Buildings in this scale aren't supposed to be colored that much. From the distance this scale represents, they would look like a jumble of gray rectangles like they are.
I think what's really missing are the shadows and darker buildings with tinted windows that appear black from a distance.
It's very hard to light something this small properly, so you have to fake the shadowing with paint.
