My issue with the beasts and Ekimu (and with last year's summer wave) is that they really should be $20 sets. That would give them more bulk, better piece selection/builds, and possibly better functions. with only 5 sets per wave, they should be $20

The narration in those character videos seriously sounds like they just cut the relevant voice clips out of some longer scene. Especially "That is Umarak".
Also, I really hope that the lack of voice acting in these videos doesn't mean they're doing the "one voice fits them all" thing again. Almost 90 minutes of that would be way too much.

Nah those are clearly Toa heads in Trans neon green. The jaws attach under the head in the same way we've gotten horned characters- at the axis of the eye stalk. They'll also be hinged using the same old pair of pieces that the Shadow traps use, so you'll be able to open and close the jaw seperate of knocking on the jaw to remove the mask.

I'll moc up a concept later, since abusing the eye stalk knock mask off function is something Lego loves.

It was a cool part, but like so many other G1 parts it was never reworked with thicker support.
Speaking of which, G1 bones came in a shitload of colors. Why is G2 stuck with black, gray and the occasional trans bone? Even Hero Factory threw us a colored bone every now and then.

T.b.h. the gearbox is garbage so I initially just locked it, but then the the second issue showed up: the way the unity piece is attached to the main skeleton allows for too much wiggle room and the beast head won't stay in one place on potato's mask.

Fewer shells is a good thing IMO, those things look awful in any color besides trans and metallic colors, I prefer a technic build any day, especially when it gives nice thin looking limbs like that since I'm personally not a fan of bulky sets.

Using less plastic in the legs also allows Lego to put that mass elsewhere, in this case it gives all the beasts non-human heads as well as poseable fingers on all of them.

I like the new beast heads, Umarak is decent and some of the new pieces are neat. The new jagged armor piece is messy garbage like the general build of all the beasts. Looks like brain attack all over again where they tried to shoehorn functions (i.e. scarox and bruizer).

2016 is beginner moc-tier garbage.
I can say that with complete confidence as I had tried Lewa's legs/arms, a variation of Kopaka and Pohatu's arms, and all three of the beasts' hands AND legs all myself in the past several years and deemed them all too shitty to be used in a moc.
They're trying to be innovative, but it comes off extremely ugly.
No excuse for the colors, either. Fucking gross.
Whose idea as it to blend trans neon green with every mask (minus Lava Beast and Ekimu's Umarak mask)? It limits mocing use to literally one possible coherent colorscheme for each blended mask.

The jaw is so much larger than the mask that even if it was poseable, all you would be able to do is give them all a massive underbite.
Also, it almost looks like they attach through the mask, like the Piraka heads or the infamous Garai.
Take a look, that axle is a light gray 5m. That leaves space for two .5m connections.
Probably not though, since it looks like Quake's jaw was squeezed so part of the axle is sticking out, leading me to believe those two .5m spots are empty, leaving room for the jaw to slide sideways like a cow chewing. Further proving whoever designed these things is fucking retarded.

Same. I was into Bionicle as a kid but I didn't have a collector mindset so quite a bit of sets got by me. I've been scooping up everything about G2 so far. Plan to own every set by the time it's all said and done.

Speaking of that, does it look like they're moving towards a 2017 end game or do you think we'll get a few more years out of it? They seem to be selling well. Although with the progression of the story, a 2017 end game would be fitting and probably well done. I know the lore isn't a fraction of G1 lore, but I'd hate to see it overstay its welcome and become the clusterfuck that G1 indeed was.

Yo. I just got the new Lewa. redid the arms and used a couple of the yellow shells since . trying to figure out what to do to the legs to make them less awkward-looking. The masks as pieces were dumb, but I have a soft spot for the Sanok, Kadin and Iden.

I was trying to say that you can improve the builds of these sets if you put in some effort, like with Kulta. If you don't like the sets, that's fine. No one needs to shill them to you. If you don't have a use for new heads, trans bones and armor shells, 2016 swords in new colors, and general parts like bohrok eyes, hordika necks, and technic connectors, then that should be great news. Not the original anon who posted the fix, but here's what I did. See if you can tell from this angle. I don't think I did it exactly like he did but it works for me. Arms will fall off fairly easily tho if your grey technical beams/ball joints don't have a lot of friction. I guess it varies by how worn the pieces are but the first few I tried were not sturdy at all. Anon who posted above me probably has a sturdier build.

