So, anyone else have a loose swivel function on their Kopaka? Mine barely has friction compared to the other toa. Ironically I had similar gear box issues with 2015 Kopaka...this a common thing, or am I just cursed?

I'm moving and I've been digging up my boxes full of old beloved Bionicles. I've even got a few from the first run of McDonald's toys. My parents threw out all the boxes and canisters years and years ago, but I'm wondering if complete played with sets are still a thing of huge interest, if they're in nice condition?

I absolutely adored this series, still do. Keeping the books until I die.

ok here's the thing about "trans yellow". What is referred to as trans yellow is actually 3 different colors.

Trans lime (seen on Pohatu, Umarak and Scorpio) isn't really yellow, it's more of a chartruese or highlighter yellow.
It was called trans neon green before Lego came out with an actual transparent green. IT looks yellow in rendering but rest assured it is NOT.

Transparent yellow is the standard non-florescent color. This can be seen in Protector of Fire's mask and his and Tahu's flame pieces.
The Ultimate Axl minifigure from Nexo Knights uses actual transparent yellow.

Transparent florescent yellow was the color of Gali and Takanuva's brain pieces. It was only used for those parts and has been retired since 2003.

I'm starting to honestly believe that Lego just rolls a dice when deciding colors for the small Technic things.

I got me one of them Nexos Knights thingamajigs, and while it had black 2-long axles, light grey half-bushings and half-pins, it also had red full-sized bushings, red 3-long axles and yellow 4-long axles.

Can't they just choose a color and stick to it, instead of making these fucking rainbows.

It actually fires perfectly, though you have to turn the trigger-wheel counterclockwise. It's the offset of the triaxle relative to the firing pin that allows it.

For the wrists, I used bones with two pin holes. It's hard to see in the image, but I put one of these parts on each wrist, and those hold the swords on. I can take a photo of the assembly later if you like.

I like how Skull Spiders and Skull warriors are still relevant to the story (as random mook enemies but whatever) since not only does it mean the set isnt completely irrelevant, but it also is nice from a worldbuilding perspective as it gives us more enemies that are just part of the world rather than things that show up for one year and disappear like a lot of G1.

I didn't really have a collector's mindset til very recently, so it didn't bother me growing up to buy/ask for a couple bonkles here and there and be 2-3 short of completing the wave and not care. I had a strange situation as a kid. I knew of bonkle and wanted them dearly but where we lived was really rural so walmarts were out of the way and my family was paranoid and weird and didn't order online. My first bonkle ever was the red rahkshi but I wanted Tahu Mata/Nuva so awful. We could never find them because it was a couple years past their shelf life. It took til 2009 when one of my uncles with an ebay account hooked me up. I couldn't help but be mildly bitter that I missed childhood with them but better late than never I guess.

I'm 22 now and buy everything in sight so that never happens again.

Well its been a long 2 years on this general for me. And its finally my time to leave. I feel kind of like I'm typing an epitaph before a lethal injection honestly.

I lost my collection early on in my life because my father felt it was depriving me of my life. Now that I am 19, my Aunt is taking everything away from me. I lost my mother in September and have been in a downhill spiral ever since, I've put off college and have lazed around for several months. And my Aunt, who I am living with since I cant afford to live on my own, is going to take everything away from me until I "get my life together". So before she can do that, I'm having my girlfriend take my entire Lego collection and miscellaneous figures. In return for you all being there for me this whole time Im going to give one last dump of everything I've made for you guys, and I hope Ill be able to return one day.

I know its a total derail of the thread, but you all made me truly enjoy a hobby I put down for so long.

Ill commence the dump after my next post.

Tatotoroka is probably my favorite creation, and recently I had my girlfriend make him a scarf and shawl for the winter, I never got a chance to show him without his shawl (because the shawl fell apart due to an error on my part, and he just wears his scarf now. It's literally just a skull warrior, they are just sorta brownish instead of bright blue in it, and this particular one has a skull spider on its face. Look at the armor configuration, the bow, and the toes, its literally just a skull warrior, many of which appear in JtO.

