The quality probably varies, though. I know some Chinese companies have done SSJ3 Goku heads, and Base Vegeta heads before, and sold them on their own.

To be fair, the length of time between the first few releases in this line wasn't a good indication of this series having longevity. Goku, Gohan(Cell Saga) and Piccolo were the only three figures for a couple of years before we got anything new. Couple that with the slow releases of the Web Exclusives made available for US customers, no one really knew what was going to happen with this line.

You can't pretend that you knew they were going to make newer and better figures all along. This series was essentially brought back from the dead.

Reminder that Bluefin and/or Bandai outright told us that there was a new Vegeta mold coming out this year at the last NYCC.

Now, I am disappointed that the new mold is just armor Vegeta instead of Buu saga Vegeta/SSJ3 from TN, I do admit it is a bit of a questionable choice to go with this right after PC Vegeta, but we were given warning about this.

I'm still gonna get PC SSJ3 Goku and Perfect Cell when they get announced anyway.

That's an unfortunately situation I suppose, but some people are balls-deep into this line. People are willing to pay like, $1200 for that SDCC exclusive SSJ Goku, when you can buy the standard one for about $30.

There are just many different mentalities with these figures. Some people want all of them, regardless of how outdated they are. Some people just want one of each figure, etc.

Honestly I think the mentality of "I only want the best version of this character" is kind of dumb, because you're just chasing around figures that may or may not ever exist. Not to mention that there is a good chance that someday a better version will come out no matter what line or what character.

I think the popularity divide is what's pushing all the demand in that there are certainly more people here importing these than say bugmen. Any casuals are buying up releases at B&N so it's become sort of a community pool between those that NEED the next release and scalpers.

Hell I bought 17, 18, and Krillin before the 1 year mark just in case they started to snowball in price and I doubt I'm the only one.

The problem is now I have figures from all different eras and none really match. I got Awakening Goku but no Frieza, Androids, Trunks, and SS Gohan but no Cell...Scouter Vegeta lonely in one corner, Beerus lonely in another, and about to pick up a lonely Trunks.

Blah, might just mix and match like a madman.

That's why I got Broly in spite of my apathy towards him, and why I hope for more movie villains. The movies did a good job of having a bunch of characters participate in fights with the iconic looks of a given arc. So even though I don't have Cell, I can have a bunch of character beat up on Broly. which almost works out better because not many characters actually fought against Perfect Cell.

You know at first I was pretty annoyed about the new vegeta thinking "why couldn't they have picked ANY other character to do this with besides the character that just came out.

But then I thought about it and realized I collect dragonball figures. I don't collect just one of a character and then never get another one of that character, I collect a lot of the same character.

I will admit they are being extremely jewy if they don't put in a base head. But over all im happy my favorite character is getting an updated figure I just simply wish it wasnt a character that had just had a figure released.

There was also an announcement of a new Vegeta coming before Perfect Color came out. If people were too dumb to put the pieces together they deserve it. Of course it was going to be on the new Trunks mold, it makes perfect sense. Trunks, Vegeta, Goku...they are clearly going through some of the older characters and giving them new improved sculpts both face and body.

A re-paint of Vegeta using a FOUR YEAR OLD mold clearly means this Vegeta should have been delayed for another four years!

The Perfect Color was a "second chance" for people who wanted the old mold, nothing more, nothing less. It shouldn't prevent new releases that aren't webshop exclusives from being released.

I don't know how long you've been in this hobby for but my experience with Bandai (across their different product lines) has always been this: if they can reuse a body mold from one character to another, they will.

It's not even a question of "if". As soon as I saw that new armored Trunks, I knew Vegeta was coming. There's just no way Bandai would let that opportunity pass without milking it in some way.

Yeah, as rotten as this release may seem now, PC Vegeta gave us a lifeline for a Vegeta release besides the Super one. Sure, a downing ~$50($65 in my case) on a release that just went outdated seems like a lot, but how many more people would've dropped around $200 on a 1st release Vegeta in between the time PC Vegeta got announced, and the reveal of this new one? Its almost a stop gap measure. By the time I can get the new Vegeta, it will have been nearly a year since I got the PC one. That's, what, 9 or so decent meals I could've bough in that year? One other figure? That's not a major loss. My display has a Vegeta for the next few months, and that's enough to justify it for me.

Yeah, but it also means more "cuts" in the figure. The crotch/ass and the chest are kinda bothering me. Somehow, I kinda like the old Vegeta's body armor; looks more iconic with the definition line marks.
