>>5372629>>5369933Thanks!
>>5376424I'm not the guy you've been arguing with, but I'll chime in on what he's saying.
Too many times on these collection threads, you'll have people who won't offer critiques, but harsh criticism. Both of these things are based on someone's opinion, but the difference is that critique offers advice on how to improve, but the harsh criticism is only made to put someone else down.
For example, I could look at
>>5372835 and say something like "Hah, you must be a poorfag. Only using shitty Detolfs huh? Good luck with all that rattling. Cheap Ikea shit, lol". That's criticism. I'm basically making fun of the other guy, insulting him, and making no effort whatsoever to offer my opinion on how to actually IMPROVE his display.
However, I could also say "I think those are way too many Detolfs and it just doesn't look that good to me. I'd probably only keep 2 of the Detolfs and use other shelving for the rest of the figures". See, THIS is critique. I'm not putting the guy down, I'm offering MY opinion as well as how I think it could improve. However, if I'm being totally honest, I think having 8 Detolfs across the wall like that looks fucking cool. I wish my room could accommodate something like that...
So do you see the difference between critique and harsh criticism? Going around saying "Lol, shit taste!" is bound to ruffle a few feathers; even here on 4chan. I know a lot of people like to use the excuse that "This is 4chan, grow some balls", but that's a cop out. This place isn't nearly as bad as its reputation would lead most people to believe.
And if it matters any, I posted my own display in the thread a while ago. It's
>>5369822 >>5369826. I used to post in collection threads a lot, but I stopped since I'd basically NEVER get any critique, and only vague criticism for apparently "flaunting" my collection and rubbing it in people's faces (whatever that means).
