>>5680684I've known Mike since I was a wee lad, and honestly you calling him a fuccboi is the greatest thing I've read in a long time.
Well done, sir!
As for ROG. The original cut is a plodding movie that's really more about the response to Godzilla than necessarily being a thrill-a-minute return to form.
I honestly prefer the heavily edited American cut because Steve Martin, and the edits to the Russian motives (however wrong) appeal to my belief in only humanity's worst.
I'm sure the movie will get revisited and loved by a number of new people, but people like Mike confuse the fuck out of me. Are, Godzilla fans supposed to end with you, or me or whoever?
The Godzilla fandom is a weird, sickly beast, that is filled with far too many assholes who sit atop a pile of rocks pretending its a high horse judging anyone else below.
And yeah, kids are annoying at times (FINAL WARS IZ GREATEST EVER)...but people grow, dude. Even Mike, unfortunately he grew into a angry old hermit shouting about vinyl toys.
In fact (holy shit listen to me bitch) there's one thing he said on MZ years and years ago that stuck with me. He was talking about Bullmark toys and said (I'm paraphrasing of course) "Nobody collects these things because of the sculpts. It's because of the history."
That's it! That's the key to why people like this are awful in the fandom. It's just like the Shin-Goji pics that people kept hoarding. Or the backlast against Monster-Arts, NECA, or anything else. It's this weird hoarding of imagined prestige, quality, or knowledge that gets me.
The bullmark stuff especially. I only own like 4 original bullmarks, the rest are M-1 reissues. Why? BECAUSE HISTORY? FUCK NO, I LOVE THE SCULPTS! It's the same reason I drooled over pics of Marmit Vinyl Paradise pics in the late 90s. I just thought they looked cool, and they're nice big chunky figures.
Okay, alright. Rant ending, but still, thanks for that lol.
