Tahu is more or less a fusion of his Uniter and his Master body, since I really liked the blades on his back in his previous form, and there was way too many shapes on the original Uniter body.

I wanted to have a clean back, even with the reworked Uniter port, since he's now a bulky Hunchback, Terak couldn't reach Onua's head as is, which is probably why Onua wasn't different from the other Uniters in the first place.

Everyone looks pretty cool, not as much of a fan of Hunchback Onua after he suddenly became upright last year, but the extra bulk is nice and the removal of the technic bushings on the drill rip is great. How'd you do it?

For the anons that were wondering about the gold rahkshi head in my salvation army pieces, it's definitely heresy. I wish it wasn't scratched off, because it actually looks pretty cool, but at the same time, I like the weathered look it has.

The only new Bionicle set my Walmart got was Uniter Tahu.

The only other sets they have are thesreon "clearance." And yes, they actually do ring up for these prices.

Blum'd do a good job of anyone, though personally I'd want to see him doing either Kopaka or Lewa.

Onua still had the head farther to the front last year, my Unity modification is only based on G2 universe Onua, not so much on the original one. For the hammer it's pretty simple, take out everything from the 4L axle and attach the drill to the cylinder connector using a blue cross/round axle, then attach the system 1x1 cone using a minifig spear, the one I've used is the extra one from Jango Fett Battle Figure. On that note, I really love how the gold looks like inside the trans-purple cone.

I really love last year's winter wave, pretty much every set was perfect (except LOSS, but it wasn't really a CCBS set). This year is more flawed, but it's really fun to modify them to fit my tastes. And yeah, even if I was defending Gali's new mask, it's pretty awful as the eye part are too deep and thick and don't even line up with the eyes. Probably my least favourite mask of G2 yet.

"Good design" is not a measurable aspect of a Lego set. The goodness of a set comes not from the objective properties of set itself, but in our subjective judgments of these properties and how they interact. This is why simple sets can beat complex ones, static sets can beat posable ones, and functionless sets can beat sets with gimmicks. Opinion is the final measure and ultimately nothing can trump it when it comes to how much we enjoy our toys.

Umarak the Hunter is a great value, has a fun build, is solid as a rock, looks great, poses well, comes with good parts, is the first really "unique" villain in terms of design that we've had in forever, and is also out right now.

Won't post it now because it's late and I'm in bed, but I'll show said Tahu tomorrow night. I actually didn't like the red shells the more I messed with him because they stood out too much compared to the rest of his colors in my eye, so I replaced them with trans red of the same size and it looks pretty good I gotta say. I just wish his mask were a brighter red, then maybe they wouldn't seem so off to me.

It's funny because I originally wanted more standard red on him from the get go, and now that I get it I don't like it.

Kopaka was my favorite 2015 set, partially because the lack of open ball joints made him feel the most finished and just overall polished. Plus he was one of the three who used the better, more detailed torso armor.

Yet I like 2016 Kopaka more. Not sure why, maybe it's the more serious expression and detail the mask has, maybe it's because his sword and overall silhouette remind me more of classic Kopaka, whatever it is though, he just feels better than 2015 Kopaka to me. Gali is probably the only toa that looks worse than their 2015 counterpart to me.

I did like the massive shoulder pads and the gold of 2015 Kopaka, but ideally I'd make those part of an additional set of heavy armor he can switch on and out at will, akin to what his combination with Melum does. The one thing Master has over Uniter is the mask, nothing surprising since I always liked the Mata masks more than the Nuva.

I found Onua last year to be too massive for a Toa, so his 2016 form is an improvement to me. I miss the silver elements though- much like on 2015 Tahu, they they helped balance the color scheme, preventing it from being too warm. And again, I like the 2015 mask more due to its closeness to the 2001 Pakari.

In terms of masks I prefer the Onua and Gali's 2015 versions over their new versions by quite a bit, but for everyone else i like their new masks better. Kopakas is an odd case for me because while I feel the 2015 mask is more accurate to the original in terms of shape, something about the overall expression and feel of the 2016 mask reminds me even more of the 2001 mask than the 2015 version does.