So I've been playing around with the technic pieces and remade some of the Toa (Kopaka, Tahu, Gali, and Onua) with some new weapons that connect into some sort of scabbard. This is my Kopaka with his three sword holster (yes he can hold them all at once) the others are more prototype like aside from Tahu's sword and scabbard, I can show pics of my Kopaka using all three swords if anyone is interested. And tips on armor and build itself would be appreciated.

So what's the deal with Lava Beast's action feature, anyway? I can see there are gears on his blades but I can't tell what they do. It kind of looks like you spin the small gear to make the blade "chop" and the other gear is there for friction, but that seems really useless and kind of an awkward way to achieve such a function.

He just has waist swivel, the gears on his blades are just there to add friction so that they can stay in that sorta 'wing mode' without being floppy, but can still easily transfer over into the blade-mode.

Lava beast has wings(?) that turn into blades, Storm beast has large claws (which look better than they do in that image, I built them earlier today, they have problems but they look MUCH better when actually built the right way up), and Quake beast has a mace thing made of the same piece as Korgot's star drill. So earlier today I built the legs on this Umarak (which is clearly the right way they are to be built) while hard to see here, I made the assumption that the back bone has a knee/elbow connection to the foot since we saw that in the boxart and it matches the upper leg piece, and we know how contraction is with parts re-use in a set. Not gonna bother posting pics because you can see how they look in the actual pic of Destroyer, but was important was the poseability, the foot is fairly limited in forward / backwards motion, but in actuality its about the same as the Hunter's legs, it just seems more limiting due to the larger foot size, because of the piece used for the back bone though, they actually have surprisingly excellent articulation in the sorta pivot (roll is the proper term in comparison to pitch and yaw rotation I guess) motion, and it is clearly designed overall to be sturdy first and foremost due to the massive size of the figure.

It's Umarak wearing the mask of Control, besides the color scheme change, the only real difference is the lack of antlers, which was a defining feature sure. but the leg design and shoulder pads do harken back to UtH a bit, but yeah its pretty different, but it is clearly some sort of mutated version of Umarak after he put the mask of control on and it fused/twisted/enlarged on his face.

Of course the new JtO trailers seem to indicate Umarak might have some kind of crazy transforming powers since he randomly grew a tail and purple claws in Pohatu's trailer, so who the fuck knows whats up with him.

Hmm, it's quite a good quickloader, but then comes the part where you reload the quickloader.
Maybe create a machine (preferably using Technic and Mindstorm, but actual machinery is not out of the question) that quickloads the quickloader, then make quickloaders in bulk so you can fire that one stud launcher at a consistent rate for an extended period.

True, but if you replace the "spare mags" on Umarak, Onua, and Kopaka with the distal end of the quickloader, it actually makes the spare mags effective without adding too much bulk.

It's more of a proof-of-concept prototype than anything.

We've got two people going, they'll be bringing two cameras and we'll even be able to touch them with our own hands.

There be more than enough pictures to tickle your fancy, we all want em.

Hopefully that'll give us a closer look at the beasts builds as apart from storm beast they are a bit all over the place. And seeing Umarak the destroyer up close will determine whether or not he's worth buying, he certainly has the most intriguing build of this year.

Is there something specific people should be taking pictures other than close ups? Is there something people are dying to see with these sets? Im asking only because there hasn been anyone to specific other than wanting better pictures overall.

And remember if you dont feel like responding, you dont need to.

Also throwback picture of an old WIP that I never managed to finish, that i'll probably do completely over again, the only thing still intact is the headpiece. The craze around the new pictures is pretty much the only discussion topic at the moment, but does anyone have any wild ideas to a type of monster that could use such a head? Open for ideas here.

The original idea was a sort of frost beast with a mounted turret that a protector could fit in, but as I built it, it become more of witch doctor rip-off which wasnt too fond of.

Kept the leg design for something less "beasty", using the for a white Keetongu inspired cyclops instead, which is why I'm on the new ideas train.

Finally rebuilt Kulta for a side-by-side with Umarak.
While both sets have their ups and downs, I gotta say that Umarak is my favorite of the two for multiple reasons.

