or Lewa's blades and crystal add-ons, should reflect the final sets.

The only reason the transparent crystal blade/armor bits appear tr. lime green is because they use a silver base texture with the elemental coloring "painted" on.

Kopaka's colors are well distributed when he's combined with Melum. Just remove the gold add-ons when he's on his own and he looks good to go.

I agree with Pohatu, it's that the colors are distributed horribly (in chunks), and that reddish brown on his staff has to go. If trans neon green was limited to his bones and some silver was changed to dark brown or dark orange (the new Star Wars Ultrabuilds might help), he'd look a lot better.

That's regular trans yellow. Gali's eyes are trans FLOURESCENT yellow, which means it glows under black light. The only other piece made in this color was the yellow misprint kaukau.

Current CCBS parts are a little better than the old ball joints so will probably last longer, and we also have new friction connectors. Regardless a bit of heresy (a dab of glue inside the socket) will renew the parts tightness.

As for the 'simple yet creative' angle, I generally try to get my MOCs to fit in with the official sets - more complex, yet not too much bigger or using too many 'off the wall' building techniques, as it were. I think the most complicated Bionicle figure I've built from CCBS is probably my centaur, but if you look at the skeleton (see pic) he isn't overtly complicated either.

That's a pretty cool design, but I wish it kept those Mctoran arms. They're kind of crucial to the Matoran/Tohunga look, if you ask me. I'll have to fuck around with the design and see if I can integrate them in a way that doesnt look stupid

The Toa and Creatures use a universally-compatible "docking system," (maresee bow coo, based Frogland) so the combo models are 100% mix-and-match.
As it fucking should be.

But yeah, it's kinda weird how we haven't gotten more solid leaks yet. I guess TLG was either kinda loose with the 2015 leaks to build hype, or cracking down harder on 2016 leaks.

Personally I would go with super glue since it is brittle and thus can be removed. Plastic glue or cement would be more likely just to slightly warp the part and not necessarily make it tighter.

They're also not villains.
Just robots made from Matoran carcasses (kind of a reverse Boxxor situation) controlled by face-slugs whose purpose was to cleanse Mata Nui's face of foliage and shit.
The Bohrok-Kal were closer to villains, but still technically they were in the right.
In fact, we didn't even get real canister villains until 2006.

So. I've been working on this for a bit. So far, the torso is "done", and I'm working on the limbs now, making them a bit bigger/bulkier. My main concern is with the bone CCBS bits, and transferring them into a slightly larger size. Thoughts?

Another small issue I'm having, that I'm sure I can fix but just not sure how, is that the pegs where the legs would go on are further back that I want them to be. If I do custom make "bones" for this, I'll have to figure out a way to make this gap a bit less obvious.

Wow, never thought I'd live to see the day.

Anyway I like it, especially the torso. Those pistons look great, how'd you get them there?

I will say though that the torso seems longer now, and so you either need to shorten it or lengthen the legs - otherwise it just looks way to disproportionate.

Lastly, that shield is pretty nice. Could use something on the front though (maybe mounted to that dark tan stud axle) to make it a bit more solid.

Connection is a bit tight, but the ribcage piece on top helps push everything together just right. I do plan on making the limbs bigger, issue is currently that I'm trying to work on a way to simulate the "Bone" CCBS limbs, but at a slightly bigger scale. So far, nothing really looks good. I might dig for parts and see if I can find something to slap on the shield, thanks for the suggestion.

90 seconds a show was kinda harmful once it actually became narrative focus. 'The Legend' was probably the best one because it was just a sorta worldbuilding lore video, the episodes where events actually took place and story progressed suffered from the 90 second runtime. Had they had maybe 5 minutes per episode, and even like, three voice actors, I feel it could have been a LOT better.

It's that I keep picturing him as some Grievous-tier titan but I fear that Lego is afraid to do something that big for their IP. It took freaking Star Wars, which always sells no matter what, for Lego to step out of the comfort zone and try making real Titans again.

So I fear that The Destroyer is going to be just slightly bigger than The Hunter, maybe with some big weapon pushing his price up like it happened to Chi Fluminox. It would make no sense to make another set just for that, but I wouldn't put it past them.

It's a Glatorian neck, all you have to do is replace it with a ball joint (the newer variant with the hole going all through), add a bone (a tr light blue one maybe?) and mount the lower arm+hand+weapon build on it. Bam, you just added another articulation point and some color to your Kopaka's arms.

I think it's too early for the Mask of Ultimate Power to come out, if it did the 2017 story would be pointless.

I still think Umarak the Destroyer is going to include a recolor of the Mask of Control, or a larger and/or demonic form to fit a Titan figure.

I agree with the mask looking nice. The axle connection looks nicer than Piraka spines did. Why did he only have one hand? There was room for another one, even if it couldn't do much. He's also lacking any proper chest armour.
