He's disappeared so that he can spook more people when he finally pops out.

I've some fixes in the works for this guy to make him taller and fill his chest cavity out a bit, but he's still charming. Being a manlet titan with giant claws he sorta' reminds me of Wolverine.

Can you really blame anyone? The early 2000's were so innocent compared to the shitstorm that is the modern day, although that's probably because we were all kids back then and didn't have to worry about adult problems.

Pic related, I don't know a single kid whose balls weren't blown off by something as simple as a basic HTML webpage. Hell, most of the adults probably felt the same way as well.

It's mostly just nostalgia and being introducedto something new.

The sets themselves were really primitive (albeit they did look cool), and the story was really mediocre compared to other fictional franchises.

It isn't done yet. While it can basically be done with about 12 pieces, one of them happens to be the Trans-light green crystal shell which only comes with Umarak the Destroyer, so I need to swing by the Lego Shop and buy another one.

My headcanon and hypotheses intermingle a bunch, but:

if you didn't notice, the traps were themselves actually small creatures, The beasts are what became of umarak's traps when he put on the mask of control, crowing into monsters just like him.

>This setting isn't actually a part of the same timeline as G1, but either will interact or has already interacted with G1 through the multiverse shenanigans that were going on at the end of the G1 storyline, perhaps resulting in the mask of time being carried over and the language older than Ekimu, and perhaps the main six toa, given how beefy they are compared to their G1 incarnations.

yeah. I would have prefered a solid gold piece there, but...this is the best I could get with what I have. I'm considering some changes here and there, but mostly in shell attachments. especially the chestplate.

You could use Onua's Crystal piece on the lower legs and shoulders. the ones that go from Gold to Clear. I would definately change that Torso shell, but given that your only other green option is the Ribcage or the Shapeways shell, that might not be in your best interests.

Maybe add more Ikir Wings to the back to make a sort of cape? the set NEEDS more Clear Green.

Why are his arm bones different colours? If you couldn't get a trans light blue version of the hinged bone, make the bone on the other arm grey as well. In fact, make them both black to match the leg bones. Ekimu could have been a great set, but they fucked up the colours once again. I prefer the gold mask on him though.

Winter 2015 isn't that bad. Gali and Lewa's masks are a bit iffy, but they're not awful. The only masks that are worse than the Beast ones are the Inika ones and the 2009 ones. I would add the Hordika heads to that, but they're supposed to be awful.

I suggest you start by mimicking DrscorpionX like I did. Then deviate away a little. The key points for me is just making at least one or two connections to make it solid in alt mode.

Are the rest of the 2016 sets worth getting. I got Tahu, Gali and their respective creatures all the way back in December and liked them a lot but never picked up the rest. The summer sets don't look that good and with the rumors of cancellation i'm unsure whether I want to invest in Gen 2 anymore or not.

Modified Umarak when I first got him, base set was nice but I wanted to make him a bit more intimidating. I have been working on some other creations but modifying sets are so fun and it's nice to look at others work to get inspired, so, I geuss post your bionicle mods of g2 if you've made any.

Yes he's not the best design wise but it gets job done of depicting a monstrous mutation of umarak, plus he's the only set from g2 that is this size. Yeah, I'm really satisfied with it as is. Only really doing this mod because of concerns with structural stability (only 2 pins keeping the entire assembly up, which makes it noticably bend when posing the head).

The guy's a complete ass and he might be a little autistic. I was in a chat with him a long time ago (it was the unofficial BZPC xat chat. I think I still have a link)
He was a mod one time and just went crazy because people were insulting him or something and he just started banning everyone for no reason.

The sword seems to be based off Sidoraks sliding blade which just makes it even cooler. If I could make a suggestion though - maybe work around Jet's face on the shoulder? Slizer heads look cool as armor but seeing a face on the shoulder is a little distracting. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination - maybe he killed Jet and wears his face as a trophy - but it does catch the eye.

I really the downfall of the line doesn't interfere with Makuta's design too much. I got a fear he'll just have ribcages slapped on here and there like UTD.
But it's not that bad. HF did get a reasonable amount of molds for it's last year.

Turns out I posted this in the wrong thread. Oh well.

I've recently gotten back into Bionicle and one thing I've considering MOC-ing lately is a Makuta figure. While I am certain he will receive a figure down the line, it probably won't be of his small, Matoran-esque body. What I'd want is to build myself a display of Ekimu and Makuta in their mask-making days. Currently I got Makuta's mask via my Umarak set.

I'm now weighting two options:
Option A) Ekimu and Makuta are built in Matoran/Protector size. That would mean buying the Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder set. The upside is that Makuta will be small and easy to build by buying pieces online. Under this option I'd consider using a Protector of Earth as a starting point. I've seen Protectors and the Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder still available in some shops.

Option B) Buy the new Ekimu and make them both Toa-sized. A bit less accurate to the design we've seen on Makuta, however and requiring me to build a bigger Makuta (and thus requiring more pieces). Ekimu would also require me to get a solid gold Mask of Creation via bricklink as to make him match his brother. Alternatively perhaps it is possible to dissasemble Toa-sized Ekimu and use maybe most of his pieces to rebuild myself a Protector-sized Ekimu.

So, any ideas? Any input? Its not exactly a hard project by any stretch since that Makuta design is mostly a color swap of his brother.

If you want it to look good? Yes. It's pretty tricky.

That said, the gatling piece on the hammer doesn't come in trans-purple either. I've seen pictures where some people substitute everything that doesn't come in the purple yet with black as well, and it doesn't look too bad.

Sorry for double post but I have checked and the smaller pieces ARE available in trans orange...some of which even coming with the Skull Grinder, as a matter of fact. So it seems like it would be a good place to start but I can't help but hesitate if reddish-orange isn't too far off from pink. That said it seems like it wouldn't be an ugly color scheme.

