Which Pohatu fixes? I recall there being a build that incorporated some of Master Pohatu's dark orange shells, and a different one that only used the parts included in the Uniter of Stone.

That's the goal, if you look closely, you'll see the two other plates I've used on the shield are the same one that come with the regular set. It's supposed to give the shield a central symetry (dunno if you call it that in English) with another set of sticker.

The only problem with that is that, Makuta/Teridax was meant to look mechanical, while Okoto feels more bio-mechanical and after seeing the mask-makers I don't think the current Makuta would fit the same shape that well.

Altering pieces is considered heresy unless they are those small black tubes or strings.

Anything that puts stress on parts. Like using one of the black pegs in one of the normal system 1x1 cylinders. The piece is slightly crushed and can become damaged over time, leading it to not fight into normal pieces like it should.

Another one is mixing the solid PVC plastic with the transparent ABS plastic. They have a weird thing going on, and if you use a PVC pole and put an ABS piece over it, like a cylinder, it produces much more friction than normal pieces, despite being the same dimensions. When you combine these pieces, it is impossible to take apart without destroying one of them.

The guide is fine, the only updating t needs is some CCBS stuff. The ball joints are bigger than the normal 1x1 dimension that Lego uses, but you can use a technic beam over them as long as it uses a peg hole and not an axle hole.

Nuva 2.0 Kopaka. He looks pretty badass, and I like that his scope is a stu hole, making it modifiable. Always nice to have a mask you can mess with like the skullspiders, Brutaka, or the Toa Mahri masks.

I've noticed a lot of people don't like ol Vastus but he's got a special place in my heart for this reason.

Literally the only thing of this nature that's ever happened to me was back in 2004/2005. Toa Nuva were popping up at local Dollar Generals and babby me had my parents running here there and everywhere looking for them. Play the goddamn fucking MNOG for a start and watch the 2002-03 animations. Ignore contradictory stuff from the book Tale of the Toa.

Also, the four movies have novelizations. The first two can be glossed over, they don't expand much on the films, but the Web of Shadows and The Legend Reborn books add lots of details and explanations.

Yeah but the Hapka books are lame. Also, it ignores the Chronicler's Company (which at the time of its writing wasn't canon) and the big fight with Makuta. Just like that, the climax is glossed over. And the author mixes up the Mata and Nuva a lot.

The only things to take away from that book is that there are two Manas as opposed to a horde, and the fight against the Shadow Toa, but the way the fight went down was retconned later on.

Don't recall the author mixing up the Mata and Nuva all that often.

Get matte-finish white acrylic hobby paint, some isopropyl alcohol, brushes, and a fingertip sprayer.
You can get all of these (including a very useful "craft brush set") from Walmart for ~$5

>Step 2: Priming
Mix white paint and alcohol in the fingertip sprayer at a 1:4 ratio, set your mask on a stand made of expendable parts (or cardboard, I don't care) and give the mask a good spritz.
Either work the mask with a heat gun/blowdryer or wait for an hour or so until dry.

>Step 3: Painting
Thin some white paint with water, and paint three coats of this thin mix onto your mask with a sponge brush (for even coverage).
Wait about 30 minutes between coats and let it dry overnight.

That's all there is to it.
If you want different colors, get different paints, but always use white primer.

It was great until I found out all the Toa mata's weapons were missing. No Gali hooks, no Lewa axe, no pohatu kickers, no kopaka sword, no onua claws.

At 4x22 minutes, Journey to One is longer than any of the G1 movies and looking really promising so far. It definitely has the potential to be one of the very best animated pieces in Bionicle's history.
I just wish they'd give us an actual release date already.

I personally think that they're trying to make another series along the lines of Ninjago or Chima, which have proved pretty popular among its target demographic (young boys). Both of the above have basically proved that they can and will like something that has some level of continuity and plot.

The hard thing with Bionicle is that it has something to live up to. You've got all the adults who were into it when they were younger, which is a blessing and a curse.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised at all if LEGO tried to make Bionicle into something like its version of Transformers: an IP with staying power that relied on variations of a central theme and characters in order to keep things fresh. And I would be perfectly okay with this.

At the bare minimum, you have to give them credit for at least trying to develop their own IPs instead of just shitting out licensed stuff.

The Transformers comparisons are inevitable, really. If you have something with a built-in demographic, why not take advantage of it?

And it's worth noting that Bionicle was around for an entire decade, so that's quite a lot of exposure to consumers even beyond the initial surge of popularity.

I don't want to sound cynical but we need to keep in mind that the TV series isn't made primarily for us. The question was that if LEGO has people who can write a profitable show that appeals to its target demographics. Let's see if it does:
Chima:
>3 seasons with 41 episodes
>Got pretty high ratings.
The first series to have come out after HF so still fine-tuning how to write well.

Ninjago:
>5 seasons with 56 episodes, with another season and a movie on the way
>Obviously very popular with fans.
>Got nominated for an Annie Award for Best Direction (Lost to the Simpsons, which is a much older show)
Worth noting that it also started out as a 4-episode miniseries.

Mixels:

Looks like the answer is a yes.
Now we can be assured that these people will at least know what they're doing when writing a TV show aimed for kids.

I consider the art style proof of this. I don't think that having Telltale-style cel shading is a coincidence, nor the Flash animation that is a blatant shout-out to things like MNOLG. It's almost like a nod in our direction.

That's why I for one am optimistic. We've come a long way since Hero Factory, where LEGO literally had no idea how to make a good TV series.

Personally I think fuckhuge mocs are pretty ass. Very rarely do they ever look like anything more than a cobbled together mess roughly resembling the silhouette of a character. On top of that, weight and articulation issues usually mean that achieving intresting poses is pretty much impossible. Basically turning your figure into a glorified statue.

That said, when they're done really well, they're masterpieces. I certainly wouldn't recommend making a fuckhuge moc for your first atempt.

The story elaborated on it in a way.
The Mahri are unique because Pit Mutagen affects everyone differently, plus the Ignika changed their Masks.
Barraki are separate species.
Phantoka/Mistika had adaptive armor.
Makuta can shapeshift.
Glatorian have body variation like people and wear themed armor.

So I just sorta threw together this female toa-esque character while I wait for about 10 bricklink orders to hurry up and arrive. Honestly I didn't plan on ever posting her. She's pretty basic, and far from impressive.

She does have a trick weapon though, it doubles as a greatsword and a pair of serrated scissors. A design that was shamelessly stolen from the Grand Titan.

There was no real reason for the build, I just wanted to use the hau metru, because honestly it's a pretty criminally underused mask. And I needed to kill time waiting on parts for my blorange rahkshi tittymonster.

This reminds me of a funny story...

When I turned 10 in 2004, I figured that I was getting too old for Bionicle. Since my birthday's at the end of January, I ended up missing the entire year, lore and all.

Then I turned 11, realized that was dumb, and caught up on the lore. It was too late to get any of the 2004 sets, so I decided to make up for it...
...by buying the entire Hordika wave.

I realize the irony of that now, but at the time the idea of half-animal Toa was the coolest shit ever, like the Bionicle equivalent of a Kroot carnivore squad.
Hell, before I realized that they were supposed to be rahi or whatever, I thought the combo models were some kind of "Beast Kaita" where the Toa fused and let their animal sides take over.
That alone would've made 2005 about 50 times better.
