Granted, the older MLs from Toy Biz were very high grade stuff. complex paint apps, a shit ton of articulation, amazing sculpts, etc, but they were still only kids toys.
Even though toys like these had many layers of paint, were mostly fully painted, made out of close to a hundred molded pieces, and had solid quality control, they could be priced so low because they were mass marketed. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions sold, instead of tens of thousands. Still, as DCDirect is proving and McFarlane has shown, the cost isn't significantly higher for collector grade toys to be super articulated, but you're going to ignore all this, because somehow there's some ethereal quality that justifies those 2-4x prices.
And no, cutting away at the sculpt to make them more poseable doesn't cost more money.
But please, keep proving why they can charge as much as they do, so that guy can understand why they'll continue to overcharge their fanbase.
