>>5515177I have a G1 shelf in my collection whose goal is to have the best representation of as many characters as possible. Best articulation, as close to in-scale as possible (nothing will ever be perfect in that regard, but for example a Legends Wheelie is preferable to a Deluxe one), and ideally made by Hasbro so that I can keep track of the collection years from now and not have to memorize third party company names, especially if a figure breaks or loses a weapon and I need to replace something on the secondary market.
So I order the priority like so:
1. Masterpiece when possible
2. CHUG when MP isn't available
3. Third party when neither 1 nor 2 offer a good option
For some examples:
I own the 2006 CHUG Optimus Prime, but he's in storage. MP-10 is my Optimus.
I could get a hold of MP-05 Megatron, but I think he looks like crap, so X-Transbots Apolyon is my Megatron.
I also plan to get Unite Warriors Devastator since really none of the third party Devastators stand out to me and I don't think we'll ever get an MP Devastator.
I plan on grabbing the Titans Returns Mindwipe because I don't love that character enough to get a third party figure, and I don't think we'll ever see a Masterpiece of him.
I skipped the recent Leader Class Ultra Magnus since I'm planning on getting the MP one.
But that's just how I do it.
tl;dr most MPs are a safe bet