I do like the new "Akaku" and "Pakari" on their own, just not for their characters and how I'm used to see them. Kopaka's new mask does what the Kanohi Nuva did and I never liked- taking simple effective designs and making them needlessly complicated and "old" looking. Meanwhile the Pakari fixes the size issue, but the 2015 version is just too perfect to be replaced by anything else. But I'll have to see for myself what you mean about Kopaka's expression. There are some design subtleties you can only pick on when you have a piece in hand.

Still torn about the smaller Toa' masks.

Honestly, I'm sort of expecting that next year. I think the winter wave could go something like: 6 upgraded Protectors, and 6 small villain sets. Then, like, Makuta. with the MoUP. Then the summer wave could feature the Mask of Time... and. HOLY SHIT, I just had an idea.

What if because the summer wave (and possibly the G2 finale) is about time, three 15 dollar villains are based on:

>And the Piraka (power)
Like STARS but, youknow. Not shit.
Then a giant ass Makuta who spawned them by harnessing the power of ALL THREE Legendary masks, and like... "Tahu: Uniter of Time" wearing the mask as he did in '03.

Then, as a giant "FUCK YOU," using the mask, Tahu summons all three Toa teams from G1 and they unite across time to defeat Makuta. It's all right here in my, fuckin, made up book of fairytales.

Just a note from somebody who started with the original Hero Factory for MOCs. Most of mine that I consider perfect still get yearly breakdowns, replacing old parts and building technique, changing out weapons that fit styles best.

My first most gets almost yearly drastic changes, usually one good element it had being moved into a MOC of its own.

Melum is an awful little figure, and shouldn't even be compared to Terak, it may be my least favourite G2 figure yet, below skull scorpio and even LOSS. Kopaka is fun as fuck out of the box though, but I got some changes running, the legs are one module shorter, I've modified his shield/gun assembly a little, the sword will be modified once I'll find something good. The silver will be totally replaced by gold, to keep the 3/3 ratio between the Toa, and while I like the shoulders, they will be modified as well. The Dark Metal shells are placeholders for Dark Blue ones, since I really like it as secondary colour. All I need is Akida and I'll have every winter set.

Honestly just a small circle shield or kite shield would have been fine for 2016 Kopaka, the sword and board style is much more "kopaka" than spear and tower shield, but the gun kinda kills it for me, even if you can get some awesome looking poses via a combination of the mask-scope and gun.

All the toa come with gold masks, in both 2015 and 2016. Umarak comes with the legendary Mask of Control. The 2016 Toa's extra armor you're talking about i think you mean are the Creatures that combine with the Toa are sold separately. I would reccomend getting the respective creature for whatever 2016 Toa you get, it makes them look a lot better and more complete. For the 2015 Toa though, the smaller sets aren't required I would say. Pic related is another good set which also comes with a legendary mask like Umarak does, though this one is $30 instead of $20. Arguably much cooler legendary mask though, and 2 figures in 1 set.

2015 Toa are most consistently good, but they all have some ugly open ball joints and plain aesthetics, the 2016 figures that are good, are REALLY good, and blow the 2015 figures out the water entirely, whereas others (Gali) fall short of their 2015 counterparts, but are still good. not to mention 2016 sets end up more story-relevant since they are the newest sets / versions of the characters, andget the JtO netflix show instead of the mediocre flash animations.

If you are a fan of classic Bionicle, 2016 was made for you, if you preferred Hero Factory / Chima Ultrabuilds, 2015 is more your style.

All figures come with their respective Golden mask, though no extra armor.

Protectors were awesome and only needed small tweaks to fix.
The Uniter Beasts are generally awesome, very customizable into any direction you want to go, and work well off the bat except with Pohatu's beast.

I wouldn't do it that way (would prefer mask to be a worn item and expressions provided by eye shapes) but I think her style is rad. it's always good to see someone doing it tastefully.