You can use Brickset and Bricklink to find which sets have what pieces, with the latter allowing you to buy the parts off of various sellers.

I'll be generous and tell you that 70207 Chi Cragger (fire and ice wave) (he has 2), 70208 Chi Panthar, and finally Skull Grinder vs Mask Maker are the only sets that have that piece.

Gotta say, when the line does end, be it next year or in a few years or whenever, I do fear that discussion will just roll back into G1's world / lore, as much as G2 has its fair share of worldbuilding and lore, the multitude of races, more consistent ruleset, and overall edgy atmosphere of G1 seem to leave more room for discussion and more incentive for fanfiction writers and what have you. I have to wonder if everyone will just forget about these 3 (or more who knows) years once all is said and done.

For me its like, assuming the 3 year plan is what it is and they have no reason to extend the line beyond that, G2 will seem like, from a story standpoint, "The Hobbit" to G1's "Lord of the Rings" (the orders are kinda backwards in this analogy but whatever), one is smaller, more straightforward, and a bit more self-contained, while the other is massive in scope and more densely packed with specific details.

If this Vahi connection theory thing has any sort of merit, and G2 does get linked back to G1 in some way, than that may keep it memorable in the overall "Bionicle" experience, but when you follow up a huge story set in a ridiculously massive world with a much smaller scenario, I just dont think it can ever hope to have the same impact.

Not trying to be negative / naysayer, but this has always been something that has bothered me since the reboot was announced.

Who knows? I can't help but feel the next 'big' Bionicle generation is definitely not this one. We can expect at least one more gen down the line, maybe in 5-6 years and if that one has more serious and in-depth world building I can't scratch the feeling that G2 will be see as a transition kind of line, much like how the era between Transformers G1 and Beast Wars is a fuzzy one for Transformers and things had yet to take on the form we see today both for toy design and story.

If you ask my purely personal opinion, the next 'big' Bionicle line will have to be one with a decent (or even good, maybe? We can hope!) cartoon which come out right off the start of the line. The kind of thing the internet like to talk about...before it get utterly swarmed by ultra autistic and weird neckbeard.

That said, G2 has grown on me in both style and esthetics, I just wish it had stuff like the old comics to really bring it to life. The cartoon is a bit meh and come a little too late into the line.

Is it? Haven't checked those. But from what I have seen of the story of G2 is that they seemed to be harkening back to the first years of G1 with the more mystical tone rather than the technological and scifi-esque style the serie had taken since Metru Nui.

Novel 2 is a side story of the Protectors exploring some tunnels and finishing off Lord of Skull Spiders while also discussing lore and meeting with a female archeologist from the jungle region.

Graphic Novel 2 is a prequel that basically covers the events that led to Makuta making the mask of Ultimate power, it has a lot of worldbuilding like family structure, food, animals, and a detailed explanation of how masks works, it also contains an image of the G2 upper half mask of time.

IMO the summer villains seem to sell like shit. I've noticed both winter waves that the sets sell very well, even selling out and needing restocks. The summer villain sets sit forever though.
Like Lego probably know that the villain sets don't sell well so they're a little lazy and have a tight budget for them, but that's only going to make it worse. If the summer sets keep sucking not only will they keep losing sales, but it'll cause a lack of interest in the line as a whole. Having shitty summer sets is just going to dig themselves deeper into a hole.

Lego, however, probably don't wish to retire CCBS, as it would result in the retiring of so many useful pieces at once (bar their occasional use in System sets). I also imagine that they don't want to go back to Hero Factory, as that was already a transitional phase.

I think the absolute failure of Chima constraction means they won't try something like Nexo Knights ultrabuilds.

i really think there just isn't enough interest in ccbs/buildable action figures

i don't really see a way it could ever get better.
I'm kind of stumped with what lego could even do.

marketing the same thing with a new aesthetic and new story etc. doesn't really work that well when the final product is the same.

i honestly think it's all on a permanent decline and has been since bionicle peaked

but that doesn't mean we can't still enjoy it while it's here.

it's kind of lame even for kids though when bionicles have this violent, mysterious and epic appearance and then they're restricted with cheesy dialogue, no real violence and the same cookie cutter quest for X storyline over and over. They are afraid of real conflict.

kids aren't stupid. they can recognize when something isn't quite right or good.
The current nexo knights show works well because minifigures are a lot more cartoony and can be silly. Plus it's targeted towards younger kids.

Kids now are exposed to much more extreme and violent shit than they used to be. I honestly think being more mature is the only hope for a line like bionicle. It would help sales with kids. They don't need to go overboard and make it edgy. They just can't do things like avoid physical conflict meanwhile the characters are fucking covered in armor and weapons. If armor and weapon wielding robots attract you to something, you're going to want to see it in action. Otherwise what's the point?

A show that's a bit more serious and has good writing could help a theme like bionicle loads.

How can the bionicle story be taken seriously?

In the early days it worked because the weapons were also tools that they would use while handling the natural elements on their journey. The story was more about the journey and having to fight off enemies while on it. The Toa had a mission that kept getting interrupted by Makuta, which caused conflict.

Later on the story became more violent to keep up with consumer demand but a lot of classic fans didn't like it.
There needs to be a good medium.

The story is essentially the opposite now, being a fight, and needing the masks or creatures or X to help them fight.
The thing is that there isn't much of a fight.

Pick one. As for the heads, I guess they'd work until the sockets cracked, though they would stick out quite far to the front. You'd be better off building a custom torso that you could attach a Metru head to. Take the Av-Matoran masks, weapons and jetpacks and melt the rest down to repair parts with.