Never mind the design, my autism is triggered more by the animation. Specifically that no matter their movements, the Skull Fuckers' toes always seem to stay horizontal and point in the same direction, clipping into the shin and sticking out at weird angles.

imo, 06-08 were the best years. with all the pieces of previous years, the new ones introduced in 06-07 made so much possible. i wish the plastic and design they made the U-cups with in 07-08+ weren't complete garbage. if they still existed, it'd definitely be my favorite era for bricklink orders.

As you can see, I got some sets during 2007. I loved the barraki and underwater toa.
But I couldn't stand the flat Inika build and their retarded head/mask. I hated the matoran of Voya Nui. Mahri Nui was simply a momentary spark of passion.
Considering that part of the reason why I was into Bionicle was the lore, the clusterfuck it became later on was too much to take for me.
Right now I kinda regret this, as design-wise they were great, I agree.

If they use multiple voice actors (which they probably will, since this is going on netflix so they have to actually care), they will probably be fairly cheap / unknown ones, though even popular voice actors arent really cared about enough to get name recognition or anything, they probably just feel there is no need to release a cast list or anything.

light piping was always worse in the metru heads than the mata heads, and the 2015/2016 eyetalks are even worse then the metru heads for that.

Trans Orange and Neon Green eyestalks still work well enough, but the blue ones barely work at all, which is unfortunate since all the eyes are blue this year.

Shoulder armor doesn't mess with articulation at all really, I mean you cant lift the arm way above the head I guess, but that's not a pose you need to do much anyway, and its a realistic restriction of the armor (in real life, armor can lower your own articulation by a lot, Bionicle figures generally have way more articulation in their shoulder area than a human would have wearing that much armor.

You're not alone.
What you're referring to is the "Inika Build," so named for the Toa team that introduced it, which pretty much became the staple for Toa builds until the Glatorian, where it became standard for pretty much everything.

2007 was pretty creative with its builds, but that's pretty much the only outlier.

I havent bothered MOCing this yet, but this was one idea I had, where I re-orient the pieces of the weapon with some added technic bits to turn them into axes while keeping the aesthetic, as indicated by the red text, that blade piece would be a crystal blade / spear piece, but obviously LDD doesnt have that.

I based it off Mark Witton's reconstruction of Zhejiangopterus, but had to make a few sacrifices on account of lego not being avemetatarsalian bones and whatnot.

G2 Vahi will be a spartan style helmet and 2 pegs near the mouth gap

G1 Vahi will be redone in a modern style with no axle and the inner holes will be resized to fit pegs

They will fit together like pic related, and the G2 vahi could have runes on it that are encircled by the G1 Vahi outer holes when combined

Well fucking done.
Phalanges I-III are highly reduced in Azhdarchids to accommodate their terrestrial lifestyle, so those wolverine claws(?) look fine to my eyes.
If I had any suggestions it'd be to base the head around Pridak's feet and fins for the shape, but they're not available in LDD as far as I know.

Honestly, what I have left from the original collection, which is basically a mixed bin of parts, is so beat up that I don't mind that the majority is gone. I had a good run and wonderful memories with the series, especially 2006.

I have no clue how it works, but medium blue glows while light and dark don't. Gali's crystal armor is apparently medium blue, since it glows. Lego really needs to get their shit together and start making more trans-medium blue parts.

Personally I like the looks of it, except for the for-arms/weapons. I prefer normal looking hands, but that's just me.
About the body, maybe it's slightly out of proportion, the torso is long while the upper legs are short and slim. Don't know if you actually wanted it to be like that.
I like the back and the addition of all those gears.

Honestly, if something seems structurally iffy on a modern Lego set, its almost surely the best solution they could come up with, Lego is pretty big into quality control on how sturdy the models are.

The only set where I doubt them is Onua Uniter, where his shoulders can be made a LOT more stable by putting a 5m axle through the piece of unity and the shoulder connections rather than just a 3m through the unity piece.

