I personally dislike most of the protectors, a lot of them have dwarf arms that you can barely move about, but Stone and Jungle are cool in my book.

I think the 2016 Toa's are a big step up from last year and i'm excited to get my hands on them, i feel like i'm one of the few in this general because most people seem to express great dislike with this reboot

I think it's been pretty good. Sets are great, the app games are amusing, and there's clearly been thought put into the world they've set G2 in.

The lore has been rater slow-going, that is true, but I also understand that BIONICLE is no longer TLG's top property

A lot of people are just really pessimistic (though lately there has also been a lot of shitposting), they complain about the sets for not being enough like the old sets, then complain about them being too much like the old sets, they complain about a lack of story or lore, and yet haven't bothered reading any of the story material.

It's a lot of people as adults not being able to appreciate the childrens toy line in the same way they appreciated it as children and getting a bit jaded by the reboot as a result.

I will admit I would have liked some kind of MNOG, since that was the single most important piece of G1 media, giving Mata Nui an insane amount of worldbuilding that none of the other G1 settings even came close to. But unfortunately I feel a point and click adventure game just wouldn't work well for kids in today's world.

In order to be underrated you need to at least be somewhat good. I will admit those years did introduce some nice pieces like the chest armor and the foot guard armor on this figure. But we didnt get enough recolors of them for it to be worthwhile to me.

I felt like a lot of the new mask powers they came up with in 2006 and on were kind of ridiculous. 2001-2005 we had masks that grant you ability to levitate, create a force field, breathe underwater, augment your strength, speed, or vision, go invisible, control the minds of animals, etc.

Then we get shit like "This mask lets you turn into a ghost" or "This mask gives you the power to control gravity" or "This mask lets you reanimate the dead as a vast army you can control", or "This mask lets you summon duplicates of yourself via time travel shenanigans" (in a universe where the actual mask of time is a huge deal that cant be fucked with).

I can't remember who, but one Inika had a mask that gave you a headache when Ignika was nearby. That's pretty pointless for vast majority of Toa.

The Miru always seemed like an incomplete mask to me, power-wise. With a few exceptions, the Mask of Levitation was protrayed as simply levitating its user, too slow IMO to be practical in combat.

In comparison, it's clear that the Kadin -- while harder to master -- is more versatile, and probably equal to the flight capabilities Lewa has when the Wind is by his side.

2006 had dumb masks with cool powers
2007 had cool masks with dumb powers
2008 had dumb masks with both

Jack-of-all-trades boost (I'm not sure what to actually call the Calix's power, but it's not that weird), detection, telepathy, accuracy, flying and spirit form are not that far off from previous mask powers

Sonar and Stealth are the same. Gravity is an elemental mask which I guess did exist. Animal abilities and summoning were weird. Reanimation was very weird.

So... Since Melum isn't very good at all, I've decided to work on a new one. While the key design choices are the same (same legs, same head, minor modifications to the arms), the figure is very different, with a new function and no pre-made body used. If you move the tail from left to right, the figure will attack alternatively with its claws (think ketar but not shit, and I like ketar as a design, but the structure is fucked up).

I'VE DONE IT... partially. Peg hole didn't come in right, and I tried a mask of water, which didn't turn out right either. This can kind of sit on a face loosely because of the grooves though.

BUT

I'm seeing now, if I pour resin into the peg/mask connector sections allow those to cure first, and pour the resin into the mold's "bowl" section, then press the other end in, I should be able to get decent results without needing a pressure or vacuum chamber.

BUT it probably won't work so well with the transparent resin. To get that to be flawless, it'd really require the chambers....

assuming you don't already have plans for a diy one, I'd say it's worth looking into if you're on a budget. Do some googling, a few years ago i was interested in doing what you are doing, and i remember finding a lot of useful things when searching specifically for custom lego casting. Might be worth asking /diy/ too, they can be helpful. I find it goes smoother when asking any board for assistance if you act humble and mention mistakes or potential mistake beforehand. Take away their ammunition.

Also, regarding allergies, have you tried arm length rubber gloves? I think they make disposable one for cow spelunking. Goggles and a balaclava might help too. Are there creams or anything you can put on prior?

Sorry for the vagueness, i wish you the best of luck.

Oh, it might be worth asking people who make custom lego for tips. Arealight and fine clonier were my favourites, but the bigger companies like brickforge might help too.

I'll post the back in a bit, just started adding the mouth connector to it since it didn't fill in at all. Interestingly enough, the mold even catches the detail of the matoran language letters on the back of the krana, and transfers them 100% to the casted part. Silicone is pretty fucking fantastic stuff.

As for Metru Krana... That'd require some re-sculpting... probably sculpting a whole new thing because the head is so different. My sculpting skills are less than beginner right now but I wouldn't mind giving it a shot some day.

I've heard of that and I've seen some tutorials on DIYing those, but I'm not sure I want to try that just yet. I gotta get some kind of non-pressure method working before I move on to pressure casting... my income doesn't really let me get much more than the silicone/resin to mess with anyway. Problem is, silicone is expensive for the amount you get (about 20$ gets you two standard size mask molds if you don't fug up), but the resin goes much farther because each piece has very little volume. I want to pace myself here, too, gotta learn how to walk before I learn how to run, so to speak.

