This is really a stupid question, because they all use the same services, and those services have the same shipping rates for everybody. It all comes down to boxes and packing material. And there's no guarantee that the shops will use the same stuff every time. Amiami may cost 12.50 one time, and 13.75 for the same item next time because they used a larger box.

If you're trying to compare postage differences (which is really only a mark/yen/buck/pound/etc or three difference) then maybe you shouldn't be spending money on a hobby.

This idea that you have to find the cheapest everything is mostly an American thing where we are raised to the get best deal possible or we are a sucker otherwise.
I agree that you should focus more on things like packaging and speed but the thought you spent an extra $15 you could have saved triggers most Americans

Christ. Who gives a shit what method you use? Why are they upset because somebody can pay for the better shipping method? Are they that insecure? I use EMS because I can afford it. I don't need to shave off a few bucks so I can buy more stuff. I buy more stuff (if I want it) because I plan ahead for it.

And they're the ones who complain the most and the loudest when it's been 2 weeks and their stuff hasn't shown up yet.

Eh. I'd say most of the people I know are split 50/50. I don't really give a shit about saving a few pennies here and there, but I suspect that's a family trait, since my father and siblings are the same way. I have some friends who don't care about money, but I also have a few that are total Jews (not literally) and will let a price difference of a dollar decide whether or not they buy something, and will hold you accountable for monetary favors, right down to the penny.

I used SAL once and the fucking wait was so painful it hurt. Never again. Of course, the next thing I ordered EMS ended up getting held at customs for a fucking month for some reason. Ever since then, it's been pretty great.

My general rule is that if I'm buying a toy that I don't feel strongly enough about to want it ASAP, then I probably shouldn't buy it.

Americans are a pretty varied bunch. I think this meme of attributing any single idiosyncrasy to the entire American culture is pretty ignorant. Except for clapping. Holy shit, do I love clapping.

Additionally, the notion of saving a few bucks so you can feel superior is probably mostly a 4chan thing, where people will take any excuse to act like they are somehow better than some other person they don't even know.

Saving money is always a good thing but there is a scope of within reason. If saving $5 on a $45 costing play toy effects you that much, self reflect if you even need the toy in the first place
Also you are getting off point. One anon posted he thinks it's Americana to be this obsessed with tiny details in savings (like op's list) not that wanting to save in general is bad.
