If Bandai is smart enough, they'd use this as an opportunity to relaunch Sentai figuarts, with a focus on Power rangers. Specifically the more popular rangers and teams, like In Space, RPM, and the like.

this is true, apparently they went totally crazy over it and the higher ups/bosses at Toho Co. were saying in interviews they loved it and were gushing all over it. That is why they brought their version of Godzilla out of retirement and made the new Shin Godzilla (aka Godzilla Resurgence) because the 2014 American Godzilla movie was considered a huge sucess

It's going to be like the Michael Bay TMNT movies. Lots of eye candy VFX but none of the soul of what made Power Rangers popular in the first place. Kids aren't going to like it, and fans of the original are going to hate it. But it will still make enough money to garner a sequel. I'm still going to see it in hopes that the Megazord battle will be similar to Pacific Rim. I'd be pissed if it only last a couple minutes at the end of the movie.

That's the main problem, really. They wanted to keep the classic helmet, but the spandex suit was apparently too silly. So it looks like if Tony Stark designed an organic Guyver suit and put a Power Ranger helmet on it.

There are plenty of ways you could design a suit without the need for a giant glowing chest piece like Iron Man.

I feel the original movie did a better job at tackling that issue. All you really need is a form of padded/armored suit without resorting to the Tony Stark school of design.

Bascially what I said, producers (the one providing the money to me) Bascially don't want anything too similar to the originals show but don't want it to be too extreme.

Keyword thrown around a lot was "safe" and had us refer heavily to iron man or transformers

As a result a lot of the other designs were just as generic as you'll see on zbrush forums

This happens with nearly ever adaptation film, and I don't get it. Why make a film based on something, only to not want it to resemble that thing?

Some movie producers have a large ego so as a result a lot of them wish to do something a certain way so they can brag how it's "their" thing.

it's often "safer" to have something look like another propriety character and get that money back than be your own unique thing and lose money.

Brand recognition. They want people to say "Hey, I remember that thing from when I was a kid!" and go watch it. It doesn't matter what the person actually sees on screen once they get there. They already paid for the ticket. You would think people would understand after so many shitty remakes and sequels, but they just keep falling for it.

That's the point, though. The people in the target audience for this shit would never just go back and watch Power Rangers. The name triggers their nostalgia, then they see that the designs have been updated to look cool and edgy and modern. So they can watch the new one without feeling silly or childish.

The target audience for this know what the MMPRs looks like. They know that the black ranger was black and the yellow ranger was asian. They know that Rita was an asian with cone tits. When you change everything people know why should they care just because the title is the same? The 95 movie suits were upgraded while still being recognizable. These are uninspired derivative trash.

I have to wonder how they plan to get a target audience. The movie is nostalgia fanwank but kids who are currently watching PR on tv don't get the hype as it's a different team and it's making references to things they don't understand.

At least with the original movie, they got the team and characters from the tv series so seeing them on screen was neat. Even TMNT 2 had trouble at the box office, I don't think this is going to be a huge hit.

That's actually got me a tiny bit excited.

"Powers outside of suits" was a huge Sentai thing that never quite transitioned into PR, especially in Zyuranger, the Sentai show the original PR is based on. Seeing them bring it back is a nifty little nod.
