Well, the sequel, that is. I just count it as one big whole, since it's not like it's an alternate story. But yeah, as a whole, Tokyo Ghoul is just fine.
What you might be referring to is the attention paid to the anime? In which case you are sort of correct. The Root A anime has ended (thankfully), so focus on that is slowly dying out, but there will be a season 3.
The anime, in the long run, isn't really that important. It's a pretty shitty adaptation, pretty much a typical Studio Pierrot low-quality/high profit cashgrab, but the manga is doing just fine on its own.
More than just occasionally, its volumes hit the top 3 sales, and quite often, they're top 5.
