Remember it's the key that's magical, not the cupboard.

So you could legit make anything real if you had something big enough to contain it.

Also if you put someone inside with a thing and turn the key, it becomes that thing where it came from with full consciousness and sight.

In the second book the best friend character crawled into a big chest with a toy teepee. He became the teepee with 360 degree line of sight in the indian's home village.