They probably had more free-reign with Umarak's design.
Sets that aren't strictly "humanoid" tend to have more creative builds: the Barraki (and Mahri to a lesser extent), Mistika Makuta, etc.

The argument can be made that it's not great out of the box - but the thing is, all the pieces needed to make him good are in the box. Swap 4 shells and split the spear, even just split the spear and it's golden.

Lewa and Gali, due to the proportions, are much worse out of the box

Hope this includes G1. Ketar is so far my least favorite G2 set, but that's about it really. I've not had too many qualms with the others. I even kinda like scorpio really and LOSS would be great if he was a little bigger.

Now, as for G1...I did not like the Hordika at all, but that's a common complaint. Wasn't a Visorak fan either just due to the total lack of things you could do with em. Uh, the Rahaga were awful (2005 really wasn't a good time at all, yikes), and Tahu Mistika, as much as I love Tahu (and even that figure itself, really), is objectively pretty bad. Av Matoran were awful too. I only had one but that's all I needed to determine this.

As for redeeming features, Tahu Mistika is really fun to pose and I love the shield as simple and small as it is. The Hordika's asymmetry was kinda cool. The Visorak and Rahaga I have nothing positive to say about, and I guess the Av Matoran were kinda cute maybe.

I completely agree with this. This is my favourite tweak. I changed Narmoto's shoulder cannon so that it's actually on the shoulder rather than hanging awkwardly and can tuck away nicely. Substitute the green axle and the lime Technic bit for the axle with stopper and 3-pinned Technic bit, respectively. Oh, and give the poor guy some forearms. I haven't made anything spectacular with the other weapons as I didn't have many spare parts to work with. I'll try to improve it on LDD rather than post what I have right now.

If you want a rare mask, go ahead. It doesn't have any story relevance yet and I don't think there's a lot of clear CCBS parts, so no crystal Tahu. The Hero Pack mask is nice and far cheaper. It's the closest we'll get to a drained Tahu 2015 mask.

I put standard red shells on his upper arms, but they're too loud compared to the rest of him and stand out way too much. I replaced said standard red with trans red, but trans red shell on a trans red bone is kind of overbearing. Now the only change I've done to him is I gave him his 2015 upper legs back, but the shell involved is also trans red.

As I said in the last thread, I thought I wanted more standard red on him til I tried it out. Tahu already looks pretty damn good as he is. To the anon that did the revamps, I love the standard red on your Tahu, but in hand it's just too loud on mine. Not sure what it is.

Its funny how often I have found this to be the case on these G2 sets, when I make the fixes I think would be obvious, I start to see why the sets were made the way they were. The only exception I have found thus far is Kopaka Uniter's Thighs, which I think was probably a carryover from a time when Kopaka Uniter would have had a bit more gold.

That's literally exactly what happened to me. I thought throwing some red on him would make him look better in his non-united state but it just sticks out too much now that I have it in hand. His mask color isn't standard red for a reason. It'd be way too bright in comparison to the gold and trans-red. If anything, I think he might have too much gold on his arms, but that can be remedied by just taking off that forearm armor piece.

Thankfully, I think everyone else's colors look great spare Kopaka's gold thighs.

Those actually look pretty cool anon, but I have a feeling I'm never going to unite Kopaka. Unlike Tahu and Onua's color schemes, gold just ain't jivin' with white and dark blue. Plus ol copac looks pretty great with Gali's crystals in place of his.

Got Pohatu and Ketar, Unironically like their unity mode despite what I figured. Realized you have to wrap Ketars legs around him to counter the wobble, and point the blades forward rather than up, having them resting on his shoulders, but after doing that it looks badass as all hell.

The thing about the Mask of Time. It's the only official record so far about how the Mask of Time is the top half of a larger mask.

Also, It shows a couple more villagers and explores a few different character angles on several of the Toa, but that's about it.

Eh. I wouldn't say that. He helps some desert puppies find and save their mother from a skull spider, and along the way he lets his personality out a little more as he bonds with the pups. I'd say he's more antisocial than "putting on an act." He barely knows the other Toa, but is more comfortable around animals it seems.