Personally I have never had a problem with Kopaka's shoulder connection, though then again I treat my sets a bit too delicately and am very careful when putting them into poses for no reason.

It's luck of the draw really, those parts can generally last a bit, but will consistently break after a couple of disconnect / reconnects. It also might vary from part to part, all my 08 (I skipped 09) sockets are fine, but I rarely took those sets apart, meanwhile EVERY SINGLE AV-MATORAN PIECE I OWN has cracked sockets from the first time I put them together.

When a molecule absorbs UV light, its electrons "jump up" to a higher-energy state.
In most compounds, this excitation causes bonds to break, releasing the excess energy as heat. This is what causes the "yellowing" on plastic that's been exposed to the sun for too long.

However, in fluorescent compounds something else happens.
Fluorescent compounds often have higher-hybridized electrons and non-bonding electron pairs within their structure, allowing excited electrons to "shuffle" around without breaking any bonds.
In this case, the electrons are free to "jump down" to their ground state, and in so doing release the excess energy as visible light.
Instead of deteriorating, these compounds actively glow.

Different fluorescent compounds emit at different frequencies, with the most common being blue, greenish-blue, greenish-yellow, yellow, and red.
Because of this, one can mix different fluorescent compounds to create plastic that fluoresces in any color desired.

Unfortunately, TLG's a buncha cheap cunts so they only make fluorescent parts using the most widely commercially available fluorescent dyes: neon green, neon yellow-green, and neon orange.

It is a shame. A lot of people have told me its a waste of money and time, but it has endless playability. It helps with creativity, spatial awareness, and imagination. And it truly makes me happy, that's all that should matter.
Well, I was 5 when I got the three Turaga for Christmas that year. My parents knew I liked Legos and decided to try something. Little did they know they started a lifelong obsession with the line.
And then on my birthday a few months later, I got Tahu and Gali and I remember building them in my closet before school because I was so excited I couldnt wait until the afternoon.
Eventually around 2004 they stopped buying them for me and instead gave me an allowance (which was pathetic, about $5-10 every two weeks sometimes a month) So I would buy up as much as I could until the next wave came out.

And now that I'm in college with a job I'm buying up as much as I can

Maxilos and Spinax is pretty debatable thats a good set, Axalara T9 is a big set and super cool, but doesnt have a lot of character of it's own, is really expensive, and comes with a pretty mediocre figure.

I really don't understand the appeal. Umarak is basically just a standard uniter toa torso, but with longer limbs. He really doesn't seem like 'greatest set of all time' material. I have a feeling he's only getting the votes he is because he's the first titan-esque character we've gotten in 6 years.

BZPower was the biggest bionicle fansite by far in G1 is hated here for the same reason tumblr is, it's a bunch of SJW's circlejerking the admins and not actually discussing anything related to Bionicle anymore, the site also has very bad quality reviews and quite a few of the staff members dont actually buy the sets and just receive them all for free, so put these together and you can see why they are disliked.

TTV is a podcast / youtube channel / fansite and isn't really as disliked here, they were really good during the initial Bionicle 2015 leak season, and the actual cast members seem pretty chill, but their community is nearly as bad as BZPower's, and a few of the cast members have started taking themselves a bit too seriously as of late partially in order to receive the same free sets from Lego that BZPower does and their content has suffered as a result, so that combined with the iffy community causes that site to be moderately disliked here (nowhere near the hate we have for BZPower though, that site is pure cancer.

Of course I may just be projecting here, and other anons probably have different opinions.

BZPower used to be good-ish in Bionicle's heyday, but after the cancellation many of the friendlier contributors and average joes left, and the site quickly degenerated into a cesspool of SJWs. Please note that I don't care for that turn-of-phrase, but when you can get banned for your MOC having a typically feminine shape (read: nuva tits) you know the place is bonkers.

TTV is okay and at least we get leaks from them, but there are a few posters with egos larger than the Great Spirit Robot
