Takara releases tend to sell out pretty fast, and the sites that still have them up either sell them for way more (lol 94 bucks for Ginrai), are almost identical to their Hasbro counterparts, or end up getting 1-2 due to cancelled pre-orders (which end up sold out pretty fast).

Takara versions are only imported and sold by international sellers in limited quantities. It's just how retail works in asian markets: They tend to only order enough wholesale stock to meet preorders and a reasonable amount of store stock and nothing more.

Most people look at the takara versions and just kind of go "eh I'm happy with the hasbro version", but once in a while some real bombshell, objectively superior Takara versions like Computron and Blurr come out, people go nuts for them and demand WAY exceeds supply.

Generations Rattrap is fun as hell.

Both forms look great but I love how much poseability his beast form has it really has a lot of personality.

I always expecting his rat form to be a brick like Rhinox' rhino form, god damn am I glad I'm wrong.

I just need to clean up his teeth a little bit. there's bits of flashing on it and the paint apps are less than stellar to say the least.

See those areas circled? You have to shave down on the hinge to prevent the pieces from snapping. Just shave it until it goes down flush, instead of with pressure.

You can't do it if he's in robot mode, you have to transform the leg a bit to shave it from behind.

Not him but I've done this as well and if you have a razor thin enough to squeeze in between there, it's also worth shaving a tiny bit off the sides as shown here.

They won't cause breakage but I've found that on my rattrap they were way tighter than they need to be and loosening them up just a little bit makes trasforming him a ton easier.

The one thing that's a shame about Rattrap is that the light piping in his robot mode is pretty bad. The plastic on his head is too opaque and his red eyes are painted on with translucent paint, not much light actually gets through

Yeah. Pretty much the entire back of his head is light piping.

If you disassemble his head and remove the light piping I think there's just enough room in there to fit an LED and a button cell so I think an light up eye mod for him would definitely be possible.

Actually, the head is just screwed together and the light piping just slots in and out of place

The only hard part of doing that would be finding a yellow LED that fits through his eye hole, and from what I can tell people have done various LED eye mods on him before

The official is jet gets the wide sword, car gets the other, and drill gets the ax. But the swords don't fit unless They're given to the other. Ax is loose no matter who. And the combined weapon has the swords reversed from the official version too. I added some paint onto my jet and it looks a bit better though I need to touch it up once it dries. You can also fold the eagle head out on jets chest. The set is well worth $15. The combined mode is even bigger than a leader tf.

I like'em. However, a few known issues.

One is loose ball joints (anywhere). Mine had the shoulder ball joints somewhat loose, futureshine fixed it up.

Two was him tabbing together not so tightly in car mode. Mine didn't have this problem, he tabs together and holds solidly.

If you end up liking them, then see about maybe getting the upgrade for Menasor. If not, maybe CW isn't for you and you should just sell them.

I love my Menasor, but then again, I don't mind his faults. I probably should futureshine the feet ball joints though. He's so fucking topheavy due to his design and no amount of kits can fix that.

I'm thinking if we get an Abominus, we'll also get Predaking or Piranacon. Alpha Trion was already supposed to be a CW mold (so Razorclaw retool potentially) and the limbs will probably be heavily retooled versions of each other. Like all the quadroped beast modes share like, two moulds each. Cutthroat and Divebomb share a mold and end up as straight repaints with the UW version being a retool. Rippersnapper and Blot are retools. Calling it now.

Well that is why I usually wait for toyshows to get stuff because if I want the Takara for the most part I could still get it for retail and I could physically examine the product to the best of my abilities in person. If I just want the product, I don't mind pre-ordering it and just rolling the dice and see if they come perfect, acceptable, or something I will have to ship back condition. Thank goodness I haven't had a bad quality that I actually had to ship the toy back.

It seems like some of the Titan master molds are just friction joints. I know the Horribull/Skytread mold is, as my Horribull keeps getting his legs stuck in the tank. But then the infinitus that came with sentinel prime has his thighs backwards/upside down, and he's pinned in on both points.

Whether it's by design or it's a QC issue, I'd have to have another look when I get home. It's the first time I've seen the point raised, but now it's mentioned it does seem pretty odd to me and I know some of mine are the same.

The toys themselves were a repurposed Japanese line but the show, comic, book and characters were all US created
The comic book was before the TV show and the books I think we're as well
It's rooted as a US property and has reflected so even today where Takara more or less just recyles whatever Hasbro developed (short of the MP line)

I literally don't understand what you want. No one is reading the fiction because it's Shakespearean in quality. It's just an interesting take on a franchise we all knew about.

Plus, the TOYS are pretty cool for the most part (IMO). I'm especially a fan of the color schemes and/or alt modes for the SG characters. And last I checked, this entire "debate" started with someone saying the TOY looked good.

Personally, I've ALWAYS been a fan of alternate dimensions and "what-if" stories. It's just something that's always interested me. You can do that to any franchise (TMNT, Power Rangers, etc) and make the villians into good guys and the bad guys into heroes and I'll be fine with it. I like the characterizations of MOST of the characters in Shattered Glass. Of course there are some cliche'd, boring, and predictable characters, but you can say that about characters from the Shattered Glass AND the original universe. You can't hit a home run every time.

So I'll just agree to disagree with you. I still haven't gotten a legitimate answer for WHY you don't like the SG universe aside from saying it's edgy and poorly executed. I mean, I'd like to know WHY you think it's poorly executed and what could have been done differently, but whatever. Like I said before, let's just agree to disagree.

I am really loving these Ariel Lemon upgrades for Galvatron.

Knocked off the stupid fucking cockpit that hangs off his back, then got the 3d printed GEEWUN helmet and sidearm cannon adaptor.

