This reminds me how I once bought some shitty custom thing with Mata-torso and shitty limbs just because it had movie Kraahkan on the picture. It cost literally nothing.

Then it arrived and it had black Kakama instead. I contacted the person, and she was like "Oh, I swapped the masks later because the other one didn't fit properly".

To this day I'm salty.

There are three primary groups, villager, rahi and hybrids
Each one has a subgroup and all that stuff, but the gist of it is
The toa are powered up villagers
Skull basher and umarak are examples of hybrids
Skull slicer, warrior and grinder are necroforms, or compiled bones of villagers that make a larger being
Skull Scorpio, skull spiders, the beasts and the creatures are all rahi

That is pretty cool already. I also have one of these HF gun parts, but never found a good way to use it. I always tried to build a sound gun or sonic gun or whatever, but your solution seems to be a better one.

Glad you guys like it! Definitely gonna try adding a bayonet to it (one of the first things I considered at the beginning of the design process was making the bottom edge of the gun out of a skellysword).

No. The eyes are meant to be put in the empty slot behind that. The Vahki's fuckhuge transparent brain stalks had the eyes in them, and roodaka uses trans orange exoforce robot hands as eyes.

Krekka's the exception to this patern, and he looks like shit because of it.

This is the product of some old school Slizer/Roboriders parts, what little CCBS stuff I have in my dorm, and a strong desire to not do my homework.

>Ryak was a simple man. He lived alone, worked in the mines around several island chains. Once the war reached his homelands, however, he and the rest of the miners found themselves unemployed, their jobs taken by child Matoran slaves. The warlords started to take over the towns around his home. None of the Toa ever showed up, so he took matters into his own hands. It's still undocumented what happened, but many warlords died when it was over, killed and tortured by the freed child soldiers. He soon hopped a boar and began his travels around the world. Armed only with a mining hammer and nothing to lose, Ryak travels the world in search of nothing. He moves as a specter would, and disappears just as easily.

Yeah, the bio sucks. I had gotten a lot of old Technic/Slizer pieces and tried making a torso out of it. All things it came out okay, but due to the use of the Mata head, he's only got a swivel neck. Hadn't figured out how to add a ball jointed head without using the foot on the chest and giving him a hunchback.

Yeah, I'm not too proud of those Pohatu arms. The legs I'm cool with, since I wanted it to kind of look like he was wearing pants, but I didn't want to be overly reliant on CCBS for his limbs.

Here's a close up of the back (and incidental hammer storage thanks to the Roboriders "torso"). You can see some of the compromises I made here thanks to my limited piece count - his swivel head and travesty of a hip assembly, for example.

IIRC you can lock them onto something with two axles and a couple of liftarms in a box configuration. That or you can wedge something into the hole. You won't be able to make an accurate MNOG pump without some heresy, though.

After I did the base coat, I repeatedly drybrushed and washed, drybrushed and washed, and eventually the paint built up the texture of its own accord.

That's why it actually looks "old." The texture was "grown," not made.

They were (sans Metru brown, which was thankfully discontinued), but the problem is that the Toa Metru didn't have any secondary contrasting colors. You can say it was to make them look "industrial", but they looked extremely bland.

Boring as they were, the Visorak at least brought bright colors back as secondary colors.

That color and the gold on the Nike Takanuva shoes may or may not have made me throw up on Christmas 2003. I started getting sick when I unwrapped either the shoes or Ahkmou, and unwrapping the other made it worse. Aaaaaand I barfed. Afterwards I got nauseous whenever I looked down at my shoes.

Inherently, nothing. They were just the main build for the official sets for almost half of Bionicle Gen1's runtime. I think they get a bad rap because of that. In my opinion, I think they're fine for those getting into MOCing, and those who aren't good enough to make everything custom and creative, like me.

Instead I'll use your post as a starting point to explain why CCBS has finally caught up, making your point moot.

The 2016 sets have a torso that is exactly as tall the Inika torso, except

>it's more customizeable
>allows for better Technic integration
>allows for back armor
>has adjustable shoulder width (and is not bound with the 11 modules of the Inika torso
>you can mount a gearbox on it
>it has a ROTATING waist

And don't forget the torso the new SW sets have, which is identical to the Toa torso except

> it's a single block (so no rotating waist)
>doesn't have any neck joints (which does avoid the Pohatu Dick Syndrome and other cases of AEB- Annoying Exposed Balls)

And CCBS limbs are MUCH more customizeable than 2004-onwards limbs ever were, so no point explaining this.

2016 has yet to officially start and CCBS's last few shortcomings are getting solved already. It's its biggest year since 2012 (everything was going fine before 2013 and 2014 froze everything).

The little touch of color from the spines really does add a lot.
Try looking at the thumbnail rather than the enlarged picture and notice where your eye tends to land; odds are, it's gonna be on the spiny one.

A huge mistake a lot of people make when posting mocs and such is posting these big fuckwalloping pictures. Massive-ass pictures spread shit out way too much, making it way harder to get an overall impression of the build. Posting medium-size pics is a much better way to go.

Not really criticizing, your post just made me think of it.

I'd say no spines.

My reeasoning being is taht the spines draw the eye to the calf which is actually pretty big in comparison to the thigh and that makes the build look oddly proportioned. But you don't really notice unless you really look on the build without the spines because your eye isn't instantly drawn to it.

