>>5911978>>5910304I would say its 100% controversy/lawsuits they're afraid of. Compare SS Harley to the most recent comic villain they've made, 2013's retro Catwoman. In Suicide Squad, there's no question, those are bad guys. They're being used to fight crime yeah, but they've done some fucked shit and you can tell. But for whatever reason every non-comic-reading woman out there puts Catwoman in the hero category. She's elegant, sleek, her suit may be form fitting but its fully covering, and even when she is a bad guy her crimes are largely jewel theft, cat themed artifacts and such and often waved off by her saying she's donating some of it to animal charities. Plus she's (usually) banging Batman, so how bad could she really be? Harley though, she's a mess. Skank pants, tattered shirt, prison tats, messy makeup, smashes heads with a baseball bat, has a relationship with a psychopath.
Plus... ok. Pretend you're a soccer mom, knowing jack shit about comics/movies that aren't Disney or romcoms. You feel this pressure to keep your little princess totally innocent and shield her from all the worlds wrongs. You take her to the toy store to pick out a new Barbie. As you walk down the aisle you pass the collector area (which idk about your local but at my TRU the BvS dolls are at like 4 year olds eye level) and your little girl grabs a brightly colored box and says she wants it. But what you see is a clown slut with prison tats, trashy clothes, a weapon, and the word "SUICIDE" on the box in neon lettering. Youd be posting that shit all over Facebook and making petitions before the TRU employees can even process your insane demonic choir of demands for a manager.
