>>5836480So what was the plan for this post here, deceptively making Mothra VS. Godzilla sound as underwhelming as possible so the original version sounds better? Are you false flagging as non-fan or something?
Cause no real, self-respecting Tokusatsu fan would say some shit like that, they're both great films from the golden era, but Mothra VS Godzilla is also a masterpiece of the Tokusatsu genre, constructing wonderfully aged setpieces and arguably the best Godzilla suit/design in existence, while thematically touching on environmental exploitation and social empathy between men. The original film was a filmed reaction to the events beforehand, where as Mothra VS. Godzilla is an observation of the social discourse that followed a decade after. Even the King Kong VS. Godzilla, the film before it, which is a genuine goofy parody, was touching on the heavy commercialism of society in a post-WW2 world.
It's most certainly more than a "goofy monster battle" starring "two logs of shit," the SFX was awesome, the score is apart of Ifukube's finest, Haruo Nakajima's suitmation performance was at his best, the acting was top notch with many difference themes and character angles at play.
I even said in my post that if not better, it's at least capable of challenging the original, though that second sentence sounds like you're obviously fishing for (You)s anyway.