From a purely technical standpoint:
>Better total set value at 14 cents/piece instead of 18
>Figure itself has more parts; 136 vs 78
>Needs less intensive modification for improvement
>Is completely functional out of the box (thanks, Kulta McFlopShoulders)

From a more subjective standpoint:
>More interesting build
>Better posing
>Adds more relatively rare recolors - tr. Bright Green shells/bones/clipons, various tan bits, dark red spines, etc. - to CCBS Hyperspace
>Has actual story significance, rather than coming out of left field as the "Obligatory BBEG"
>Design has mythological basis again (Thank you Based Herne)
>DEM ANTLERS

Not calling Kulta bad by any means, he's definitely one of the best sets of 2015, I just think Umarak is better.

I definitely agree, though of course you have to remember Kulta had to "share" with Ekimu just to hit an economic price point. Although, that makes me with they had split the two up so we could have had a better-designed Kulta.

I wonder how the beasts would look in Journey to One's style. Would be nice if there was a second season planned for summer, which actually seems surprisingly likely now that I think about it. This year's two waves are looking pretty tightly connected plot-wise and suddenly starting from the middle in some other medium after the Netflix series tells the first half would be horribly confusing for lots of people.
There's also the possibility that the 4 episodes we know of cover the whole year, but I'd be really disappointed in that case.

The upper body was too small for my tastes before, so I looked for a way to put more of the original torso back in. As much as I like the Skull wave's bone pieces, I'm not sure they are the best choice for the lower arms anymore.

I've seen a lot of people thinking it will be more than four episodes, but when they say 4 episodes, it's pretty clear they mean 4 episodes. 22 minutes is a long time, substantially longer than the entire summer wave of animations, if you consider how much time even in that small amount of time was wasted on little bits of recap (since it was split into many episodes and they needed them to work as a standalone), you end up being able to pack a huge amount of content into 22 minutes, and since the summer wave is probably going to literally just be "Umarak got big so the Toa go beat him and beat some random mooks with big heads along the way", there is no reason they would need to make a whole second season for the summer wave.

The Turaga coming back out of nowhere would mostly just be weird. I'd be okay with it if Bionicle continues past 2017 and they got introduced at the start of the next "saga", but not in the finale of the current one.
My most recent dream of 2017 is a wave of upgraded, but not Toa-sized protectors paired with some Okotoan beast to ride on, with the sets featuring the protectors' proper names. That would give us a break from constant Toa upgrades while also packing some nice worldbuilding right into the sets with the different creatures.

Yeah, I know it'd be strange for them to appear out of nowhere but I'm sure that the story could work in a reason for their absence. Like, say for example they were around during the time of the city of the Mask Makers, but Makuta banished them before or after crafting the Mask of Ultimate Power. That's actually a pretty great idea, to have the small sets be the heroes and the medium sets to be their slightly bigger accessories. That said, I don't see Lego doing that anytime soon because I'm sure it's the medium sets that bring in the most profit for them and if they were suddenly to make the small-sets the must buy main characters then they might risk losing out on something.

G1 already explained where the mata came from, the only way for G2 to work as a prequel in that sense would be if they got pulled via time travel out of their canisters as they got launched from the Codrex, hence why they were floating for 1000 years in the sea, or if they get warped in front of Hydraxon for their first awakening in G1.

I also modified that Quetzalcoatl moc from earlier to make it a bit more...well, Quetzalcoatl like. No tail, long neck, and he can KINDA mimic the stance with the wings, but it still needs some work. Honestly might just take this apart to work on a new body for Makuta or something, since the one I have now is so basic it's a 10 on the PH scale

So yeah, finished that ground-up Umarak/Kulta combiner. Not in one sitting, mind, had to go to work for most of the intervening time, but I'm pretty damn satisfied with what I came up with.
It preserves the torso-swing and arm gearbox of the original sets, but can't unite with the creatures. Had to use that piece for Heavy Weapon Dragmaw, and there wouldn't be much room for it anyway.
Added bonus: It uses only parts from the figures themselves, save for the orange claw/toes, so anyone with Kulta and Umarak can build it and see what they think.

This little beauty took the longest to build, but it's probably my favorite part of the moc.
Trying to make a Shadow Trap-nested stud shooter with only the parts in Umarak and Kulta was challenging, but the restrictions made it all the more fun.
The best part? It fires fucking perfectly.