Well Beast Wars had it's fair share of "Buy this toy now" syndrome. I know that's what happened with Tigerhawk. The thing that helped Beast Wars was that it was CGI, so they literally couldn't keep including different characters into the show just for fucks sake (Like G1 did) because creating new character models was really time consuming and expensive. That's a big reason why Rhinox, Dinobot, Waspinator, Airazor, Tigatron and Blackarchnia didn't get Transmetal forms (though 2 of those eventually got TM2 forms).

As a result, the show had no choice but to fall back on its writing and character development...which turned out to be a great thing for the franchise.

The G1 cartoon was so shitty because of the animation budget (which was slim at best) and the fact that writers HAD to keep on adding new characters because of the toyline. Therefore, pretty much no one aside from Prime,Megatron, Bumblebee, Rodimus, Galvatron, the Dinobots, and the Constructicons got any type of character development. And even then, the character development was really thin.

So I just picked up Ru-....the red decepticon cassettebot. Is there a trick to transforming the arms? That double joint on the front really doesn't feel like it wants to flip around. It feels almost like the pins are too far apart and the corners don't have enough clearance to navigate.

From what I heard is that the main reason Apeface even came out as a Titan master is that after Hasbro got the rights to his name they just had to release something with that name slapped on or risked losing the license to it if somebody felt like getting the rights to it and already had a product available to be called "Apeface" I wish Maketoys was trolled enough and actually did that so they officially could have called their MP-Not Apeface-- Apeface and Hasbro wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

And roller is blue on the hasbro version and silver in the takara version

The eyes are also slightly better on the Hasbro version

Honestly the differences on him are so negligible that you can just pick either or for whatever stupid reason you can think of.
Like, I bought the Takara version of him because I like lining my walls with boxes and I think Takara MP boxes look nicer than Hasbro MP boxes.

I actually own a rook and I find him to be one of the best CW OC deluxes. I am quite indifferent about the media of the series especially 1~3 but yeah I'm more in tune to muh gee wun Japanese but still I love what they're doing with Six Shot, the main Headmasters guys, I respect why they're making the power masters headmasters too. Incorrect. The Hasbro version is simply cast in red plastic, while the Takara version is cast and then painted in red. It lends him a much higher-quality look, and a richer tone in him look like an MP instead of just a toy. Also, the joints on my Takara version were about a million times better. Spin all the bullshit you want about "THE SAME FACTORY" but my Hasbro Prime could barely hold a pose, his ankles were so weak.

Even so you're correct with mp-10 (well, in a shared opinion point of view since when I first came to /tfg/ this was the exact arguement I saw often), despite having better eyes and truck cab lights painted the loosened joints really hold him back.

Why this happens I don't know, but one thing is certain, you aren't safe with either company unless you just want more paint

This. Same factories, you're gonna get boned either way at some point. Just because you get a good copy, doesn't mean another will. All you can do is hope you get a good copy, and if you don't, that wherever you bought from has a top tier return policy.

FACT: Takara MP-10 is painted red, not just cast in red
FACT: Joints were tighter on my Takara version. Many others will attest to this, too.

I'm just trying to give someone the actual truth about MP Primes. Yes, the blue eyes and painted clearance lights are a one-up on the Takara version, but LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE about the Takara version is better.

It's reasonable for casual and less avid collections to only look at and be familiar with aesthetic differences because they'd only be familiar with one version of something.

This is entirely beside the point. It doesn't matter what "kind" of person would own both versions, why even bring it up? What matters is that if someone hasn't had both in hand, they shouldn't be eager to share opinions. And if they DO have both in hand, and fail to mention the Takara versions better joints and paint, then they are doing a disservice to the person who is asking. Which is why I brought it up.

Different anon but this is true, Same factory different ways of making the plastic. I was talking to guy who works with plastics and has been in the plastic business for over 10 years now and he told me that Takara and Hasbro uses two different kinds of plastic for the modern Transformers and this is why he misses the era when it was practically the same quality all across the board.

What Hasbro does nowadays to make it cheaper is that they use more of the re-grinded and recycled plastic that are left over from the sprues of their other products. This is fairly common in the industry and thus the ratio for the new pure plastic to the regrind is around 70 regrind to 30 pure. Takara on the other hand uses more of the newer plastic and less of the regrinds that's why you will feel a noticeable difference in the plastic feel and quality and what makes them a bit more expensive.

At the end of though it is the same people making it so QC is still going to be dodgy. The only thing you can really attest for the most part is the plastic quality.

It was a fun lesson from him cause he actually was showing us both Hasbro and Takara toys to us while explaining it.

Still this won't change my feelings for the toys and will still buy what I like. It was just a good knowledge to know.

Lately I've been seeing multiple copies of the same toy having stress marks in the exact same location, right out of the package. So I honestly think there's something wrong with the machinery they use. Clumsy factory workers probably won't mess up all the toys in the exact same location every time.

The issue is also it being a mass produced item so you know if they're making a couple thousands of each, I would think it is realistically that the person checking the QC would miss stuff here and there since they do work on quotas.

I bought this for my son to play with...and he LOVES IT!
Very durable and my 8 year old son is having no difficulties manipulating the Transformer.
Transforms nicely into all kinds of cool stuff. Even comes totally apart for even more cool stuff!!!
We are not collectors...but the box it came in is collector quality for sure with clear panel viewing area and so forth.
Well worth the $300.00 price tag....

Because the cockpit piece is a piece of shit addition that only creates a clusterfuck "third mode" I'll never use anyways, and it impedes the poseability of the artillery mode. And if I ever want I can just put the helmet in his chest cavity and flip out the stock helmet for a more IDW-ish look.
