Ok me and my FIANCE just finished decorating the apartment all Christmas-like, and I'm done reading through all the posts I missed over the past couple days.
I've decided after seeing people's concerns to go ahead with doing backup Santas.
The way this will work, over the next few days I will contact everyone who mentioned wanting to be a backup Santa to me (if you want to join in and haven't sent an email about it just email me at
[email protected]) to make sure they are still interested. If by January 2nd you have not received your gift, email me. I will attempt to contact your Santa and if they do not respond in one week or cannot provide proof of shipping, I will add them to the grinch list to be sent to the organizer next year. Your info will go to a backup Santa and I will never check the secretsanta email after that. You may get a gift from your backup Santa, you may not. They will be no minimum price limit. There will be no communication with me as an intermediary. They will send your backup present when they can.
I was apprehensive about this plan because I feel there will be greedy people who try to exploit the system (and figure out a way to fool me I haven't thought of preventing) and there might still be someone who doesn't get a gift after two chances and will be doubly disappointed. However, if it makes one more person happy at the expense of a couple more threads of salt, I can deal with it.