Is this a rule of photography? Because, fuckwalloping images can always be zoomed out or resized to get a view of the whole thing, but a lowres image can never be upscaled back to full resolution in order to see the details.

But they've always shown up at Toys R Us by December. 2015's were showing up as early as November, and at Target as well. On top of that, there's always at least one person who gets them weeks earlier, so we actually get to see them in-hand first.

Ekimu the Mask Maker better look badass.

I hope he actually looks like an upscaled version of his 2015 form, and not a Tahu with the Mask of Creation slapped on.

I wonder if he wears the Mask of Creation we have now or maybe an updated version that is compatible with the Creature heads. I certainly wouldn't mind a new mask, though I wouldn't be keen on yet another mask with the crystal motif on its top.
The Uniter torso in trans light blue with gold and silver runes would be cool.

If it's just another MoCr, they probably just blend some trans-blue on it, or cut away the prongs entirely IF Ekimu has to be compatible with creatures or beasts. But I actually doubt that. If they go as far as to bring Ekimu back as a Toa, they really should go and make him be capable of bitch-slapping all other Toa with his giant dick, without some pussy-ass creatures.

Well as it turns out I actually don't have enough spines for both shins and all of the fingers on the hands. Seeing as how the fingers are gonna get priority, for the time being I'll have to go without the spines on the shins til I either order more or decide to leave them off for good. They're a surefire way to get the point across that a bionicle is a fembot. It's not like people will notice at a glance that your customized toy has wide hips/narrow shoulders or any other obscure (and often poorly executed) details.
Imo, the only other thing that gets the message across is posing. A good pose is a powerful visual tool.
Apart from that, I like tits on mocs because the people who are vocal about their distaste are most often being obnoxious about it and deserve to be dismayed.
Unless you call them impractical because robots have no use for gender characteristics, in which case I agree. But if they hadn't then the kids would feel more alienated and the product wouldn't sell as well.

Here's an INCREDIBLY basic Ekimu moc. It uses a custom torso which, while not very secure, allows for more posability in the shoulders. At any rate, I hope the official one look a lot better than mine.

Like the Breakout chest? Sadly no. However there's a gunmetal Chima chest with gold and blue deco that's currently covering it. Kopaka's chest plate works the best, tho - it's base color is gold and it's deco is blue.

It's impossible, since the 2016 sets have been finalized months before the Mask Making Contest. Designers right now are probably working on the 2017 sets.

I still want something cool for Umarak the Destroyer though, like a Mask of Control that is more faithful to the animated version. The gold one just doesn't scream "main villain" enough for me.

I have a theory that this year we're going to see a revamped Mask of Creation and revamped Mask of Control with Umarak the Destroyer and Toa Ekimu respectively. It makes sense, considering Ekimu is remaking all the Toa's gear, and Makuta is also a mask maker and would presumably be able to Darth Vader the shit out of Umarak if he got pwnt by the Toa.

He can keep them. Much of this wave is passable. The most worthwhile set is Umarak, and that's mostly for the swamp-thing/deerman/treeman undead hunter concept and the MoCtrl, though the mask looks nothing like the gorgeous one from the webisodes and Umarak himself is a gappy clusterfuck.

Speaking of the MoCtrl, something tells me the first wave of '15 was so successful, they decided to restructure the story plan so as to build up towards a larger arc, hence why the MoCtrl will be present in the first wave of '16. The story team is making room for future stuff. I expect the Destroyer to have either the MoUP or some other mask that'll advance the plot. Maybe he'll become THE DESTROYER by merging the MoCr and MoCtrl into the Mask of Control over Creation. Hopefully he'll then use his power to usher in a new era of brutality and heavy metal. Imagine if Bionicle took place in the world of Brutal Legend. It's not like the designers haven't been inspired by the game.

The "Unity piece" works with CCBS but in the same way as G1 armor.

I'm a big CCBSfag (pic related) but I do think that a fusion of CCBS and technic is a great way to capture the 'classic' Bionicle look.

Not that I thought that there was anything wrong with 2015 at all, but I think allowing more detail and function is a step in the right direction for G2.

There really is no pleasing people is there? It doesn't help that some people like DV shill the fuck out of the CCBS system and hate on the Bionicle aesthetic (and Brutaka what the fuck is wrong with this guy), and because of their popularity, a lot of people form opinions that match them.

Though its clear people here dislike the sets for various reasons, I'm still completely sold on them and just wish that we had gotten all these new pieces sooner so that we could have avoided all this aesthetics butthurt.

I didn't try yet, but it would only work with a six shooter, because the minifig shooter can only shoot studs that aren't hollow. For example: you can shoot 1x1x1 bricks with a normal stud, but not a 1x1x1 round brick, because of the hole in the stud on top.

Anything that can be two pieces would be better as two pieces, this is no different. The thing that bothers me is that from a design standpoint there is no reason it couldnt have been two pieces, even though I think the piece looks pretty good.

I agree with you on that one. Getting the sets early isn't special treatment. It's a marketing decision. It makes sense that LEGO'd send sets to fansites early in order for the reviews to be posted just as the sets become available.
What constitutes special treatment is things that other sites aren't receiving. Things like crateloads of free sets, extra early free new sets, paid air tickets to shows and cons, VIP "briefings" and time with the designers, prototype pieces etc.
