Besides, the snapfit kits that are meant for kids always look like shit OOB, so more adult builders also buy them because Bandai's quality plastic never dissapoints. Even if the build isn't spectacular, if you can tune it well the product will always look nice.
Tamiya doesn't compete with them not because of their scale as a company, but because of their products. Kotobukiya in the earlier years as a plamo maker didn't because of how small it was, but over the years, most people have gotten to like them because their plastic quality improved a lot, and it offered things Bandai wouldn't make, but definetly could.
An example of this is the Lavaetin. Bandai has the Metal Build of it, which is a really expensive figure, yet it sure is spectacular, but Kotobukiya has the plamo in a great quality plastic, as well as being a kit and much cheaper than the MB.