As for the allergies, I have been using gloves (nitrite rubber is best according to a NZ site about epoxy resin contact allergy), and facial protection with a breathing filter. I've noticed that if I wash my hands thoroughly after taking the gloves off, there are no issues whatsoever. I do this in by bathroom right now, with a fan pointing fumes toward the ventilation system. Seems to work well enough, I haven't had any skin breakouts or headaches, but it'd be great to have a proper dedicated work area for this sort of thing...

Haven't played the sequel yet, but got XCOM: Enemy Unknown over the holiday (brother got both of us Civ V/XCOM bundles for $5 apiece, fuck yes) and it's pretty sick.

That's not a bad Chrysalid you got going on, but you might have better luck attaching those Breakout(?) blades to the most distal shells, reversing the angle of the medial leg segments, and putting black Savage Planet "spine" pieces where the blades are now.

Takes a bit less than 1 fluid once each mask? I'm not exactly sure. I use about a fluid ounce, but some of it spills out because the method I'm using requires that to push the air out.

Krana uses less than half that amount of course.

They're much weaker, but they keep their shape. You can bend them with very little force but they won't deform by just being handled as long as you've allowed them to fully cure. Though a part may be solid once being removed from the mold, it takes several hours after that to reach optimum cure, longer if it's transparent resin.

Transparent stuff I'm using is a kind of Urethane, not sure what chemical make up of solid resin is. I wouldn't recommend making resin parts that are intended to hold up any weight, they're just too weak for that.

Invert the arm shells so the dark orange is on its biceps, the color layout will be more interesting. Also, you should rotate the shells on the shins then put back the crystal add-ons. It would be more or less like picture related with the dark orange on its thighs replaced with dark tan. I do prefer the new shoulders I made afterwards, but the one you used are more like the original set.

I attached the unity piece to the body differently, added a Hero Factory armor addon to the chest, and rearranged the hip and shoulder connectors to put more red on the main body. If I could get a 24-tooth gear in red (these exist, but are expensive), and some limbs in orange (this is a surprisingly rare color in CCBS), I think I would be satisfied. The shape is more or less where I want it, though. Maybe I could put something on the shoulders, but I also like how simple it looks. Rest in peace, Raw-Jaw.

Ketar's instructions seem to include two illegal connections. If you follow step 5 and press the blue axle-pins as far as they will go into the unity piece, then the pin ends will not fully insert into the lift arms in steps 7 and 8. Check your Ketar to see if you gave it these evil, evil connections from following the instructions.

Perhaps it's a bit of an autistic thing to complain about, but i've always felt Pohatu's elemental title "Stone" to be a bit redundant when we have Onua's Earth element which to me would seem to encompass the element of stone.

I suppose you could argue the same with water and ice but i feel like the two are different enough.

Now that lego has changed Lewa's element to Jungle I wish they'd do the same to Pohatu and change him to the Toa of Sand or Toa of Desert, it seems more fitting to him in my opinion

Just a bit. Go dig a hole in your backyard vs in a mountainside and you'll get the difference between stone and earth. Thinking of them similarly is understandable since to us it's all unseen and beneath our feet, but there is a difference between rocks and soil. Sand is too specific and desert isn't an element anyway. Something Rollout said in his build video for Pohatu though is that the Stone characters seem to have a better connection with animals in G2, so just as a character trait that could be something cool that could distinguish them.

Saying all that though, if anything Stone is the straightforward element and Earth is the vague one.

think of it less like stone and earth and think of it more like rock and soil: one is hardy, dry and durable, the other soft, moist, and fertile.
Pohatu is like the interplay between tahu (fire, dryness) and onua (earth, minerals), a little fierce but a little wise.
As an aside, it should be noted that the elements of fire and earth are more commonly identified as "the strong ones", so it should not surprise that toa based on their interplay would be the physically strongest at base, though if I recall pohatu is no longer the strongest at base of the toa anymore, so that logic may in fact no longer apply.

Replace the upper leg bones with some trans light blue ones and replace his grey arm bone with trans light blue. Replace his mask with the gold 2015 one and give him a blue eyestalk.

Rather than making him more solid, make him look as crystalline as possible save for around the mask/torso area, as if Ekimu is being projected as energy from the mask

I always saw it as some sort of extra "breathing apparatus" until I learned that her mask power was water-breathing.
Then I saw it as an extra piece thrown in to give Wairuha neck articulation

Even in Pokemon, the two elements are basically the same. Rock types use ground attacks and vice versa. Both are weak to water and grass and both are effective against fire. I like the explanation though. Does it also work for the Wairuha trio? I'm guessing that Gali is between Kopaka and Lewa.

I'm not certain, it's hard to examine the interplay exclusively in any one of the kaitas, seeing Pohatu as the interplay between his kaita compatriots was kinda unintentional. As far as I can tell, each of the toa can be explored as the interplay between two of the others, taking their qualities to make something distinct from them, as Pohatu makes hard stone from heat and soil, and perhaps survivalism as some sort of interaction between earth's wisdom and fire's hot temper. Curiously enough, the interplay of personalities is actually more accurate in G2 than in G1, where onua was far more headstrong as opposed to his current musclesage self. If I had to ballpark it, I'd say Gali is the interplay between either fire or wind with ice, yeah.

Umarak's hands are so massive you have to sacrifice some articulation to keep them somewhat posable, with second limb the friction would give up and you'd just have Umarak the floppy arms guy.

Nope, not rare at all, unless you want them with the box, instructions and a specific type of Kraata. I think Lehrak is one of the less common Rahkhsi though. My only reasoning is that I don't have enough Lehrak parts to build more than one, but three complete Vohrak and parts for more.
